Spiced Shrimp & Grits

We’ve been here a few times for dinner and decided to try their Sunday brunch. Food was delicious as usual and service to match. Coffee was good as well which is always a good sign. We will definitely be back to try some more of their brunch menu items.
The indoor tables were nicely spaced, hostess was friendly and efficient, servers were attentive but not intrusive. Food was great!
We always enjoy our meals at barrel & Crow and are very happy their business has picked up so nicely after the difficult times of the pandemic!
Food was excellent. I had the lamb and homemade fettuccini. Great meal
Great neighborhood spot with comfortable surroundings, friendly and attentive staff, a diverse menu, and wonderful food all at a great value. If you’re able to make it for Happy Hour the value is even better.
This is our “go to” spot for dinner even amongst so many good restaurants in Bethesda.
Great vibe for a Sunday Brunch , Shrimp/Grits was amazing - poached egg on top. Complimentary Sweet Beignets, Yum! Chicken/ waffles tender , nice portion. Great Bourbon and Local Beer Selection . Lemon Poppyseed!!!
Awesome service and delicious food!
It was my hubby’s 50 th bday and when I made the resize I wrote that it was a celebration. No one mentioned it. In fact the hostess was bizarre and did not make any eye contact with us. The food was good but their beer list is kinda meh.
Both the food and drink menus are diverse and tasty.
Great time with some friends. A little pricey but still very enjoyable.
Lovely evening , Ibrahim was our waiter- excellent service. Rockfish, Pork Chop and Lamb Bolognese were delicious. Great Bourbon Selection , local beers. Finished off with some Apple Spice cake . The windows were open so you felt ok sitting inside , patio was full.
Comfort food wanted on this cool night - Lamb Bolognese with house made elegant pasta Duck Breast , crispy skin .. the best I’ve ever had . Duck fat fries you gotta finish till the end . Our waiter Carlos was really knowledgeable but not in our face the whole night. We will be back .
Great service and great food.
Birthday celebration for my daughter and niece. The service was amazing as was the food. I will definitely be back again.
The pancakes were cold and gummy, the bottomless mimosas were slow to the table, the eggs didn’t taste fresh. The hostess was too enthusiastic about telling patrons no mask required because the mask mandate had been lifted that day in the county. Will never revisit
Food was average, service was great, hamburger was dry, great pumpkin ginger soup and rockfish. My family said it wasn’t bad…it was okay.
Really. Go to this restaurant and if you go to this restaurant, ask for Johannes to be your waiter. We've never had a better waiter anywhere IN THE WORLD. He should teach waiters how to be waiters - knowledgeable, instructive, knew when to interrupt and leave us alone, made great suggestions, anticipated, friendly. I would hire this guy for a job in a minute if he asked me! Honestly, I've already told two people about the restaurant just because of him.
And the food was excellent. Top notch. All four of us loved our meals (carrot/ginger soup, beet salad, rockfish, ravioli, vegetarian platter that wasn't even on the menu). Great night.
Yes I will recommend Barrel & crow. The food is delicious. I really liked their crab beignets.
The restaurant was comfortable, plainer than I expected. No tablecloths. Most of the food was top notch. I was disappointed with the crab beignets because there was only a tiny bit of crab in them, The other appetizers were good from what I heard. Entrées were excellent, I had the pork chop with stoneground grits. The BEST grits I’ve ever had! The pork chop was huge, I couldn’t even finish half of it. Very tasty, Also had chicken and waffles, rockfish entrée, and soup of the day. Everyone said it was all wonderful. Service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing. They have such a diverse menu, I will go back. Probably get the shrimp and grits next time!
Delicious food, great menu, tasty drinks and excellent service! Everything we ate was delicious and came out quickly. Quiet inside but not surprising for a Sunday evening. Would definitely return for lunch and again for dinner for a special occasion!
Love this little Bethesda jewel! With a patio out front, bar seating and traditional restaurant seating, there is something for everyone. The menu is eclectic southern -- my friend got the lamb Bolognese, while I couldn't decide between the breakfast burrito or my typical go-to -- shrimp and grits. Instead of traditional bread as an appetizer, this special spot serves hot beignets with cream. Drinks are terrific. The staff is friendly and attentive -- It's just a perfect spot.
The food is always delicious! They Never disappoints. The fried green tomatoes are always ordered when go there with the crab beignets
Great outdoor dinner. Excellent food and service.
Best meal I've had in a long time.
Surviving Covid is one thing-
Providing such a great experience and meal was absolutely amazing. The food was excellent and our server was perfect.
Ok - so we made a reservation; got there early, had a drink at the bar, got seated, ad waited, and waited, and waited - 20 minutes - not even an offer of water. We got up and left. (walked a few blocks to Black's and had a great dinner).
We've eaten here before; food was good, service decent, but this time, far from it - it was like we took invisible pills.
The waiter actually stopped by the tables adjacent to us - offered dessert, etc. but didn't even look us -
Bethesda has too many places to eat to sit in a corner and wait.
Don't waste your time....unless you have a lot of time to waste.
We have eaten at this restaurant 3 or 4 times and it always impresses. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Montgomery county. Great menu, delicious food and good service.
Fantastic happy hour selections - the food and wine was really great!
First time dining and I will be back ! Service was some of the best I’ve had in a long time . The food was fresh and properly seasoned . Shout out to the owner as she handled a citation , she politely went over to a large group to ask the young girl to turn the volume lower on her movie she was watching on an phone . What ever happened to crayons and kids being involved with a dining experience. You handled it in a professional way . The place was the busiest in Bethesda as we walked over . Compliments!
Our first time at B lamb bolognese,; and rockfish were all superb.
I found the food too expensive for the quality provided. The Parisienne Gnocchi dish was unremarkable - a bit of cheese on top and nothing else to be remembered. The raviolis were dry and tasteless. The Rockfish was mostly dark meat and, although it was not fishy, it was not appetizing. The service was very good. In summary, did not find the food to be bad, only expensive for what I got. If I am going to pay $30 for a plate I rather go to another restaurant in the area where you get more value for your money
First time dining at Barrel & Crow and we really liked it! Late afternoon lunch/early dinner with our son on the patio and it was a great find! Nice atmosphere, delicious food and outstanding service. We will be back! Thank you!
Horrible experience. Physically sick from food and noise level unbearable. Other guests acting out of line, screaming and cussing ruined the atmosphere completely. Will not go back
Great service — host was super helpful. LOVED the duck special.
The beer list is local and has some really tasty options.
For appetizers, loved the ahí taquitos, crab binnets, and organic chicken wings.
Our patry had a great time at Barrel and Crow last evening. Table was great on outdoor patio.
We chose this restaurant based on the extensive beer list and dinner options. The restaurant offered outdoor seating options on their patio and on the street. We chose the patio as it was covered and not a thoroughfare with people walking around and through. Although we had one waiter, two other severs asked if we had been told the special foe the evening, but didn’t ask if we had ordered or anything else. Maybe pushing the special hard? The appetizers were delicious; entrees average. The blackened salmon lacked any blackened flavor and the dish overall needed seasoning. It also incorporated the same couli as the fried green tomato appetizer giving it a very similar flavor. Perhaps some differentiation? My husband was happy with the shrimp and grits, but not overwhelmed by the taste. I would say stick with beers and burgers here.
All the appetizers, main courses and drinks were top-notch. They did not rush us, even though we were seated outside and we appreciated that.
We have recommended Barrel & Crow already to numerous friends, including the couple we were with last night, and they had already visited once before as a result of our recommendation. They commented on how delicious everything was last night and said it was the same at their earlier visit.
Keep up the good work, as you have been, despite the trying circumstances.
Wonderful food and outstanding service. Love eating outside. Even the chairs are comfortable which is not usually the case with outdoor eating. Highly recommend.
The appetizers were very good, but our bottle of red wine was served warm. This shouldn't happen at a restaurant with this price point. One of the entrees was also overcooked.
I have had very good food at this restaurant before, so I hope this was just an off-night.
