Cafe Cariccio, the region's only authentic Tuscan restaurant, has been a favorite dining destination in Albany for 30 years. The Cafe was voted Best Restaurant in the Capital District by Metroland Magazine for 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, and many times previously. Jim Rua and Franco Rua are proprietors. Catering is available for small or large parties for pick up or for on premise events. Our menu is filled with our classics from our kitchen as well as the elaborate authentic Italian dishes that we serve at our Chef's Table.
Private party faciliteiten
The Cafe has a wonderful private dining rooms for private events. Our Chef's Table, located on the second floor above the main restauant, can hold parties of 10-17 and is an intimate open kitchen concept room where the chef cooks in front of your guests. The room also features a private entrance and private bathrooms just for this room. Our private room has wireless internet, screens and private staff. Our rooms regularly host business events and speaker presentations as well as family event, birthdays, anniversaries as well as couples dinners with friends.

After being seated in a very comfortable booth, I chose the salmon special and substituted pureed parsnips for the mashed potatoes. The entire dish was outstanding. The well-prepared salmon arrived medium rare as ordered, the parsnip puree was smooth and ever so slightly sweet and flavorful, and the brussel sprouts tasted like they were just harvested from the garden. I ordered a glass of Corvina, a tasty medium-bodied red with a luscious taste of fully ripe grapes and berries. For dessert, my friend and I split a limoncello spritz and a slice of limoncello cake. Both were perfect with just the right balance of sweetness and lemon flavor. I love the ambience of Cafe Capriccio because it reminds me of the Italian restaurants of my childhood (60 years ago!) with comfortable booths and acoustical tiled ceilings to mute the noise of a busy main dining room. The service was outstanding. This was a five star meal and I plan on returning soon.

I have never had a bad meal at Cafe Capriccio and last night was no exception! I absolutely love the Eggplant with Four Cheeses and always get that as my appetizer. One of these days I will have to try a different appetizer I suppose (nah). I got the Rapini & Sausage for my entree and was happy to bring home enough for dinner tonight too! We did not get dessert but I was tempted by several of the options. Once again an excellent meal!

The food was largely good. The service was a bit brisk/businesslike. The worst was a mouse coming out from the table next to us all through the second part of dinner. What is up with that? The Restaurant needs to take much better care to trap and rid themselves of vermin. I gather they have had health department concerns about vermin, but maybe not for a while. I’ll be letting them know, but the Restaurant needs to take action. It looks like a newborn mouse which meant their parent mouse was close by. It’s a serious concern for all diners and for the Restaurant it was an expensive meal and that was a unpleasant end.

Twice a year, I drive 2 hours to pick up my wife from the Montreal train after a family visit. The train arrives at 7 and we always look for a place to eat after her 8-hour journey. This year, she traveled on a Monday, when not many restaurants are open. I searched for an Italian restaurant and stumbled on this jewel of intimate dining. It is located in what used to be Albany’s Little Italy and appears to be one of the few survivors. It’s stayed on for over 40 years, and for good reason. The staff was attentive and welcoming. The appetizer we had-the eggplant - is a long-standing menu items and was far and away the best we’ve ever had, even in Italy or Boston’s North End. The main dining room was pretty full but amazingly quiet. Both of us really enjoyed the cod and chicken main dishes. Will most definitely return

The food and service were fantastic. The restaurant had an old school feel to it and wonderful aroma that welcomed you at the door. Do order the garlic bread. Probably the best I ever had.

This restaurant is fabulous from beginning to end. Our server was knowledgeable, gave wonderful recommendations and had perfect timing with courses. We had several apps to start- eggplant four cheese, sides of saffron risotto and broccoli rabe and wood roasted cauliflower. All were done to perfection and highly recommended to try! We also had the Pear Martini, the drink of the night (always a must) and the Papa Doble. For entrees we had the fish of the night (cod, perfectly broiled crust), Puttanseca and Salsiccia Picante. Every bite was delicious. For dessert, we squeezed in a blueberry cheesecake and a special (challah bread) with ice cream and blueberry compote! I can’t wait to come back to try the Chef Table upstairs. Cheers!
