   Hustle and bustle was great. French fries were cold when arrived to table. My meal was served way before the rest of my party. Akward. It was mentioned to the server it was my birthday so I sort of expected a candle or something festive but that didn’t happen. I used to go there many years ago and I was hoping it’d be the same but sadly the experience left me with a bad taste and I won’t be returning.

   So a bit of a mixed review...my meal was excellent (cassoulet on a Thursday night), but my companion did not love his meal, steak frites; he said the meat was on the chewy side and should have been more tender. The restaurant was fairly quiet, only 3 tables at 7:00 on a Thursday evening. The manager on duty was a bit of a sad-sack, saying business has been down ever since the pandemic, etc. Sounds like breakfast is a much busier time period for this cafe- Having said all this, I really enjoyed my meal and would certainly consider going back the next time I'm in SF.

   Everything was so much better than the last time we went there pre-Covid. Our server was excellent, we had a great table, the woman who was front of the house was so much better than the "below 0 on any scale" guy before. So happy both couples decided to give it another try. Last time, whatever role the jerk at the front desk was trying to perform, implied I was lying when I said we had a reservation for 15--I called twice to confirm it was on the books. Then they wanted to have us all sit at different 2 or 4 cover tables! I explained that this was a celebration before my wife's play would be performed in a black box theater. Nobody cared about it so we moved the tables and place settings together and had dinner, vowing to never return. I'll stop there. Cafe de la Presse was such a breath of fresh air last night--server amazing as well as the staff, food wonderful and front of house was so pleasant. All of us were so blown away that we are going back the next time we're in The City. Well Done!

   I saw your Check Please, Bay Area review, and was in the city, and wanted a good place for lunch in the area of the Sutter/Bush garage. I made reservations with friends for that special lunch. Food was good, but the service was terrible. We waited for an hour for our food. Fortunately we were with good friends, and the wait was enjoyable, but I was embarrassed since I was the person who recommended your place. We were seated downstairs and wish we was seated upstairs. Maybe the service would have been better. One of the service persons asked if we wanted dessert. We had not even got our entrees!!!!!!! No-one seemed to be keeping track. I don't often write bad reviews. But I was disappointed. I will stay with the Left Bank in Marin for the food and service!!!!

    Had three waiters taking care of us which lead to miscommunication for our orders. Condiments were brought out too late and I had a discussion with one of the waiters about the preparation of coffee specialties. I have ordere a latte macchiato and he told me tht there is no such thing, just a latte or a macchiato.

    I have been to this restaurant many times over many years. My friends and I went this time for a birthday lunch. Deviled eggs great. Foie gras great. Special lamb entree ordered by three friends, and they loved it. I had the excellent hamburger with two eggs over easy, done to perfection. Desserts were wonderful: chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, crème brûlée. Five thumbs up!

    Arrived on a rainy Sunday afternoon in mid-January. Hostess took us to a nice table in the back (and down some stairs) Order some drinks and salmon and duck confit. Both came out very quickly, but hot, well-seasoned and delicious. Dessert (profiteroles) and coffee completed the meal. Excellent service from Aurelia (who looked an awful lot like Lady Gaga.). Can't wait to return!

    Very busy but friendly staff, quickly seated, attentive service, nice French-inspired menu. Steak Frites was juice and tender and the fires were nice and crispy. been here often and always come back.

    This restaurant is not open for dinner, so we never got to dine there. Suggest open table removes this restaurant from their app for dinner so people don’t make reservations and show up to a closed restaurant

    Guess I am used to fine French service (even in S.F.) but this is not, Food are served in huge plates & bowls but with not long-enough silverware, Beets in salad come in large chunks of 2” x 4” sizes that you have to cut up yourself, Coq Au Vin is just 2 drumsticks served with pasta - but no bacon bits, mushrooms, pearl-onions, nor chestnuts in the sauce, like I get elsewhere & in Paris, They sat us in the most crowded area of the restaurant while another area was sparsely seated, Lastly, they did not even take note of the fact we were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary, as mentioned in our booking ! We avoided this place for a decade, but decided to go back & give them a chance due to high praises in “Check Please!” TV show, and were disappointed again !!!

    Even returning after the pandemic, they continue to be outstanding. Delicious, well-prepared foods and friendly staff that are so accommodating especially when it turned out a dish unexpectedly had an item not listed that we couldn't eat; they kindly adjusted for us.

    The service was terrific. We sat outside in the sun and our waitress accommodated our various moves and requests for an umbrella. The place was jumping and the food was solid.

    Café de la Presse is one of those places that both visitors and locals enjoy. The food is well prepared, the dining room is comfortable and the service is attentive. The bread and butter is excellent and fresh--and they don't charge you extra for it like so many restaurants have started doing! It's right off Union Square which makes it perfect for those times you need a food break from shopping or strolling around.

    Only negative - we had a 730pm reservation on Saturday and the kitchen was on the verge of closing. By the time we were ready for dessert we were told it was not possible because the kitchen was closed. The waiter was wonderful and the food was good. Would still go back but clearly not for a 730 reservation.

    Food was very good, but the waiter could not grasp the concept of a gin martini. We were offered a coffee drink. Furthermore, my wife’s entree was served with her appetizer, a terrible mistake. However, the food is very good! We will give them another chance.
