we went to the burns night evening so a five course meal with a scottish flavour. loved the first four courses but disappointed in the tunnocks tea cakes 'cos they weren't really!! the final desert course was lovely but for me, too rich. however a lovely experience and well worht going. the staff are always so lovely and make one feel so very welcome.
Bagpipe player took away from the experience rather than added! Thankfully only walked through twice but noise was deafening! Check bill as we were charged for a three course and a two course but only had. A main and a two course ...difference of about £35! Fantastic service though and somewhere special for a treat.
Three of us thoroughly enjoyed our three course lunch. Every course for each of us delivered way above expectation both in terms of flavour and look. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and we were very well looked after. A very happy experience indeed!
Was just a shame it was a bit cold in there! Otherwise divine!
Friendly but professional. Very enjoyable food. A very nice restaurant on our doorstep. We made the booking as a treat for our son and new fiancée down from Liverpool and an acknowledgement was made with a tiny cake and chocolate 'congrats' written on the plate. A nice' unexpected touch ' thank you. Would definitely come again. PS have been before !!
a very gastronomic £26 88 ? menu matched the celebration we wish to make for my husbands 84th Birthday-service excellent food delicious wine a 23 Macedonian very palatable
Good value for money, good quality meat and good atmosphere
Fantastic as always. Great food , service and quality. Went on a Sunday for the set menu and great value . Only thing I would say is maybe a few more choices as wife is Vegetarian and not mad on fish so left 1 starter and 1 main course but thoroughly enjoyed what she did have. Love this restaurant.
Excellent menu and cooking on a par with the very best in Central London itself. Parking however is a bit of a problem if not exciting!!
Went on a Saturday evening. Was nicely busy and service was good. The food and wine were excellent. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion. My only criticism is they like to re-fill your wine glass and we would prefer to be left to pour our own.
We visited for a small birthday lunch. The set menu had a good choice. The portion sizes were modest, but that was fine. The food and plates could have been hotter, a common complaint for most restaurants we visits. Nevertheless the food was nicely presented and tasty.
The restaurant was full with a good ambience, if a little loud at times.
The restaurant was well staffed and they were all very good. - polite and friendly.
We enjoyed our mocktails in the bar beforehand.
Overall it was a very good experience.
The food was good but the portions were very small
Ambience excellent. Menu good, two set menus to choose from. Staff very pleasant and attentive.
Disappointed with the cheese board. Minuscule portion and not a great selection. A local/British chessboard wins every time.
In fact if given the choice local produce wins the day.
Business lunch, excellent service and very good value. Best restaurant in the area
First impressions always set up the evening ... two beautiful kir royale s arrived ... best we have ever drunk !
Food wonderful... Had to slow them down as we were having fun .
Excellent food with great service. Set menu limited choice but well presented
The food was as usual the best in the area, the staff attentive and friendly. The atmosphere superb. Cannot praise it highly enough. It is find dining but with good sized portions. Came away very happy.
Had the Sunday lumch menu and the choices were very good. I chose for main the fish and it was very tasty.
The only thing I found this time was the courses were served too quickly, I would have prefered a few more minutes between each course
We had a really nice Sunday lunch, with good food, great wine and a friendly atmosphere.
The hopefully constructive criticism I would have, is that we received our first course before I had managed to order the wine and that the Yorkshire puddings were very dry (probably pre-cooked).
Something has changed at Chapter 1. Somehow the portions have got much bigger. Nice but I prefer the older setup. But as usual the food was very good. We will be back. The service is brilliant.
The food was absolutely delicious. If you have yet to pay a visit I suggest you do.
We enjoyed the usual high standard of both food and service at |Chapter One.
The new menu is exceptional, by far the best oysters I have ever had, even at the sea side. We arrived an hour early expecting to camp at the bar but got seated straight away. Helpful front of house team, a very enjoyable lunch
Lovely evening and food delicious, waiters very attentive. Lovely suroundings, but did not like clients using mobile phones at the table.
Very much enjoyed good food and service. Slightly disappointed when it came to non alcoholic drink options. Drinks like Seedlip / alcohol free beer selections are now widely available in most places. Low alcohol wines as well. Will return however. Wonderstuff team!
Very pleasant visit with terrific food. Not "cheap" but good value for an excellent meal.
Excellent New Year’s Day meal. Lovely, festively decorated restaurant. Excellent service from everybody we met. Delicious and plentiful food. The staff were so helpful and friendly and catered to our toddler very well too. My only slight comment for improvement was that the starters and mains came out very quickly and we felt a little rushed. Overall, excellent though and we will be returning.
Can’t understand why they lost a Michelin star a few years ago. Food is still worth it.
First class as always - the waiter opening our bottle of Bordeaux wine needed some training but rather than that all fantastic! The main waiter did really look after us so well. Recommend
Service was quite wonderful. Our waiter was superb - attentive, polite & with a sense of humour.
Loved every second of our visit.
Cannot wait to return.
We were made to feel very special, even receiving a slice of Opera Cake and piped ‘Happy Anniversary’ icing at the end of the meal. Delicious food with a festive edge. Lovely wine paring (with gentle consideration of budget).
A very special occasion beautifully marked by this establishment. Thank you very much Chapter One.
Came here for lunch and it's one of the best restaurants outside of London.
They have high chairs to cater for young children as well as a children's menu. Staff was very courteous and attentive from start to finish - they asked us if we wanted to change from a tablespoon to a teaspoon so it was easier for our little boy to eat his dessert, to offering to wash our little boy's own cutlery that was used for his main meal! I've never received such a brilliant service from any other restaurant when dining out with a child. It is this reason that made me write the review as I feel they deserve the praise.
The food was amazing! We ate from the Menu Du Jour and the standards was on par with Michelin dining in central London.
We will definitely be back to try out other dishes from the menu.
Unfortunately after many visits ,which we have really enjoyed, we booked for my brother ‘s 80 th birthday as thought we could rely on the same.
Started well, drink and order taken, second drink order forgotten, and meal nearly finished before arriving
After reminding them. Again with dessert, asked to see wine list , again forgotten, so went without.
Warm mince pies came immediately, but after a good 10 to 15 minutes had to remind them for coffee,
Came but was Luke warm.
The table beside us, who came in 30 minutes after us had their coffee before us !
Also , on booking , I mentioned the 80 th birthday, noticed a few other tables receiving a little cake as a good gesture, my brother , who had only just come out from hospital received nothing.
I realised this is complimentary, but might have made up for other mistakes.
Sorry to have to send, but feel it should be noted,
Regards, ray Lewis.
Was very expensive but worth the experience. It is worth a trip for a special occasion.
I went for dinner with my girlfriend on a Sunday night and tge food was delicious and just perfectly cooked and service very professional and friendly, definitely I would recommend
Been many times, food always top notch. Service is very patchy and bar service poor. The food is undoubtably Michelin star quality (they used to have a star). The ‘room’ is pleasant and has a good feeling. We were there on the Sunday before christmas, it was very busy but good atmosphere. The bar experience is just plain poor, we arrived stood near the bar, all seats were taken, it took 15 minutes to be offered a drink and then some cocktails were not available and then they got the cocktail order wrong, staff are just not well trained or high quality. The restaurant service was better, but just not professional. The food on the other hand was absolutely top notch. Lovely bread, starters of deconstructed kedgeree and fish terrine were fabulous. Main courses of cod and skate were delicious and beautifully presented. Desserts of custard tart and rum soaked pineapple were superb. Sort the service and it would be five star!
We went for an early Christmas lunch, just the two of us. The ambience was great - everyone enjoying themselves. Service hit the right note - attentive without being intrusive but also very good natured and welcoming . The food, albeit a set menu (with choices) was served promptly and was hot. The quality of the main course was excellent, but that does not detract from the other three courses. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Fantastic food, but service not as attentive as usual. Maybe because it was very busy just before Christmas, but there seemed to have plenty of staff!
The food was fabulous, beautiful décor, wonderful staff and that cheese board - Wow! It was all amazing! Thank you so much.
Struggled to find anything on the menu ended up going with the Octopus to start which was nice and then the Venison which was so tough I couldn’t eat it. Most disappointing meal I have had at Chapter One and won’t be going back until the menu changes.
