The Poet offers an informal yet refined dining experience in the heart of Kent. Mentioned in both the Good Food Guide and Harden's, and set in a charismatic 16th century building, diners can expect food of the highest standards, made using the finest local and seasonal produce, lovingly prepared by a small team of chefs led by Head Chef & Director Lee Adams. In addition to the food, we offer a meticulously curated wine list and innovative cocktails.World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield and is the inspiration behind the name. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross, and later won acclaim for his writing. We're pretty sure he would have loved our food too!A warm welcome awaits diners from Front of House Manager Mary Jane Frost and her team. We look forward to seeing you!Due to space and storage constraints, we do not cater for the vegan diet. When booking a table in the evening, please be aware that we are a residential home and as such we ask that guests depart the restaurant by 09:00pm and have consideration for our neighbor's when leaving. We also ask guests to call 48 hours before booking if the table is for 6 people and above, so we can organise a preorder before your arrival. We have tables situated outside for those with dogs as we only allow guide dogs within the restaurant. Please be aware when visiting that there is a security gate on entry, the code for which is written on the gate, you will need to exit your vehicle to input the code. You will find the Pavilion restaurant next to the main house, opposite the Mews Houses. Ample parking available. Please be aware that our disabled lift is currently out of order. If you require disabled access please notify us ahead of time on 01732445690 and we can advise the best place to park.
