Mentioned in both the Good Food Guide and Harden's, and set in a charismatic 16th century building, diners can expect food of the highest standards, made using the finest local and seasonal produce, lovingly prepared by a small team of chefs led by Head Chef & Director Lee Adams. In addition to the food, we offer a meticulously curated wine list and innovative cocktails.World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield and is the inspiration behind the name. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross, and later won acclaim for his writing. We're pretty sure he would have loved our food too!A warm welcome awaits diners from Front of House Manager Mary Jane Frost and her team. We look forward to seeing you!Due to space and storage constraints, we do not cater for the vegan diet.     Yet another outstanding lunch and first class dining experience at the Poet, this time the chocolate week menu. The foie gras starter was melt in the mouth and sooo tasty, leaving you eagerly awaiting the next course. The main of octopus and scallops was the best octopus dish I have ever had - soo good. The multi taster chocolate dessert plate was beautifully presented and a great way to round off an outstanding lunch. Beautifully presented, sumptuous food and the usual highly impressive, impeccable service from engaging staff, this time led by Poppy. We will be back as soon as we can.

    Another great Sunday Roast! Sunday's are always busy and lively at The Hare & Billet Pub but with a real sense of 'feeling at home'. It's a relaxed atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves.
