EDGAR Bar & Kitchen at The Mayflower Hotel
Restaurant is severely understaffed. They did not recognize my brunch reservation. I ended up sitting at the bar to get served. Sat a long time to order food. The couple sitting next to me ordered after me and had more complex orders, but they got their food before me. The food took forever to come out and pieces were missing. The coffee cup had lipstick on it.
At night for drinks, the bartenders were friendly. Cocktails were quick and tasty.
Super friendly staff and yummy food. Perfect for a random outing.
Floor and booth seating was very dirty.
Food was great.
Service was as well until the server forgot to complete our closeput.
As a local, I really wanted to like this place, and have it be our new go-to spot. On previous occasions, the bartenders and the drinks were amazing. However, the restaurant staff and food didn’t live up to the rest. The servers were inattentive. The food order was inaccurate and delivered cold. There was no real effort on staff’s part.
We gathered for a birthday party and had requested a nook, or area where we could celebrate as a small group of 8. EDGAR gave us the private room with out asking! This was a nice start to a lovely evening. The food was very tasty and the wine (INSTRINSIC from Washington State) was yummy. I used my OT rewards to help defray the costs. Since we were apart, service kind of lagged, but we didnt care, besides the evening was declared a success by the bday girl!
Great food, several items on the menu were unavailable and there were no replacements for them. Nice atmosphere on the outside by the windows, a little cramped and could have used some updating, but otherwise enjoyable. Aggressive wait staff, so make sure you let them know when they can remove your drinks and plates.
What an amazing experience! By far, the best service I’ve had in DC!
Edgar is a great choice for dinner. The food is delicious. I had the sea bass and it melted in my mouth. The Caesar salad was very tasty as well. Others in my party were very happy with their meals as well. Will come back when in town.
Although we booked on OpenTable, when we arrived at the restaurant, there was a private event going on. They did seat us -- at a too small table in the back of the restaurant. But it was chaotic, and just weird. Had to argue are way through the registration table for the event. Everyone was rude. Bad, bad, bad, bad, just bad. We decided to leave and had a great dinner at Morton's.
Good Caesar salad, but limited menu and terribly overpriced.
Nice atmosphere with good food. Bar is very busy during happy hour and the noice level a bit high, but still a lovely setting. Sometimes a wait for drinks. We. Ate in the restaurant area after cocktails. Service was good. Food interesting. The chicken bites were mostly chick peas. Highly seasoned .
Well, we were staying at the Mayflower on New Years Eve and went to the Edgar on New Years Day expecting that they would be serving a special brunch, but as it turns out they were not ie: just had the regular restaurant menu for lunch (my bad for not checking). We have eaten here many times and always had great food/service (as we did this time as well), but would suggest that for special days that they offer a special, extended brunch menu (the eggs Benedict are awesome)!
Food is great. I had rib eye steak at dinner and salmon at lunch. Both were delicious. Kids menu has many items too and the price is very reasonable. Great service, highly recommend.
Well, the food was good. At least the food that we got.
Edgar is near our office, so we've tried it a couple of times. Each time our attitude is "well, maybe this time it will be OK." Why do we keep expecting something different? Took 45 minutes between the time we ordered and the time the food actually arrived. But just our entrees. The appetizers never appeared. Server blamed the kitchen. But that didn't excuse the fact that he never came back to the table to check on us or to apologize for it taking so long. And we had to point out that the appetizers never arrived. He then had to bring the manager over who had to verify with us that the appetizers never arrived. His response was "they must have been delivered to another table." No real apology. Nothing comped. At least we weren't charged for them LOL. Hope the other table enjoyed them.
It's too bad. The menu and food at Edgar are actually good. You would expect better service in the hotel restaurant at the Mayflower. But it has always been this way. Don't expect anything else. If you have all day, and won't be annoyed by terrible service, then by all means, enjoy the food!
Even though it was not crowded, it took me 15 minutes to get any service. I order a starter which did come until our meal was delivered. The food was just okay. I had to ask three times for the check. It is a shame because the location and ambiance are good.
I’ve been going to Edgar for work lunches and after-work cocktails for years. I convinced my office to hold our holiday party lunch there a few years ago. It’s close to our office and the food is good, though the service isn’t always up to par.
I had such a bad service experience last week at lunch that I will not return to Edgar, absent a significant effort at correction from the restaurant.
A colleague and I went to Edgar for lunch last Thursday and ordered Cobb salads. When the bill came, we were clearly charged an incorrect amount, more than the items listed. I alerted the waiter and asked him to please correct it quickly, because I had a meeting to go to. Long story short, after this, it took over 20 minutes to process the check - despite intervention from the manager! - and I missed my meeting. There were multiple errors made, and we did not receive an appropriate apology for the ridiculous delay (they weren’t busy; there were very few customers in the restaurant). No customer should have to put up with such terrible service. I expect the restaurant to make it right, or I won’t be back.
The crab cakes used lump crab meat and were flavorfull - but had too much filler. You could see the breading. The manhatten (drink) I ordered was expensive for a glass only half-filled. Also, I prefer a more traditional ambience at the Mayflower.
The service at dinner was terrific! Our waiter was great. Friendly, attentive and so kind. The food was really good - the presentation was lacking. The plates were like an earthen ware. At the steak and side came out of two separate plates and not well plated.
The desserts were just ok. But again the service was 1st rate and the location was terrific. The Mayflower is still a beautiful hotel!
Horrible food. Medium steaks came out full of blood twice for two people. Tasteless french onion soup.
The Edgar is a nice update in the classic Mayflower Hotel. I was not a hotel guest, but it looked inviting as I walked past to my nearby hotel, and I thought it would be a fun spot although I was dining alone. The menu was great and everything I ordered was tasty and satisfying. The waitress was warm, welcoming and efficient. However, the hostess walked me back to a table in what was clearly Siberia; one could hear a pin drop. As I dined, the room got more filled, but all with either solo diners or those who could be parents of those seated in the other lively dining rooms. A pity, especially for a spot which probably could cater to a lot of solo business travelers.
We went here for several business meals. The bar closed early in the evening (at 11:00P), however it might be for the comfort of the hotel guests. The food was hit and miss--the cheese on the onion soup smelled a little strong and the pasta wasn't a favorite, but some dishes (like the avocado toast and the eggs benedict) were great. Their poached eggs were perfect which is a rarity!
Not my favorite place in DC but is convenient and worked ok for a business breakfast and lunch.
The bar noise spilled over to restaurant.
Food quality and presentation was substandard
The bread was hard
The steak was not value for money
The mushrooms were drowned in sauce
The flatbread was good though.
For $120 for 2 of us it was not worth the money
I lost a key fob at my table and they went they extraordinary lengths to notify me. Many Thanks!!!
Wonderful food and service. A go to place
My chicken was way too salty and my husband and friends sea bass was very watery. They took my chicken back and I got French onion soup which was pretty good. The wait staff was nice, but the food was not great especially for the price.
Great ambiance and kind service. It would have been better if they had gluten-free/allergy free options available.
Very busy and loud on a Saturday night. Hard to get server's attention. But the food and décor were good. Great cocktails. I'd go back when it is less busy. Would like to try more of the menu items. Decent happy hour specials.
Great pre show meal and drinks
The flat bread oven was not working, which limited selection. They apologized profusely. The calamari appetizer was delicious and large. A whole meal. Wine was way overpriced.
An excellent place for breakfast!
Fantastic drinks and food! Love the atmosphere. The wait staff could be more attentive but besides that the place is fantastic
A great restaurant for a casual business lunch. The staff is very courteous and professional. Delicious burgers and crab cakes.
Nice place for dinner after a busy day of sight seeing.
Always a reliably good spot for breakfast with attentive service and a varied menu ranging from lighter to heavier options. I've eaten here many times and have always enjoyed the food. The service is attentive without being oppressive and I've never felt rushed or ignored.
was a challenging experience from the very beginning: I arranged a business meeting with two executives, in advance of their arrival, and getting set at the table seemed beyond her comprehension (it took ten minutes and the restaurant was empty). Beyond that, we had to wait far too long for service, repeatedly. I would have given 1-star, but I don't want to seem obnoxious about it. The food was good.
Wish i saved her name, but the waitress was superb and sometimes the service can be spotty there. But the service was spectacular this time. And the food and drinks too.
Fantastic Food and service. Would absolutely return!
The food was good. We asked for unbuttered English muffins and they came with butter. It was pretty noisy too. Maybe some nice area carpets would cut down the noise. Other than that, it was fine
Our reservation was not noted by anyone in the restaurant. They did not have a host or manager available to run the floor and since we were six people the servers would not seat us at first. when they offered a table it was not appropriate for a child because it was a high top. My friend walked around the restaurant until she found a table in the back which would seat us with a high chair for the child.
My reservation through open table was useless to this restaurant and I was embarrassed to bring my friends. My friends made the best of a bad experience and we were able to get food.
Food was good to great, came in for Mother's Day between the lunch and dinner rush as I was able to get a last minute reservation. Beautiful and varied spot, very comfortable. Took 10 minutes for someone to come to front of house to seat us. Seated in the back dining room, it felt like we were eating in the middle of a (very loud, very behind the scenes) staff meeting as they were prepping for dinner service, assumedly a large party. Unsure why we were seated there, as the restaurant wasn't crowded at all during this time. Wait staff dropped silver ware on the ground and it sat there for 15-30min. We asked to speak to a manager at the conclusion of our meal and the server was unsure if she was present... and they acted as such.

Normaalgesproken kun je inderdaad bij dit restaurant reserveren door de datum, tijd en groepsgrootte op OpenTable te kiezen. Vanwege lokale maatregelen is reserveren bij dit restaurant misschien niet mogelijk.
