Calle Dão is designed to pay homage to Havana's once-thriving El Barrio Chino (Chinatown). Known as the largest such community in Latin America, El Barrio Chino occupied 44 square blocks of real estate in the late 1870s. As the Cuban and Chinese cultures mixed, a unique fusion of cuisine emerged. Today, El Barrio Chino occupies a small section of the narrow Calle Cuchillo - Knife Street - from which Calle Dão takes its name.

The food here is terrific - the service could be better, they are slow and didn't take a drink order until we asked. VERY VERY noisy.

The food was decent for restaurant week and happy hour drinks were good. However, I was quite confused when I was charged an additional $$ tip was charged to my card that I absolutely did not authorize. I will be disputing with my financial institution and taking proper action. I was so excited to try this restaurant, and I’m quite disappointed with the service and how I was treated.

We had a great experience at Calle Dao. We went for brunch, took advantage of the restaurant week special, and also the unlimited drink option. The food was delicious (if a bit slow coming) and the service was friendly. We also really appreciated the covered outdoor seating - with windows open there was plenty of fresh air, but we were still well protected from the rain. I'd definitely recommend it.
