We liked the restaurant and will return but the Mexican Food doesn't compare to what we can get in California. The service was great and we liked the atmosphere.
Food was not good, service was terrible, prices were way too high for what we got. Overall will definitely not be back.
Took my wife for her birthday, found this gem online as we were visiting for the weekend and it was worth the visit! There were authentic Mexican selections which were excellent with generous portions, the service was outstanding with a very helpful waiter named Johnny (ask for him). The owner took the time to see if our seating was adequate., on and on....Our overall experience was fantastic! Not crowded, off the beaten path from other restaurants in Georgetown. Glad we found it!
Being somewhat familiar with authentic Mexican food, I look forward to trying offerings other than enchiladas, fajitas, and burritos. I joyfully ordered the chicken in mole poblano. The salsa for the chips was good, and the sides were acceptable, but I had to return the chicken breast for being overcooked, dry, and tough. They were very apologetic and brought me a new piece of chicken, but it was the same. (I lied when they asked how the new one was; I did not want to come off as implacable in front of my guest.) I personally might have trouble grilling a piece of chicken and keeping it moist, but I don't expect a professional chef to have the same trouble.
Best Mex in NW DC! Try the Aracheneros and Margarita pitchers.
This was probably the first Mexican restaurant where we had to wait for more than 15 minutes for our order to arrive. In fact, it took about 40 minutes for them to give use our "vegetarian" dishes. For the high price of the dishes, the food itself was satisfactory and no different than other standard Mexican fare. All in all, a bit of a disappointment.
Good value and pleasant servers. The ambience is spaghetti or should I say taco-western, but we had expected that. These facts do nothing to detract from our very good rating. The food is good and sated a hearty eater in our group. I asked that our dishes be spicy, which was probably wise as they season with a light hand.
Los Cuates did not honor a birthday reservation that was made over a month in advance. I received an email confirming my reservation 24 hours prior. I was told my group would be sat as soon as possible and they would give me a call when the table was ready. I called the restaurant an hour later for a seating update; they hung up on me mid-conversation. They also hung up on my friends. They never called that night. Terrible service and complete disregard for the customer.
Had the best BBQ ribs of my entire life there! Also, the complimentary salsa and chips just kept on coming without us having to ask!
Margs were not good, very watery. The guacamole appetizer was tiny and overpriced. Also the tables were obnoxiously close together, a drink spilled at the table next to us and it got on me because we were so close.
Food was excellent, though it took a while to come.
I've walked by this place a million times and I finally went with a friend for dinner. The food was delicious and the waiters friendly. I wish their salsa was either blended or maybe cut into smaller chunks so the chips didn't break as often, but overall it was great.
Great neighborhood place. Food consistently good, as is service
Poor service, not very good food but queso is so good only good thing
Lively place. Good food from typical Mexican menu of enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, etc. Service was little slow as place was packed.
It took an hour and a half to get our food. The waiters were dropping plates of food on the floor every ten minutes. They were smart enough to bring our kids food first (an hour and a half after ordering) then the adult food showed up 15 mins after that.
I would not recommend.
Had reservation for 9 people at 7:45p and they didn't have a table for us when we arrived on time. Place was packed. Had to wait 30 minutes, but they comped our group a round of drinks and host was very nice and apologetic. Waitress was clearly stressed and impatient in taking our order. Had better experiences on previous visits. Food was great though. Would go again!
Some of the best queso in town. Their rib fajitas don't quite fall off the bone like they used to, but maybe we just had a bad batch.
Worst service we ever received
Los Cuates is my favorite Mexican food in the city. I was really excited when the new Adams Morgan location opened. The food is excellent but the service has been pretty lousy the last few months.
Very subpar food and drinks. The guacamole was not freshly made. Looked and tasted packaged. I'm shocked the restaurant has lasted. Not many people dining either 👎
Good to take college kids to. Loud, crowded and ok service (attentive but slow!) food was average and reasonable price. Portions are big. Personally I would go elsewhere but the college boys I took were fine and full.
Mediocre food but good for margaritas and chips: / guacamole. Good service but music a little too loud as speaker above our table
Loud music and slow service meant the experience wasn't what it could have been. The food is pretty good, but the restaurant filled in only after we had placed order, making it hard to understand why it was so slow.
I hate giving bad reviews, but I really did not enjoy the food here. Maybe I'm just picky because I LOVE Mexican food, but I did not enjoy the food. I actually felt it was a waste of money
Los Cuates has previously been really good. This trip was not. Food was served cold, orders were not correct, but the server was excellent. I am not sure what's going on in the kitchen, but it was not as good an experience as we have had on previous trips to this restaurant. I was really disappointed.
I had made a reservation for a party of 12 because it was our final team dinner. When we arrived, they had no reservations whatsoever in their system. Therefore, we had to awkwardly it in the middle of the restaurant at separate tables. This was not what we were planning on. It was extremely disappointing.
Furthermore, the service was lacking. I have usually had great experiences there, but they were slow, not friendly, and seemed a bit clueless. When we ordered margaritas, the server was overly suspicious - bending our IDs very forcefully and testing only me and one other person. It was truly just an unpleasant experience.
We were visiting DC for pleasure, chose Los Cuates based on consumer reviews. Made a reservation for Saturday night at 7:30. I'd read that reservations may only do you so much good, and when we got there the hostess seemed on the verge of tears from trying to manage the walk-in demand and those with reservations. One of the restaurant people came up to save her from a meltdown and through the minor chaos found us a table for two. Extremely busy, pulls a college crowd as well as others. Loved the decor/ambiance (they had seating upstairs which we didn't see). There appeared to be enough staff, but it was catch-as-catch-can in getting attention and service...again, this was half expected on our part. The supposedly vaunted margaritas did not live up to expectations (too fruity), especially as I'd ordered a top shelf. But oh my, the food! Just delicious. I had the seafood (scallops and shrimp) tortilla wraps with all the usual sides. The corn wrap was light and flavorful, while the seafood tasted like it was just pulled from the sea. We really did enjoy the overall experience (including the bachelorette party going on next to us), and if this review were based solely on the food I'd give it five stars.
Fun neighbor restaurant. Excellent margaritas and chips and salsa.
Very good margaritas. I love the burritos and the enchiladas. Los Cuates has the best chips and salsa in town!
Los Quantes always has great food. I made a reservation for a late lunch on a Saturday and it did get pretty busy by 4:00pm but overall was fine. The noise isn't too bad. I always get the enchiladas which are amazing. I'm not sure what they put in their salsa but I always need a refill. I have yet to try the guac but it looks like they give you your money's worth!
So I like no scratch that love Mexican food and I really love that home cooking feel with a comfort food feel. Love the regular cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses versus the "fancy" kind ;).
The ambiance is great for an authentic feel to your eating experience....would definitely consider coming back if I'm in Georgetown.
We were a little disappointed. It seems as though the quality of service and food has declined recently. It used to be our favorite place in Georgetown, but it's not as good as it once was. We've been going there for six years.
We try to give Los Cuates a benefit of a doubt about their service, as the food has always been very good. However, we always end up with the same conclusion: This restaurant would be SO MUCH better if they had better service! Servers basically take your order, and deliver the food when it comes out, and that's it. Forget about getting your water or sodas refilled, or if you need any additional condiments. And it's not only limited to busy times, as when we were in there, there were only 5 other tables, with at least 4 servers working. We love the food, but please get the service together!!!
Really enjoyed this!
The service was very good, and the food and margaritas were outstanding. I had a beef enchilada and a seafood enchilada and they were both delicious.
Incredible and authentic food, with very attentive wait staff!
I just ate here for the first time in years. My parents are visiting, so I brought them here based on good memories. When I worked in Georgetown from 2008-2011, eating here a couple of times a month was a treat. The meal I just had one was one of the worst I've had in a restaurant in years across multiple countries. I've had better meals in slums.
We had a reservation through Open Table for 8, but we didn't get seated until 8:30. There was no room to sit or stand while waiting. The margaritas were insipid. Our food took another hour and we didn't get food until they were closing. My fajitas were bland, tasteless mush without spices or seasoning. Everything was cold. I was looking forward to this, but I'm never coming here again. The entire experience smacked of pure incompetence.
We went in for chips and cheese and margaritas! Friendly atmopshere and the blackberry marg was a standout. Great white queso and chips...that kept on coming. Fresh salsa and chips are a plus when they know customers come in for 'just that' sometimes :) Would visit again!
Good food especially the salsa!!
