Mia Francesca features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio. It was one of the first restaurants in Chicago to encourage the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, simple, rustic cooking, friendly service, and fair prices.

Waiting for a table at the beautiful antique bar is part of the charm of Mia Francesca. The plush upstairs dining room and lounge can be reserved for private events, as can the more intimate coach house tucked away behind the restaurant. In the summer, al fresco dining is also available on a charming cobblestone terrace.

While the food was excellent, the noise level was rather loud. It would have been difficult for any group to hear - it was difficult enough for two of us. However, the meal was very good, starting with the Bruschetta and for the entree of Spaghetti Carbonara. My impression was a feeling of being rushed. One server took our wine and appetizer order and immediately after another server (turned out to be the bartender) asked if we were ready to order. We told him we were waiting for the wine and appetizer and when we were finished we would order our "Primi." No sooner had we nearly completed the Bruschetta he wanted our entree order. After we placed it the dishes appeared within 10 min. This had to have been "already prepared and heated up" - nothing close to making it to order. We were done within an hour of arriving. For a high rated restaurant, that's way too fast. The reason for the three star is when we got the check it included a glass of wine we had not ordered and, most troubling, 3% "supplementary" fee to purportedly cover employee insurance. No mention of this "fee" anywhere - it just appeared. The check was, after some work by staff, re-issued but it will be TBD what actually appears on my CC statement. Overall, loved the food - disappointed in the service.

Great evening, food was excellent as always as was the attentive service by Christopher and his staff. There's a reason it's my neighborhood go to for quality Italian!

I had Dana’s Bolognese gluten free. They used a thicker linguini noodle that I didn’t like. It was too thick. I prefer a penne noodle. The sauce however was fantastic. The food came so fast we didn’t have a chance to get the salad that was ordered so we cancelled that. It is very loud in there but all in all we enjoyed the food and our waiter was great.

Not the same. Feels like it was sold to a big box chain company. Service was spotty. Food was lukewarm. Made a special 60th birthday note in OpenTable AND called the week of to confirm it was noted. Not one mention of the birthday during our visit. Nothing. Not even a greeting. Have been dining here for 20 years. Will not be back.

This was a disappointing experience. The piped-in techno music is not conducive to a pleasant dining experience. Food was okay, but there are much better Italian restaurant options in Chicago. The service was good, but Francesca’s is not the quality Italian dining it once was.
