Set in the centre of the main street of the historic market town of Clitheroe, the Swan and Royal in a former coaching inn dating back to the 1830s.In its earlier years as a hostelry, it boasts guests both famous and some say infamous, in the local area and throughout the country. You can stay in rooms named after a selection of the most interesting of these people. After the fire, the Swan and Royal has undergone a major refurbishment, keeping its original character and still making it a warm and friendly place to eat and drink. Great professional staff. They were attentive without intruding. We were impressed by their knowledge of the menu and that they were able to describe the dishes that weren't self-explanatory on the menu. Our party was made up of people who were intolerant of wheat, shellfish and diary and we all managed to find something that we enjoyed. Great ambience with a roaring log burner. There was a large party in the same room as us and we were told that we could move if we wished, which we appreciated. We didn’t move as I’m sure we were as lively as they were at times!!
