Osteria da Nino
Delicious and authentic Italian food! Homemade pasta, tender veal, freshly filled cannoli with crisp shells.
Prices are a little high for what you get, but it tastes great!
We really enjoyed our meal at Osteria da Nino despite several missteps. We had passed by this place a 100, but always had out go-to place for Italian. One the 101th, we decided to give it a try and are glad we did. They were busy on our visit, but it was almost 15 mins before someone took our drink order after we sat down and then another 15 mins or so to take our appetizer & meal order. Once it emptied out a little the service got much better and was very pleasant. The calamari app and my cavietelli pasta w/lamb ragu were fantastistic, however my wife's veal was overdone and very dry. But the sauce and side that came with it were great and almost saved the dish. Overall we will absolutly try it again as the prices were reasonable and there were a lot of choices on the menu that we wanted to try
The food was delicious and fairly priced. The service was so-so. Glad we weren’t in a rush because it took a while to order etc. On the flip side, definitely didn’t feel like we were being rushed out and we enjoyed a longer dinner.
Everything great, but service can be slow. Seems like there is lots of turnover of wait staff.
ODN was delightful as always.
The perfect place for a girls evening to catch up. Delicious food in a quiet space so we could actually hear each other. The pace was great, allowing us time to visit and serving great pasta and seafood.
We'll be back.
The home made fettuccini looked like Asian noodles. The salmon was very dry even though I asked for medium rare.
Salad was swimming in dressing. I would not come back.
We have eaten here once before. We enjoyed that there was easy parking across the street. We arrived early, around 5:30 PM with a reservation for 6 PM. There was no problem in getting seated and served. The waitress was very nice in taking our orders and explaining the menu and specials for the night.
The food was served nicely and tasted very fine including the fish.
Since we were there early, the noise level was low and did increase when a group came to the bar while waiting for their table, but otherwise we could speak at a comfortable level.
It was a fun night.
2/15/2020- Outstanding meal - everything was spot on for this meal. Fresh, fresh, and delicious. Service was outstanding. I had the scallops they were so sweet and tasted like fresh ocean air! Calamari was perfect, not to heavily breaded, perfectly crisp and prepared. This was so good.
Nice looking place but food was nothing special. Cauliflower flan appetizer was good but entrees -- Veal scallopini and branzini -- were pretty tasteless. Service was slow, apparently due to staff shortages. At least it was not overpriced.
Excellent food, great service and nice quiet atmosphere. This was our first time there, and we will be back soon.
My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's day. They had a 3 course meal for $75 a person. I know stereotypically restaurants overcharge and under perform on Valentine's day but this was really bad. The first course I ordered was a salad. The portion was tiny very and no variety in the salad. Ordered lobster ravioli and again portion was extremely small and the ravioli tasted like they came out of a package from Trader Joe's. Actually Trader Joes has better lobster raviolis. For dessert I had a chocolate torte that tasted like it came from the pastry case at Starbucks. None of these items were worth anywhere near $25. $75 a persom was a total rip off for what we got.
Valentines Day dinner done very well.
We knew going in on Valentine’s Day there was a limited
Our hostess waitress and host (owner) made this THE best dining experience in Shirlington. Our Valentines dinner was exceptional!!! We will definitely return. The owner called me personally and walked me through the menu. I love it.
Always a great dinner here at Osteria da Nino. Nino greeted us when we came in, it was very busy but we had a reservation. The server was very pleasant and made it a great evening. Food is always amazing, topped off with some wine and fresh bread. We cannot wait to go back.
Osteria da Nino will typically exceed your expectations. Varied menu and daily specials always hold epicurean delights, with a wine menu that will pair with every entree. Nino is always gracious and generally present to tend to your every need. A wonderful place to dine pre- and post-theatre.
Wonderful dining experience. Both food and service were exemplary. Looking forward to our next visit.
Another terrific experience. Nino is a gracious host, great food and ambiance. Perfect pre-theatre venue!
Owner is amazing, amazing service and great food. Prices good too!
Birthday dinner- food was very good, the porchetta was amazing. Service started off slowly, as it took a while -20 minutes- to get a server to show up at the table, but a glance and shoulder shrug at the manager quickly remedied the delay. After that service was great. Worth going back to
Came early and had a drink at the bar. Service was very slow. Sat down and thing got better. Small wine list but very reasonable prices and nice selection. Appetizers were great. The octopus was excellent with great smoke flavor in the potatoes. The Brussels sprouts were fantastic. Pastas were great. Homemade. The porchetta was very good with great crunchy crust and tender inside. Over all great time and very reasonable. I definitely recommend and will try again.
We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday. All was quiet and the service was good. Then came the onslaught of large parties and other guests and the service went to hell. If you're going to the theater after a meal, start your meal at least two hours before showtime. This was the second time we have had slow service but we thought we'd give it a second chance. It's a shame that the decent food is marred by unacceptable service. Next time we won't opt for Italian food when eating in Shirlington; there are so many other choices with decent service.
Well made cocktails, charming wait staff, delicious food, somewhat Old World ambiance
The food was excellent and service was good. We were there early, but by the time we left it was very noisy.
A great place to dine before going to the Signature Theater.
Largely ignored by our waiter. Hostess took care of us, taking initial order after apologizing for waiter had not greet us. After waiter eventually spoke with us, told us about the specials and took our order. We did not see him till we had completed our meal (food was brought out by bus staff) and asked him for the check.
No mention by the waiter that he had ignored us --
Food was good but not superior.
Our favorite restaurant in the Washington/Northern Virginia area. The food is outstanding and authentic, with attention to detail, the wine list is thorough, and the drinks are made well. Service is attentive but not obtrusive, and the staff is knowledgeable about the food. My friends and I first met Nino in the late-1980s when he worked at other restaurants. His knowledge of Italian cuisine and customers' needs are obvious.
Very nice dinner! Delicious and authentic lasagna! We'll go back!
Dinner on 1/20/20 was really basic and really disappointing. We received the smallest dinner portion I have ever been served in a restaurant. Do not go here hungry! The Chicken Marsala did not have a nice marsala sauce, and the chicken breast was so, so small and basic. It was served will literally two very small potato wedges and a few carrot slivers. I left hungry. Not impressed! Wine selection is great.
Very tasty brunch during Restaurant Week. Good and more than just a few choices. One dish was too salty and I was quickly given another choice no questions asked. Good and friendly service is appreciated.
Friendly and personal greeting! The wait staff was exceptionally nice and the courses were brought to the table in a personal and timely manner. The food was spectacular! We will definitely be returning!
We went for Restaurant week and had the three course dinner. The brussel sprouts and caprese were both delicious first courses. I got the cavatelli carbonara, pasta was beautifully cooked and the sauce was scrumptious. My wife got the orrichiette dish which was light and also rather tasty. Cannoli and chocolate mousse were a wonderful way to end the meal. The ambiance was very nice and the restaurant was crowded which is always a good sign. Definitely going back for another meal soon!
Good food and good wine, Nice atmosphere and an escape from other loud Shirlington restaurants. Service needs improvement. Our wait staff was overwhelmed and could only get to us when they had time. Overall, a nice place to have dinner with friends.
The folks who own or manage this restaurant are delightful. We highly recommend them. We love Italian food and the variety and preparation are terrific.
We have been coming to Osteria da Nino for at least 3 years. We enjoy the excellent food, the great service, and the family restaurant ambience when the owner is present.
As close to authentic Italian food as I’ve ever found in the USA! (And I’ve lived in Italy.) I love this place, its food, and it’s quiet, welcoming ambience.
The food was very ordinary — a real disappointment!
