   Very over priced for what it was. Almost too many flavours - everything little thing had extra different combinations - all very very sweet. Complete inflexibility to cater for children - given it was Mother’s Day, a paired back option should have been an option. Even the children’s drinks had to come as adult size and priced accordingly. Slow service clearing the plates - we had to ask for this to happen. Slow to bring the bill, had to ask 3 times for the take away boxes.

   I booked an Afternoon Tea at Peacock Alley, and it has immediately become our new favourite (previously it was Palm Court at the Balmoral). Where to begin! The setting, the superb staff (special mention to Nicola, who was phenomenal!) and of course the food! Every single item we ate was delicious, and there was so much variety, we could finish it all! It wasn't wasted however, as it came home with us! Can't wait for the next visit. Thanks again.

   Outstanding experience. Quality of food service and environment made it worth every penny. Just be aware that when advertised at £55 each they lump a service charge on the end with was £28 for 4. They really should make this clear when you book. I would have tipped anyway but that’s at my discretion and it was disappointing not to be able to reward the staff myself

   Fantastic service our waitress was amazing. Sandwiches and cakes were fresh and delicious only a slight niggle - had three tea types and after the first cup they were all cold.

   Our server was Aida, she was great and made our afternoon tea really nice. The Secret Garden afternoon tea was amazing. Cakes were so intricate and delicious. They catered for our savoury preferences too, both not big meat eaters. Later we were offered to move over to the armchairs by Iona or we could stay at our table. We chose to move and it was so comfortable and a nice ending to our visit. We had been served by Iona at our previous afternoon tea and it was so nice to see her. We enjoyed a few cocktails, before heading home, in the relaxed setting of Peacock Alley. We would definitely recommend it

    Great experience for a friends special birthday! Food was amazing and plenty of it we even got a dogy bag to take home! Lovely setting and attentive staff. Would definitely recommend this.

    We had a wonderful afternoon tea at the Waldorf. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Moreover, the ambiance was delightful with a live harpist. Gorgeous surroundings topped by a sumptuous selections of teas and cakes!

    This was a stunning experience treating my wife to a birthday afternoon tea. The location was stunning, atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, service was excellent, and the food was stunning! Would highly recommend for a special occasion!

    The venue is outstanding without being over the top. Easily top 3 in Edinburgh. Ambience is quiet enough and the further away you are seated from the bar area, the better. Food is mediocre at best and inconsistent. My soup was a blanched glop with no seasoning, salt or pepper. I had to request these seperately. In contrast, the cashew cheese dish was nice but way too salty!! Service is a hit and miss depending on who waits in you. The man who took our orders reminded me of Stephen Fry's Jeeves and he was efficient overall but it was a strain to catch his sibilant whispers and wonder at his unexpected forays in and out of an invisible boundary. The other guy with slicked back hair and mustache who brought us our tea addressed my date as "my love". While this is acceptable in informal settings and a classic British endearment used in context, here at a 5 star establishment, it was inappropriate. On an earlier visit, this gent addressed me as "my man". It is for these exceptions, I'll hesitate to bring any date to this wonderful place.

    From start to finish was outstanding, the attention to detail and the knowledge of staff was really exceptional. It was a birthday treat for the 3 of us and was a day to remember, I truly will remember this special day. From the sandwiches to the scones and cakes were out of this world. The gluten free was the best I have ever tasted. Not to mention the selection of teas, all different flavours, really wonderful. Thank you so much Peacock Alley for such a memorable day.

    Fantastic Vegan afternoon tea. Wonderfully presented and explained. Staff could not be more helpful and pleasant. They don’t rush you out of the door either, happily let you sit and chat and soak up the wonderful atmosphere, in a stunning venue.

    I’m only giving less stars for food because we just had the free crisps and nuts they gave out rather than anything else. The service was impeccable- staff were friendly and helpful - taking photos when we asked and making sure we were okay and had enough drinks etc. it’s nice going somewhere with good customer service, especially on NYE. Prices of drinks (alcohol) is expensive but that’s what you get for the Astoria I suppose and it was nice for a special occasion. Ambience music was jazz which wasn’t intrusive - they have a piano and would have been good to have had someone play that. Decoration of the peacock alley was really nice, not too extravagant but enough to make a good first impression. Would recommend for a special occasion. Taxi rank right outside too.

    This was an end of year treat for myself and my best friend The food was delicious, the cakes and savouries were works of art. I have taken a star off for value, due to the cost. If it hadn’t been Christmas, I wouldn’t have paid this amount.

    The food and drinks were great, but it would have helped quite a bit to get a more detailed overview of the tea or when drinks would arrive. We didn’t know how long the different teas should be brewed for and initially forgot to use the tea strainer. Also we were left wondering what happened to our drinks since the description when we booked said we would be greeted with a cocktail, but it didn’t arrive until the very end. Overall, a decent experience, but not quite the attention to detail I would have expected from the Waldorf.

    My husband and I booked an afternoon tea here the day after our wedding, and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience. Our server Allie was wonderful and helped to make our first outing as a married couple so special. The ambiance was incredible, and the food was spectacular. We look forward to visiting again when we return to Edinburgh.

    The lady host that’s from the Philippines was very friendly and welcoming. The room was beautifully decorated. I really enjoyed the complimentary festive cocktail, such a nice touch. The savoury part of the afternoon tea was delicious, I enjoyed this the most. The sweet part, I didn’t enjoy so much. Although the food was very pretty to look at, there wasn’t much to eat in a sense. All of it was just chocolate and inside it was mousse. I wanted more texture, like cake, sponge etc. I don’t think it is value for money. £65 for it plus a 12.5% discretionary serv charge, making it £73 per person is far too expensive for a tiny pieces of food. The service wasn’t outstanding either, our waitress service looks like she doesn’t want to be there.

    Amazing afternoon tea! It was expensive but for the service and the quality of food it was worth while. The sandwiches were delicious, we loved the sausage rolls with bacon jam! And the choice of cakes was incredible. We had to box them Up and take them home! Highly recommend for a special occasion.

    This was our second choice for a scheduled afternoon tea during our visit to Edinburg but I am so very glad this is where we ended up. The room was beautiful in itself but add Christmas decor and the space was beyond enchanting. Our server was incredibly warm and attentive, chatting with us and giving us local insight with eagerness. The food presentation was stunning and perfectly displayed. Our portions were plentiful, flavors unique and everything was delicious. Savory selection was brought out first, followed by the beautiful tray of sweets and scones with clotted cream and jam. They offered an extensive list of teas, some very unique and a cocktail was included in the price as well. I can’t say enough about this wonderful experience!
