    We’ve been here several times and always had a generally good experience. The difference this time is that we were seated in the basement. That’s the downfall. The basement is really not suited for dining. If you’re in the upstairs main dining room enjoy, if they take you to the basement go somewhere else.

    Food was blah. Service was terrible. Including hostess. Lounged over hostess station. Minimal interaction. Didn’t say good bye. Server came to the table once. Never asked how food was. Just came back to see if we wanted anything else. She couldn’t be bothered with making it a nice experience. Much better places to chose from. Very disappointed.

    Another great meal by Depesquale Ventures. The only poor aspect of the experience was our waiter. The bus girl and hostess were very friendly and attentive, but the waiter was having a better time chatting and laughing with the bartender (right behind our table). I had to ask the hostess for the bill and to wrap our food because the waiter was too busy chatting with the bartender. Everything else was great.

    This place is a gem. When you walk passed, you can see the chefs cooking in the kitchen through the window. Once you walk in, you’re greeted by the host and motioned down the stairs to be seated. I was a bit nervous as I had never been to a restaurant like this before, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. The charcuterie appetizer was out of this world. The burrata bruschetta, as simple as it was, was the best I’ve ever had. You could taste the quality of the EVOO. And don’t get me started on the carbonara. On the menu it says it’s the best in the US. And I would sincerely have to agree. Actually felt like we were eating in Italy with how fresh and incredible everything tasted. The service was also impeccable. Our server made great recommendations and truly made sure we had an enjoyable evening. And then… the tiramisu happened. Have you ever seen a true tiramisu be made right in front of you? If not… then you MUST try it here. They poured espresso over the crackers and covered it with cream, then delicious shaved chocolate. WOOOWWW. This place made our last night in Boston totally worth it and brought our great trip to a close. Would 100% come back again and again.

    I typically do not provide negative reviews. Any restaurant can have a bad day. My party's experience at Assaggio was very poor. Two diners had were served dinners that were undercooked .. we were told that we would be comped for those two dinners .. only one was. My own dinner (Zuppa di Pesce) was served on a risotto which was overcooked .. the seafood was very good however. Table service was slow and inconsistent. I specially asked that dirty / used plates and utensils be removed. It did not happen. The appetizer round was very good, but it all fell apart at dinner. The lead server (a nice young man) had no clue what to do to correct matters or how to take charge. The manager was unable to speak to me because she was manning the bar. I spoke to her when I left. She was also nice, but clearly had no experience. Our final night in Boston (family reunion) was a dud. I won't be going back there, and I've already advised family members in the area to steer clear. OpenTable's review of this restaurant originally prompted me to go there. I wish them luck .. they need it.

    Probably the worse food I ate in the North end. After spending$$$. Drinks were very good although we had to ask if we could get a cocktail and then had to wait. The wine we chose was also very good. Our waiter was very nice but seemed to be serving many tables and was not available when we needed him. My Italian mother in-law ordered the Putenesca which traditionally has anchovies in it. She said there were no anchovies in the sauce so we asked if we could get a small plate of them. Our waiter checked with the kitchen and came back to informed us they were all out. guessing this is why there were none in the sauce. She had a full plate of pasta which she took home with a plan to add anchovies This should have been credited as it was not what shed ordered. I ordered the tuna dish that was very underwhelming. the tuna was tough and the eggplant was chewy. l left some on my plate which was not worth bringing home. A real waste of money unfortunately.

    It's usually always good here. But their portions got much smaller than I remembered. Plus I felt like we're a bit rushed. In the middle of our dinner the waiter was asking us if we wanted dessert.

    Our second time dining here and it was just as wonderful. Excellent staff/service, delicious drinks, phenomenal food! They modified one of the appetizers to make it a meal for us and it was fabulous. Definitely a favorite place of ours!

    We've been to Assaggio several times. It's got good service and a nice atmosphere, but food always comes first for us and it continues to be excellent. We skipped pasta (a specialty of Assaggio) on this visit because we don't eat beef or pork and didn't see anything in the pasta offerings that we wanted. We got the salmon and a mixed seafood in tomato sauce dish and both were excellent. Assaggio is one of our North End favorites and it didn't disappoint this time! The prices have, however, increased and there is hardly anything in the North End that I would call a bargain. Also, I miss the outdoor dining, but I'm afraid that ship has sailed away for the North End, which has considerable fire safety issues (narrow streets!) and just couldn't make it work. But we will definitely come back to Assaggio.

    The food should be better. While the theme is supposed to be Positano, the dishes are not authentic. Pasta Amatriciana is not from the south, and was made with smoked bacon rather than pancetta, and pasta was a bit overdone. The eggplant caponata was simply chopped eggplant parm over bread - not anything like caponata. Veal Milanese ( again, not the least bit from the coast) was not great. Also the cocktail order took a long time - restaurants should realize that speedy drink service can lead to a second drink order!

    Always good authentic Italian food slightly off the beaten path of Hanover Street in the North End, but just around the corner from cannolis at Mike's Pastry or the Modern. Excellent service from our server and the manager, who comped our dessert when he found out we had gotten engaged there 12 years ago! We will continue to celebrate our anniversary there.

    Osso Bucco was dry and flavorless. Not a menu for dairy intolerant. Pasta dishes nothing special. Loved the short ribs. Attentive service and good cocktails.

    We went for an early dinner so it was quiet. Staff were attentive and the food was yummy. I am on a gluten free diet and they were very helpful in directing my choices. I had short ribs on polenta. Delicious!

    Ate at bar and sat with empty water glass for 10 mins. Bartender didn’t know the specials or that Assaggio had a catch of the day. Bartender broke 3 glasses while there. Meatball app used to be 3 now they are 2/3 the size and only 2 with an increased price tag. Food was not the usual quality - raviolis were al dente in some places and overcooked in others and no longer large and pillowy. Gone are the days of the complimentary limoncello finish. Very disappointed. No hurry to return.

    Date night with my wife. We sat in the basement level between two groups of six. I ordered the nicest bottle of wine on the menu. They brought us the wrong bottle twice only to find out they didn't have the wine we ordered. They tried to charge us the price of the wine we ordered. We ordered the house salad, the pizza, and the chicken parm. All staples at a North End restaurant and food that we eat often. All below average. This restaurant group has many restaurants in the North End and in Boston. Aqua Pazza and Mare are two good ones that I would return to. Not this one.

    Booked this restaurant excited to try the menu and a new place in the North End. They brought us to the second floor which was loud with club music - not at all the ambiance of the North End or a fine Italian restaurant. We felt so out of place and thought it was because we were on the second floor; however, as we walked out we peeked into the first floor and it was the same dance club music. So unfortunate. Makes sense after 10pm but certainly not earlier. And if that’s your vibe - say that. Don’t let people down.

    I love the food at Assagio, and appreciate the friendly staff. Only complaint is the throbbing disco/club music that they pump into the dining room at all hours. Whoever makes the decisions on atmosphere/ ambience is missing the mark. We asked fellow diners if they liked the music and they all said “no!”
