Captain Melville is Melbourne's oldest serving pub, and pays homage to the infamous rebel bushranger with great beer, good chat and top notch pub grub.

The drinks list features local wines and a seasonal selection of Aussie beer (with some international visitors), with a tap list to suit every taste and some more alternative brews by the can or stubby - for the beer lover in all of us.

The menu features your favourite classics like burgers, steaks and parmas, as well as some Asian specialities.
There are plenty of options for communal snacking, and all produce is sourced from sustainable Victorian farms in the regions traversed by Melville himself.

From the old, bluestone front bar to the light-filled, communal dining hall, as well as a late night cocktail bar, there are numerous spaces for group celebrations of all shapes and sizes.

I picked the Captain Melville as being good for a group dinner, the only downside is not having split billing. This is a thing that is ridiculously easy to facilitate these days so while it's my only disappointment, it's a significant one. I note the current process also impacts on how many drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) I order because while food is table service, drinks are not. Please consider a change to this process - I really do enjoy bringing groups to this pub, it's an otherwise perfect location.

Dear Juanita, thanks for the review! And we'd like to update with you that we are able to do split bills now! Our venue is a little more difficult than others to do it since the Blue Stone walls block the internet in our Dining Area and it certainly affects our system. We have worked hard on this in order to make it easier for our guests this year, and finally, we made it! We are looking forward to having you back again :)

The food was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. Special mention to the Irish guy that worked there - super friendly and knowledgeable :)

Hands down the best chicken Chicken Parma out there!! Brought my mates out for Trivia Night and they absolutely loved it. Back soon! :)

Not impressed! I suggested Cpt Melville for lunch with a group of work colleagues. When we got there it was packed at the bar - I guess people where ordering meals ? We did wait a while but it wasn't quick so I admit I jumped in and asked the guy behind the bar about our reservation. I made the reservation about 2 hrs before but the bar staff said I hadn't and showed me a bit of paper that had reservation names written on it , my name wasn't on it so he dismissed me. If I wasn't with work colleagues I would have walked out but I persisted and showed him my confirmation on my ph. After serving quite a few other people at the bar he eventually showed us to a table in the bar section where I'd booked but was still really rude about it. We ended up sitting in the dining area where the service was good so was the food (super noisy thought) Sorry but what's the point of offering bookings if you not going to keep up to date with them. Everything else was great but your bar staff man let you down badly. I won't bring work colleagues here again and i wouldn't recommend it. He might have been busy but there's no excuse for being rude to customers or for saying they lied about having a booking. Wendy

We were happy with our meals, we all selected 3 different entree and each of us had different mains so we got to see and taste the variety there was and we loved all of them. The waitress was very nice and friendly she spoke clear and politely and memorized all our meals. We all said we would can't Wait to go again.

Great for trivia. Well set up. Good service from staff who changed me from a smelly table near the toilets to a central table. Tasty meals especially the lamb ragout and the special Parma for just $15 on our trivia night. Perfect ambience and table separation for trivia. An all-round good night out

Great local vibe to meet-up with Uni mates and friends to enjoy yummy food, drinks. Staff were confident and helpful.

consistently tasty and quick food. keep an eye out for the specials, they're worth a look, but the main menu fare is great.
