   Our food was cold, luke warm at best. Service was poor -one waitress arrived with a started and said she didn’t know what it was!! It was risotto. We queried the beef fat chips with the vegan meal and were told that’s what it came with. Guests should receive 10% off the bill I queried this and ‘Happiness’ just said they didn’t do it anymore. It is still on the advertising!! Just completely lack lustre experience.

   Lovely room, helpful, friendly serving staff. Nicely presented afternoon tea, good selection of sandwiches, we had vegetarian option, tasty scone and good selection of cakes. Tea and coffee unlimited.

   Aweful! There was far too much mustard with the ham, it burned your nose! No butter on the sandwiches and used crust ends! The gluten free bread is dry anyway so really needed butter on it. The desserts didn't seem thought about especially the gluten free other then the browine there were 3 unflavoured dry sponges that were unappealing. The only good thing about it was the scones, the gluten free in particular was delicious.

   Booked afternoon tea here as a treat for my mum. Decor was very nice and staff were very attentive and friendly. It was mid week, so a few other tables in but not too busy. The afternoon tea was nice, especially the scones. We ordered a glass of champagne each too which was delicious. If you’re looking for a very traditional afternoon tea it hits the spot. However if you’re looking for something a bit more creative and special there are a few other places in town that make it more of an event. Because of this I did think it was a bit expensive, but everything they did was good so we would go back, and recommend to others.

   When the menu is quite limited it is important that all selections are available. This was not the case when we dined. The fat on our duck breast should have been cooked for longer although the flavour was acceptable. My second choice a ribeye steak was quite well flavoured and tender but the peppercorn sauce was poor and the tomato and mushroom ‘garnish’ cold. Both house wines very pleasant. Have often eaten better for less.

   Staff all very friendly and looked after us :-) Chef warmed up our babies food and the food was very good quality! Loved all the accompaniments to the Sunday roast!

   The initial reception was somewhat frosty; we arrived slightly for our table and were told to go away and wait! On being seated, the food and service were good, but no sign of the "unlimited" Yorkshire puddings!

    The meal was spoiled as one of the starters came out ages after the other 4 had received theirs. Then one of the mains came out ages after the other 4, so our mains were cold by the time the 5 of us could eat together!! I mentioned it but they couldn’t care less. I had mentioned upon booking that it was my daughter’s 21st Birthday but it wasn’t acknowledged, surly a bit of effort could have been made on someone’s special occasion. A very disappointing meal/atmosphere and level of service.

    What a fabulous evening, wonderful food, well cooked and presented to excellent, friendly and accommodating wait staff, special mention to Liz who took time to search for bars in town for us, thank you. Would definitely recommend.

    Excellent value for money for Sunday lunch. Fabulous food & so much of it, served piping hot. Wonderful Victorian, grand dining room. My only criticism was it was a little cold which made it uncomfortable. We would certainly eat there again as would our guests

    SO overpriced afternoon tea. Cannot believe I paid nearly £70 for 1 tower and 2 glasses of champagne. There was 8 TINY finger sandwiches, 2 scones and a few cakes. For two. I nearly passed out paying the bill. Loved the hotel but the price of afternoon tea ruined it!

    Maybe introduce nibbles like artisan bread with Olive oil.. Prosecco was warm yesterday and not a full glass but barman didn’t want to know!! Food was divine and tasty though xx

    Terrible experience! Wrong wine brought and plonked on table not even opened . Food order was wrong then staff abruptly picked up the food whilst I was actually eating! My husband had to ask for a manger to complain who did to his credit wave the charge for dinner but picked up my plate and told my husband he’d return for his plate then didn’t and wasn’t seen again. Restaurant was freezing cold and faulty towers came to mind! Next morning at breakfast was approached by a man who had similar experience in restaurant.

    Service extremely slow - took 45 mins to bring water to the table let alone drinks. Food was over an hour and had to chase twice. When it did arrive was undercooked and Luke warm. The barman brought drinks over to our table that we hadn’t ordered and argued that they had been allocated to our table. Turned out they were for the table next to us. However, we were charged for them on our bill ! Overall very disappointing, slow service, cold food, and incompetent staff !

    This restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Lovely peaceful surroundings and food is lovely and very good value. Staff are lovely and attentive and nothing is too much for them,if they couldn’t answer a question about the food,they found someone who could.Overall a fine dining experience,would highly recommend.

    Lovely calm service. Nice atmosphere good food. Prefer to Betty’s. We find Betty’s cramped and noisy switch average service because they ran too many people in the room. This was total opposite and lovely food too.

    I ordered the chicken supreme which came with a small amount of jue underneath the veg. The chicken was dry and overcooked. My partner has an allergy to garlic and was told that all the sauces came with garlic in them. So she had a plain chicken breast which like mine was dry. We were told that the chef wouldn't be able to make a garlic free sauce. Being a chef myself and my partner has run hotels we both know how easy it is to make a simple mushroom sauce which would have transformed both meals. The deserts weren't much better, the chocolate brownie was served cold and the majesticbockerglory was just frozen fruit and a scoop of ice cream. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody

    We were given a voucher for an afternoon tea to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. We had never been before and we were not disappointed. The staff we came into contact with from reception to waitress were very helpful and friendly. The waitress particularly was very pleasant. There was a good choice of food and plenty for an afternoon tea for two, with the added bonus of two glasses of fizz and unlimited tea/coffee.The fizz was nicely chilled. Along with lovely quiet surroundings, we would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back again. Thank you.

    We stayed at the hotel and ate at Carters. The service was excellent with lovely friendly staff that made you feel welcome. The food was absolutely delicious with a good selection of food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant

    The dining room was light, warm and extremely welcoming. The staff attentive, but not over the top - very professional. The Sunday Lunch was a gift to my husband and I from a friend, but looking at the Menu, it was exceptionally good value. The food was served on hot plates, which is always a bonus, and all three courses were plentiful and delicious. We shall certainly return.

    Starters came 50 minutes after arriving in a half empty room, though it was Sunday. Lovely food, cooked just right but over casual staff - didn’t match the style of the restaurant. Uncomfortable seating - bring your own cushion as there’s none anywhere.

    The elegant Edwardian setting oozed class, the food very good but the service was the ‘weak link’! Bottle of Sparkling water left on the table which I ended up opening and pouring for ourselves- this was an example. We had stayed at the Majestic for the weekend.

    Some work to do to create an ambience. The inside is really nice and it works ok as a hotel restaurant but that’s it. Lighting need to be dimmer. We had chateuabriand, it was ok, I’ve had better though in other steak houses.

    Very relaxing atmosphere, although it was Sunday evening. The menu is short but good, we had trouble deciding which mains to have. The food (venison) was delicious and the service not rushed but attentive and very friendly.
