We serve the same food from the same Kitchen in the Restaurant and Bistro, but there is a more informal environment in the Bistro, and a slightly different format for the menus. There is also a Special Bargain Table d’Hôte menu in the Bistro at £17.50 for two courses and £22.50 for three courses, which is particularly popular. Lunch is available from 12 noon – 2:00pm and dinner from 7:00pm – 9:30pm every day. All Bistro menus can be served OUTSIDE, when the weather permits, and there is no nicer spot in which to eat than around the pond at Corse Lawn. Bliss! The Bistro is usually busy with a very buzzy atmosphere, and it is advisable to book to ensure we have a table. There is a full Bar within the Bistro area, and we provide a shortened version of our renowned wine list as well.

Came here based on the TripAdvisor recommendations. My wife ordered off the prix fixe menu and I ordered off the à la carte. For starters my sea bream was superb, if somewhat disappointing in size but my wife received a tasty pheasant dish that was almost a main course in size. Both presented very well. As a main, the beef cheeks were amazing and my wife continued the game theme with venison. The venison main did suffer from the problem that it was smaller than her pheasant starter, but was cooked well in a flavoursome gravy. For puddings the creame brûlée was good and the cheese board had a large collection cheese, beyond what was advertised on the menu. All in £90 well spent including a 17% tip and wine. Would recommend.

this is a beautiful restaurant that always when we have been gets it right beautiful food excellent service in a lovely old fashion building we think the best in Gloucester worth booking

A meal with friends. Highlights included Ox tongue starter and Beef Cheeks main course. The partridge was nicely cooked and great flavour. A request for extra vegetables was not a problem. We enjoyed our evening thank you.

Booked as part of a two night stay at the hotel. The booking arrangements were good and there was a lounge outside the bistro to have a drink whilst selecting from the menu. Service and food were really good. A most enjoyable and relaxed meal.

I was staying in the hotel and eating alone.Despite having booked for 7.30pm it was after 8pm before I was seated. A party arriving as I did at 7.20pm without a booking were seated immediately and served quickly. The owner (I think) took orders and chatted to others in the bar, while I tried and failed to attract attention. I felt this was due to a lack of respect for lone diners. Once I succeeded in attracting one of the waitresses attention, the food and the rest of the service was fine, but by then I was annoyed and uncomfortable (and late for my evening plans), I often travel alone and treating single women with equal consideration is an important criterion for me in judging restaurants.
