El Grotto is a good times bar & taqueria in Scarborough beach. We are a celebration of Mexico’s vibrant culture & rich flavours, bringing a slice of mex into Scarborough! Our menu is packed with all the Mex favourites like tacos, tostadas, and beachside snacks, always made in-house using fresh, local produce. Our back bar is filled independent agave straight from Mexico and cocktails are always delicious & seasonal with the classic Tommy's Margarita a crowd favourite!

I had heard amazing things about El Grotto so booked a table for myself and my partner. Drove 1/2 an hour to get there to discover they were closed. Disappointed! I don’t want to leave a bad review as I haven’t been there yet (and still want to go) but maybe update the booking preferences!

Our first time staying in Scarborough & so glad we chose El Grotto to eat at. "Highly recommend this place" On arrival we were greeted by the door security who politely directed me to the bar for our booking. The ambience was a relaxed pub/night bar/jazzy-funk music vibe, a good place to start for a night out. Bar staff took us to our table however it was a bit crowded & they accommodated our request to change, very happy we did. Our drinks we ordered were sooo good & the food was Tapas style menu which was the yummiest Mexican food we have eaten - so delicious....we will come back when we visit Scarborough again.

The food here is always so good, and the drinks are also delicious. Super super busy for taco Tuesday, but the staff were on it and we had a great time.

Burrito was bland, all the served chips were cold, tacos bland and could make nicer at home with an El Paso kit.

Mixed feelings about our evening here. First impressions - very busy when we arrived and very noisy. Possibly our fault for not doing enough research to realise there would be DJ playing music while we were there. The music volume did make conversation difficult. We booked for a group of 9 (10 of us attended in the end) and were allocated 2 booths - so in effect splitting our group in half. Not ideal. In the end we all sat in one booth and although it was squeezy, it was preferable to being two smaller groups. Ordering drinks and food at the bar was a process and a half. Each time any of our group ventured to the bar they had quite a wait ahead of them. Not knocking the staff - who were working very hard - but the process was tiresome. Why doesn't El Grotto have QR codes on their tables, like so many other businesses do? After placing my order, I realised that the staff member had failed to include one dish; so I had to go up a second time to order food. Thankfully one of the servers was able to assist me in a timely manner. We actually found all staff to be friendly and helpful, but somewhat stretched by the competing demands of providing drinks, food, clearing tables, attending to queries, etc. This was most noticeable when our server came to our table twice to check whether we had received all of our dishes - surely their system should allow them to know when every dish has been served. The food was okay. Not great - not terrible - just okay. Prices are okay too, but maybe charging $12 for half a Quesadilla is a bit much. The most disappointing aspect of the evening for me and my son was that by the time our food orders were delivered, every other member of our group had well and truly finished their meals. Ideally we would have all received our orders around the same time. It is always good to try a new dining option, but I don't think we'll be back.

We heard really good things about the food and happy hour margarita special but we were very disappointed and underwhelmed. Found the margs to be probably the worst we’ve ever had, coming ungarnished, over iced and no salt rim. Understand it’s a special but could still be way better. The food was incredibly bland, had fish tacos and the ceviche which had no flavours, presented poorly and tiny serving. The staff weren’t welcoming nor provided a good atmosphere, not a friendly or accommodating venue. Overall wouldn’t recommend for a Mexican night mi
