We were celebrating two birthdays with friends. Emmitt was our waiter and he was excellent! We enjoyed everything- cocktails, starters, entrees, wine and desserts. My only suggestion would be to lower the lights a little. Seemed kind of bright for evening ambiance. We will return!

The atmosphere - decor, artwork, music - is great and conducive to a lovely evening. The Restaurant Manager, Hunter, and the sommelier were great, giving thoughtful suggestions and making us feel very special. The smoked salmon app, beet salad and scallops were wonderful. The chicken was a little dry. Our mains were brought when we were still working on our salads/apps, so the timing was a little off. Overall, a lovely experience that we will repeat soon.

We attended prior to a theatre event and were offered a Prix Fixe Theatre option (all members of the party must order this). The food was delicious, the staff was prompt and considerate of our time. The space is light and lovely.

The entrees were awful. The chicken was dry and the pasta was chewy. The service was good and friendly, but they seriously need to improve the entrees.

This recommended dining experience before a show was average at best. The service was attentive, but the food left much to be desired for this price point. The highly touted meatball appetizer was nothing special. The scallop dish was very good. The pasta dish with added shrimp was 1. bland, 2. luke warm and 3. served sous vide shrimp that were lightly saute to give minimal char. Our apple crisp was reheated and barely warm. The restaurant gave us a new dessert and comped the dessert. There are much better dining experiences in the symphony, Winspear area to choose from.

We went to Ellie’s for brunch. Open Table allowed us to book brunch. Ellie’s has no brunch. Since our reservation was for 11:00, we could only have lunch from their lackluster lunch menu. The bar was closed - as in no one manning it at all. So, no mimosas or bloody marys, much less anything more festive. The water didn’t even have ice. It was a boring little lunch in a pretty space. Our waiter kept asking us if we “needed help with the menu.” Since the most exotic item listed was a Cobb Salad, I assumed she was offering to get us something off menu. When I asked if we could get anything other than what was on the menu, she said no, but she could explain the menu. That was as good as it got. We won’t be back.
Terrible flat iron steak.
We were fairly underwhelmed with our experience at Ellie's. While we were disappointed, there is definitely a potential that exists. We're not rushing back, but also not writing it off.
The good: extremely convenient if you're seeing a show at the Meyerson or Winspear. It's very clean, well designed, well lit, and has a cool ambiance. It was a little dead, but we expected this because we were eating early, and it had grown busier by the time we left. The live music was a nice touch during our meal. If we try it again it will probably be in the bar area, and not the full dining room.
The not-so-good: the overall service was lacking and the food was just OK. Nothing terrible, just a handful of small things that all added up to underwhelming compared to other similarly hyped and priced restaurants. The biggest issue was our table. We had a reservation and were essentially the first guests in the dining room. Why we were seated at the worst possible table that shouldn't even exist is beyond me. The table is right next to the servers stand - and I mean right next to it - I felt like there was constantly someone standing over me while I was trying to enjoy my dinner. The table itself was also too small even for only two people, and pushed right up against the window. Pretty uncomfortable. We ordered a bottle of wine, and waited. We got our meatball appetizer (not bad, not great) before it came. Our server (who was friendly and attentive) finally let us know they did not have the bottle we ordered. We ordered a second. After another wait, we were told they didn't have our second option. We selected a third, and eventually got it right before our entrees came. They "cleared" our table to make room for the plates, meaning the meatball plate was lifted over my head and sat behind me on the servers stand where it stayed until we left. Both entrees were bland. The "double cut" pork chop was not double cut. It was tiny. The salmon was good, but the sides were lacking.
The restaurant is very noisy making it difficult for conversations with my table mates. The piano is too much

Have been 5 times. Service is next to awful. Missed orders, slow service, wrong orders every time!
No wonder the place is empty. Ill give it 90 days then try again. After that move on.
Staff needs training desperately. Are these high school kids? Joking, yelling across the room because there are only three tables with diners? No regard for service.
The hotel service (we were not guests of the hotel) and head waiter/seating service were exceptional. There was lovely live music (but not too loud for the environment). Our food was exceptional and the Chef waled around to speak with guests to ask them how their meals were. The wait staff was slow to refill glasses (part of that could be my issue as we had recently gotten off a plane and were parched) and our waittress did not bring my drink order. She was, however, quite courteous in other aspects and explained some of the menu items that my companion had asked questions about. I would certainly go back, they had not been open that long and I imagine the service will smooth out as everyone gets settled. When we walked in, doors were opened, the lady at the front desk walked us to the elevator, explained where the restaurant was within the hotel and even pressed the elevator button for the correct floor. Superb service! The head waiter that greeted us was so very welcoming and most certainly set the mood for evening by providing superb service as well. There are lots of items on the menu that appealed and it was quite difficult to make a decision. I truly believe anything on the menu would be exceptional due to the Chef's attention to detail.
Had dinner there Thursday evening. They were not very busy. Observations:
Hostess did not make eye contact and mumbled. (more focused on the task than the people)
The table was not ready. They put two tables together while we awkwardly stood there. Service was very slow and unresponsive. No wait staff to the table for at least 10 minutes after arrival. Ordered and paid for 8 ounces of wine and got only 4 ounces. Incorrect food order arrived at the table which left only one of us with food for 10 minutes. Empty dishes left on the table for 10 minutes. Salad portions were extremely small. Had to ask manager for our bill.
Overall a very poor experience for a place of this caliber. Very disappointing. Will not return and will advise friends of the poor experience.
The food was good but the music was so loud we had to ask for it to be turned down and were still yelling at our table. It took over half an hour for our drinks to arrive. The staff were friendly and I think with some more time under operation the restaurant will improve these items.

We arrived shortly before our 9:15pm reservation. We were seated quickly. Our appetizers were good, however our main issue was with our entrees. By 10:15pm we were still waiting for our food. We decided to get the check and leave. Nobody came to apologize to us. Our server said that the kitchen was very busy and that was all we got. I don’t think that we will be going back.

Ellie's servers are new in this new restaurant and made mistakes on several of our orders. Food was ok but not great.
Really loved the place. Ellies is more of a causal dining experience rather than a super fine dining spots. The restaurant is small and more intimate. The food was wonderful too. Definitely a hidden gem and the staff was very friendly and accommodating!

We were very disappointed with the portion size at breakfast and that all sides, which are very small as well, were ala carte. The food tasted OK, but nothing special, especially for the price.
On the good side, we had the feeling we were out of town even though we go to that area all the time. If you are looking to compete with the established restaurant experiences in Dallas, that's always tough for a newcomer. Menu was extremely limited. Service timing was not worked out yet; the entrees came out before we finished with salads, and the bread came out last.?? Had to ask twice for the drink order which came out at dessert time. We were literally in and out in less than an hour. Room for improvement and I'm sure they will start making use of the wonderful patio area outside very soon.
Everything about the evening was awful. The room is so bright and not conducive to a relaxing evening. The service was AWFUL. Waited at least 10 minutes before we had to ask for a glass of wine( the restaurant) was not full. The menu was lacking. It was the night after Valentines and so also had a special menu. We were told there were no side dishes because of this.
After dinner we were offered dessert and waiter told us two things that they had. We ordered both and when he brought them he said oops it was Cherry not apple. They were both horrible. Will not be going back or recommending.
The food was very good and would have been excellent if my steak had been cooked medium rare as I ordered. The only problem that I noticed was coordination between the waiter and kitchen.

A really beautiful resaturant and decor.
The food is wonderful, everything from appetizers to entrees were very delicious.
The service is lacking severely. Nice wait staff but clueless on knowledge of menu and wines. Asked for a sommelier and waiter wasn’t sure if there was one. Once he remembered they did have a sommelier, he said he couldn’t find him.
Overall a major disconnect with waiters and dining experience here.

They just have some work to do to make it feel more comfortable. The nice guy playing the violin. No one was paying attention to him which must suck for the musician. We were right next to him and it was very distracting. They need to up their sophistcation level and make it feel more smooth and laid back, they are trying too hard. The food was good.
Walked in and fell in love with the beautiful modern feel. Cocktails were great. Then we sat down at our table... waited nearly 10 minutes to get water and a wine list... another 10 minutes and finally we got to order wine... the little waiting game went on the whole night. The food was delicious, but the lack of hospitality and service was lacking and for that reason, do not care to return. XO
We're excited to have another restaurant in the Arts District; we need good places to go before a 7:30p performance. Ellie's is beautiful, and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. But I think Ellie's is working through some things because they are so new. Service was a bit uneven - we had to remind the wait person that we had ordered drinks, and we really didn't have time to relax with them before dinner came. The scallops were very good, but the pappardelle dish was underwhelming. The attention we received from Hunter saved the day.
We will return, but after a while; hopefully kinks will be ironed out.
