At Gertie’s, we believe in preserving tradition while embracing fresh ideas. Founded in 2010 by Gary Held and Beth Gross, Gertie’s has been a cornerstone of the Clarence Center community for over 14 years. The name, inspired by Beth’s grandmother, reflects the warmth, charm, and classic flavors that have made this spot a beloved neighborhood destination.

In 2024, Gertie’s entered an exciting new chapter with its acquisition by local entrepreneurs Josh Cohen and Tony Galbo, who have deep roots in the food and hospitality industry. In 2025, Gertie's welcomed Chef So Kimura, who brings his experience at Buffalo favorites, Bacchus, Left Bank, and Hutches. Under their leadership of Josh, Tony, and So, Gertie’s has undergone subtle enhancements, from a refreshed menu blending timeless favorites with new creations to updates in décor and seasonal outdoor dining options. Every decision is made with the goal of honoring Gertie’s history, our loyal customers and the Clarence Center community.

Gertie’s was closed despite having a reservation. No formal notice of any kind on the outside. Doors locked and lights off. The next day I saw on Facebook that they are closed until further notice. Very disappointing.

From the moment we stepped in to the moment we left, everything was amazing! Was celebrating our anniversary and asked for a cozy table. They put us by the window and had fresh flowers for us. Our server and his trainee were wonderful. One of the owners came by to check on us and wish us a happy anniversary. Gertie's will definitely be our top go to place from now on! Can't wait for cooler weather to sit on the patio and enjoy a fire or just stop by for a drink at the bar!

Lovely restaurant and nice patio seating. However food and service were subpar. Servers were nice and helpful, however we're infrequently present at the tables outside. I ordered a steak medium rare, it came out very rare with no char marks on it, and seasoning was minimal. They did give us an app on the house for something not being available on the menu. However, overall for the price did not meet the experience for me.

Lovely servers and very attentive. Good sized portions and the food was good. We sat outside on the patio which would have been wonderful except the bees and flies were obnoxious. The staff made evey effort to alleviate that as well.

Beautiful spot in beautiful Calrrnce Center! Great server. Nice happy hour specials. Food was great!

Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the Salmon, Jasmine Rice and Carrots. Confirmed it was Gluten Free. Dish came with mashed potatoes and gravy. I had to ask if that was gluten free gravy! No! They took it away and gave me plain broccoli (barely cooked). If I wouldn’t have asked, I’d have gotten very, very sick. I also asked why potatoes when the dish was supposed to come with jasmine rice. They were “out” of it and never acknowledged this at ordering. Then took it upon themselves to substitute something with gluten in it on a gluten free order. They did adjust the check but based on that along with the other mediocre food that everyone else had, we will not be back nor would I recommend.

We had high hopes for returning back here. First, part of my husband’s steak dinner was forgotten. It was supposed to come with a side salad, however, we never received it. We saw the waitress 3 times total, and weren’t even able to get a steak knife for the steak dinner. The quality of the food was disappointing for the price it is being charged. The outdoor patio is very nice and great cocktails.

Disappointed in food quality vs prior ownership. Happy hour old fashioned was weak. We were told they were out of a happy hour item (swordfish tacos) only after another dinner arrived. I was done eating before alternate choice arrived. Brussels Sprouts were barely cooked. Sent back and they came back hotter but still not cooked much. Seems they just put in the microwave. Dining room still very echoing/ noisy. That said the fish fry was very good though better value fish fry options available. We may not return for a while.
