Guavas Cuban Cafe
Reminds me of home cooking of my abuela. I will return.
I will choose the "sanguiches" (any of them), the "ropa vieja", "vaca frita", "tamal con lechon" this is a must, "chicharron de pollo"
Love the food, drinks and desserts here, especially the coratdito! I had the veggie hash as well; love the sauces. Neighborhood gem! Easy in/out with ordering at the counter.
Awesome! Great food and friendly staff. And the best Cuban coffee I have had since I was in Miami!
Love this place, I grew up eating Latino dishes like this (not Cuban) and the food is very good and authentic. Of course it has an Americanized flare but that’s on the customers not the restaurant. Can’t make everyone happy
Great food at extremely reasonable prices, with friendly service, in a comfortable space. Excellent ceviche (many local restaurants don't get this dish right), tasty maduros (wish there were more to a serving), and the entrees were fabulous, too. Not only that, they have a wonderful flan (another dish lots of restaurants don't do well) and a decent wine and cocktails list. Heads up: you order at the counter and the servers bring the food to your table when it's cooked. Not a big deal; just something to know. LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!
food is amazing, the staff is not super energetic tho and they had no pastelitos which is a little disappointing. I think it is a bit pricey, as when I visit my family in Puerto Rico the food is much much cheaper for the same stuff, taste, etc. Spent $40 on 2 meals but in PR we probably would have spent like $15-$20 total however I do recognize that the ingredients are harder to come by here in MN and since there is no other local bodegas and panaderias there is little competition for prices. I definitely will be back tho
Awesome!!! Tasty food and good music in the afternoons!
Delicious! We’ll be back soon
The food was well prepared and very tasty. We were a party of 6 and had a variety of Cuban dishes on their patio. A live band was playing inside which added to the experience. Desserts were reasonably priced and the flan was excellent! We plan to return to try more menu items. I highly recommend Guavas!
This place is vibrant, full of life, and a brilliant addition to the restaurant scene. Music is LOUD, dancing and musicians performing may break out... but if you are up for some fun and tasty plates of good food served hot and fresh than look no further! Guava's swings it! Thx for a great evening!
Love the live music!
Great afternoon on the patio! Love the Brunch menu.
Wonderful tasting, lots of good food for great value, Cuban food is delicious.
I recommend Guavas as an appealing casual dining experience with excellent Cuban food. It's reasonably price and a good value. They have outside dining on a roomy front patio, but beware that there can be very loud airplane noise as they are located directly under the approach path for the airport. Of course, that's beyond their control, but it's a consideration if you want to eat outside and carry on a conversation.
Excellent food, good prices, music way too loud for such a small space. Had to yell at my dining companions. The person taking our order misheard our order because of loud music and brought wrong food to 2 out of 4 of us!
The Cubano sandwich is to die for. Such great food and definitely worth the price. Very filling as well
Always a good time at Guava.
The vibe is great.
Friday night music is a bonus and the dancers are so fun to watch.
You can't beat the energy in this neighborhood gem.
Fresh and fabulous.
When working in South Florida, we developed a taste for Cuban Cuisine. Finding Guavas Cuban Cafe in Minneapolis was a happy occurrence. The food reflects everything we love about Cuban cuisine and adds a few subtle bits that take the food up another notch. If you love Cuban food or want to try it, Guavas will not disappoint.
The shrimp with coconut sauce was excellent- shrimp perfectly cooked and sauce very tasty. The pork in the Lechon rice bowl was so flavorful and tender. I wish the rice and beans were cooked with more herbs and spices. Both were lackluster. A cute place with great drink options and comfortable indoor and outdoor seating.
Other than a temporary lack of protein supply for the night, we enjoyed the experience!
Like many restaurants today, they are being stretched to provide a good experience at the same time they lack wait staff, and kitchens aren't working as well as they should. All of that is true at Guavas, but they also were compromised by not having many of the beers that they listed on their menu, nor any chips for the ceviche. The quality of what they delivered was compromised -- the use of ham sandwich meat along with the pulled pork in the Cubano, Sangria that seemingly had no alcohol, and a huge bowl of ceviche with nothing to eat it with. While the atmosphere was modest, it could have been greatly improved my dusting the spider webs out from under the wait station, the tables could have been wiped down more thoroughly and the plants used in the decor could be moved so the leaves weren't laying on top of my head (and I'm only 5'4"). All of this -- two sandwiches, ceviche and two drinks for $60 + tip. I won't be going back.
Delicious shrimp bowl with coconut sauce and plantains! Always pleasant atmosphere and service.
Always a five-star experience here!! I tried a new item and loved it and can’t wait to go back and try more!
The food was amazing the staff was wonderful and the prices were reasonable
Excellent food with indoor and an outdoor patio option.
Great food, comfortable patio, live music, friendly.
Very casual atmosphere. Great food! Very friendly and helpful staff!
The food and service are above par. We have come back to Guavas twice now! The food is fresh and a great portion size. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We will keep this place on our standard rotation of great places to eat in MPLS!
Took my Cuban mother there for brunch on Sunday. Both she and my dad loved it! Sangria was delicious and all of our food was great! We will be back!
I was unaware that this was a counter service restaurant so was surprised to encounter that upon arrival. Their inability to open a tab was an inconvenience. The table we were seated at did not have tableware or napkins where other tables had a central container holding those items. Our shared entree came and we had to ask for plates. The food tasted good but seemed overpriced for the small portions.
So good! Several people had told me to go here and they were right. The whole table was thrilled with the food
Great food, as always; Shrimp, Lechon and Chicken bowls were outstanding. Disappointed that 8 menu items had run out. Hoping that this an aberration due to the long weekend and folks returning to in-house dining!
First time there, I was very surprised I actually could eat stuff from the menu. I don't eat pork so it was amazing to be able to enjoy Cuban food. AMAZING!
The food was very good, though less rice would be better. The young women at the counter were nice and helpful with the descriptions of the menu items. I’m glad there was umbrellas out front, otherwise it would have been too hot to sit outside.
I overheard there was music and dancing on Friday night. What a great idea!
Great food and wine. Very cool artwork and music.
We spent a few hours here during an extended layover. The restaurant is in a nice quiet neighborhood not too far from the airport. It was the perfect oasis. We had apps, a couple drinks, lunch, and dessert. The staff was attentive, professional, and most importantly the food was absolutely incredible. Fresh ingredients and all the flavors blended nicely. Such a delicious variety. They have a nice patio outside too.
This is my second time at Guavas. The first time it was chaos and I hoped it was only because it had just opened. That being a few years ago, I thought maybe they would have gotten organized… we stood at the counter watching staff ignore our hungry gazes and when no one said hello we put our order in ourselves. No one helped us as they walked by us or in front of us as we quickly self taught ourselves their automated menu system. A while after we got back to our table, someone (who didn’t introduce themselves but we assumed was staff) said they were out of one of our purchased items. She asked who took our order - we told her no one did. She didn’t even looked surprised - This was disheartening. Not left with much of a choice, we said we’d take what she could give us. Two more times this happened. We still waited before our drinks arrived and when our food came, my rice was a cold mound… no one came and asked how our food was. My friends ordered desserts, it didn’t arrive, so they asked and we waited and waited. My rice was dry and barely room temperature, the rest was edible. We cleaned up our own plates and left. I was still hungry but didn’t feel like being ignored. Later we ate the desserts. Tres leches had so much cream on it we could barely find the actual cake. The cheesecake was creamy but not the best.
Such a fun night! Live music and dancing…& the food was lick-your-plate-clean great!
