At Hemmingway's Bistro the menu combines classic French dishes with the freshest Midwest ingredients.
The daily specials reflect the chef's love for fresh seafood. Using mostly East-coast seafood flown in from Boston daily, the chef creates dishes like wild mushroom-crusted halibut on horseradish whipped potatoes and roasted sea bass on Caussoulet beans.
There is also a Parisian seafood bar offering towers of Plateau de Fruit de Mer with fresh oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster.

    Our second visit. We had a mixed experience last night. Baked Brie--wonderful! White fish--extraordinary, fresh, flavorful. Chicken pot pie--a huge disappointment. The filling tasted like bland cream of chicken soup with very little chicken. Flavorless crust. Good presentation on the chicken pie but very poor taste. The staff was attentive apart from a little difficulty getting coffee with our dessert. Coffee was lukewarm. Having said that, we will try again, because there was enough good in the overall experience. Also, love the atmosphere. And the singer the first Wednesday night we were there was divine!

    We had a wonderful dinner, as always at Hemingways. We went there on a Monday night to take advantage of the Lobster Dinner Special and they were “out of the lobster,” which was code for “they never actually had any.” We arrived at 6:45 and we saw nobody eating any lobster. First world problems, of course…

    I miss the trial, which is no longer offered. As a vegetarian my options were fairly limited. The food was tasty and the service was great, and the ambience is excellent.

    Spectacular food excellent service and a wonderful selection of French wines by the glass at a reasonable price. We are never disappointed yesterday stopped by for the Monday/Tuesday lobster special. It was cooked perfectly. Started with the baked Brie and escargot with lots of crusty bread for dipping. Everyone had an entree they loved. Dessert was the fluffy chocolate mousse that we shared. This place is a gem!

    Excellent small restaurant. A 5-star experience. Especially appreciated the quiet atmosphere - for the first time in ages, we didn’t have to shout to carry on a conversation. Lovely place.

    While I’ve dined at Hemmingway’s for lunch and brunch, it has taken me years to come for dinner. What a mistake it was to wait! The restaurant is even cozier and more elegant at night. A perfect place to dine on a dark and chilly night. Service, as usual, is thoughtful and well paced. Lupe was absolutely excellent, as were the rest of the staff. Delicious food and cocktails, wonderful ambiance, and the added treat of Wednesday night jazz. Just the right volume. 10/10.

    Excellent menu and enjoyable meal but mine was not quite the “wow” meal I always expect. Soup a little salty for my taste and the au gratin potatoes a little burnt on the bottom. However my wife found her selections perfect. Still our special place to go!

    We had wonderful service, delicious food, and a warm, cozy, and welcoming ambiance. We arrived at 6:00, ate slowly, had great fun, and left at 9:30. We never felt hurried at all even though I believe the restaurant closed. Always one of my favorite places to go!

    Hemmingways is consistent: excellent food, smooth and non-intrusive service, ambience conducive to conversation, handsome interior with a zinc bar. It's where we go when we want a guarantee of a good night out. Feels like a Parisian neighborhood restaurant.

    The food is always delicious - lots of seafood choices, wonderful desserts. The service is outstanding as well. It's always a pleasure here. They don't rush you but are always very attentive. The atmosphere is charming as well.

    I had the champagne lobster for the first tme. It was not as flavorful as I expected and sauce a little too soupy. Everthing else however from the martini to the salads and my wifes cassoulet was up to Hemingway's high standards!!

    On this occasion back to the bistro, we came for Sunday Brunch. The atmosphere was one of approachable elegance and the service by Tom was very nice and he was very helpful in explaining the Brunch Menu options. The champagne which comes with the buffet or from the bar was very nice for a brunch drink if you like a dry brut. Unfortunately, for food itself was uneven for the price of this restaurant - or for any restaurant for that matter. The scrambled eggs as an entre were excellent, but the potatoes were dry and looked (and tasted) like they had come out of a frozen Ore Ida side dish box. At the buffet, the fruit was fresh enough while the seafood choices were again, uneven. The oysters and shrimp were good - if a bit over-chilled, while the crab legs were still partially frozen with the meat dry and stiff making them seem well past their best buy date. The salmon lox was very good while the mushroom quiche disappointed by being, again, overly chilled, stiff textured, blandly seasoned with a generic, and under baked crust. I did not eat the rest of my quiche. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was being let down on my favorite part of the meal, the desserts. I've learned not to order the profiteroles from the everyday menu because the choux pastry is always over baked causing it to be very hard to bite into. This time, the bunt cake was crumbly and dry, very dense and lacked any particular flavor one would expect from using excellent ingredients. The creme brulee custard was like something you would get served at a hotel conference room lunch. I decided to forgo the dry looking brownies. There's no excuse for bad desserts when you have the Broken Tart Bakery, Peterson's Ice Cream, and Firecake Donuts within a mile of the restaurant's delivery door. Overall, the great service, nice champagne, and pleasant surroundings made up for a lackluster meal that should be improved so as to not continue to embarrass the restaurant. Maybe they just had an off day?

    The food was phenomenal. The price for the brunch and what you get is bit pricey in my opinion. We went up to the buffet for dessert and they were out of the creme brulee. We did ask if there was any they could bring out and no one even came back to tell us they weren't going to serve anymore. Our server was really nice but a bit absent. Huge gaps of time between when we got there and we ordered and then when we got our food and he came and checked on us. That was a bit disappointing. I wish he had stopped by to check on us more than the one time and then to drop off a check. I would definitely go back but not sure if I'd go for brunch.

    We have gone there for at least 10 years and have always enjoyed our dinner. The French onion soup had no flavor, Fluke was good but very dry overcooked and the steak was an ok piece of meat. The salmon appetizer was very good.

    Lovely evening to linger over dinner outside. The smoked salmon with potato latke was delicious and my companion seemed to enjoy the cheese plate. Service was attentive and wine options are very good.

    We had a very enjoyable first dining experience at Hemmingway's Bistro. I don't think I ordered right (salmon sandwich was pretty mid), but my wife's quiche was excellent and so was my daughter's goat cheese salad. We'll definitely be back to sample other dishes!

    We have been here a number of times over the years, hosting dinner and lunch groups of up to eight and sometimes just my wife and I. Service is always extraordinary with wait staff that understands the menu and wine list. My wife would probably eat here every night if I won the lottery, but I understand that you need to buy a ticket to have a chance.
