Josephine Estelle is an osteria from James Beard Award-nominated chefs, Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman, and showcases their signature culinary style of combining the craft-centric philosophy of Italian cooking with flavors of the American South. Our seasonal menu--available daily for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch--offers a wide range of farm-fresh, regional ingredients, with a special emphasis on house-made pastas. Other popular dishes include our meatballs, Gulf fish, steak, chicken biscuit, beef tartare, and the famed John T Burger.

    The food and atmosphere were really good. The service was a little lacking. We sat for about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. For context, it was brunch time on Saturday and the restaurant was not busy at all. To start, we ordered drinks - a beer and a bloody mary; nothing elaborate. The food almost arrived before our drinks did. We also had to ask for silverware because there was none on the table we where seated at.

    Food was over salted. Sent it back and it took another half hour to get the new plate that was ordered and that was not good either. This was supposed to be a special dinner for us as it was our anniversary and the whole experience was terrible. The only thing good was the wine and the server. Will not go back.

    So loud that it was impossible to hear anything. Overbooked and undermanaged. Food, however, was excellent and the wait-staff were all trying. The hostess/booking process is broken. Large sections of the restaurant were vacant for the 1.5 hours we were there, but hostess couldn't move us from a "sun in your eyes" spot to another due to "tables being reserved." Who lets seating go unfilled during a crowed night because there's a party 1.5 hours later? My suggestion -- stay away on a weekend.

    We were a part y of 3 for lunch. We were informed that all of the pasta dishes, meatball dishes, and steak item were not available because of a leak in the ceiling in the kitchen. OUr server was not engaged at all with her job. There were only three parties in the entire restaurant for lunch. We waited at the host stand for at least five minutes before anyone approached us. When a guy did approach us he just asked what type of water we would like with our meal and then he left. We waited several more minutes to be seated. We will not return to this restaurant.

    Excellent ambiance. Great architecture, including bar back/shelving. Good food. My husband had the JE Hamburger which was on an English muffin with fried egg and very tasty. Served with skillet potatoes. I would ask to sub fries as potatoes are not noted on menu. His coffee was cold but replaced with hot upon asking. I had the country breakfast which is eggs, bacon, biscuit and skillet potatoes. Good flavor. Not hot, though. But the bacon was extra crisply as requested. Our waitress brewed decaf just for me. When I asked for second cup, she made us both go cups as we’d finished eating by the time it was served. Nice jazz trio (Or Shovaky Plus) and piped in house music when band took breaks. Waitress apologized for slow service noting they were short handed. She said she would normally have taken better care of us but they were short staffed. We received a little lagniappe for the slow service. There is a kitchen support fee which is becoming quite common. Will we go back? Maybe If invited. Won’t rush back as it is not on the top of our list. But maybe when they have more staff, we’ll give it another try.

    Server was a little swamped and didn’t check on us too much but he made up for it by being super nice and giving us a dessert on the house (and explaining that there was a little chaos going on instead of just ignoring us). They ran out of gluten free noodles, but our server was helpful in giving other options! Food was good and we loved the atmosphere!

    2 of 3 appetizers arrived together. The third when our main courses arrived. The meatballs were over cooked, the parmesean Brule was so-so and the fried mozzarella was average at best. As for our main courses, the Wahoo was good, as was the Cacio y Pepe, the pasta with asparagus and crab was lacking asparagus and crab. The staff was short handed. Has a lot of potential, but to not show your best on a Saturday night was disappointing.

    Omg! Josephine Estelle’s was amazing! My husband & I had a weekend getaway at the Ace Hotel (which was also amazing) & decided to grab brunch at this restaurant before leaving. It was above & beyond from the service (Quincy was great), our food & drinks! We will definitely be back!!

    The service and food were amazing. We had the meatballs, fried cheese, campanelle, rigatoni and the mashed potatoes!!! The mashed potatoes is something everyone should try they are amazing! Wonderful drinks as well- the Paloma and amaretto drinks were awesome!

    Came here with my boyfriend for my 25 birthday. We got the duck and the steak and I don’t know which one I loved more. My boyfriend is very picky and I have never heard him rave more. The waitress was awesome, and the mood was very romantic and intimate. Anytime I’m back in NOLA, I will make sure to stop back.

    For those of use that ordered from the regular menu, we had a great meal. There was one person who ordered from the Coolinary menu. His second course (tortellini) arrived before he finished his first course. By the time he got to the tortellini, it was cold. His entree arrived w/2 tiny, tiny scallops. He left hungry. We asked our waiter what meats were on the Antipasto board. His response, "I don't know. We ask them (pointing toward the kitchen) to put it on the board, but they don't." When placing my order, I struggled w/the correct pronunciation of Tajarin (one of the pasta dishes). Waiter's response, "Oh, I don't know how to pronounce it either, but I know what you mean." Waiter had no personality. Disappointed but I will give it one more try. I would recommend JE but note to whomever my experience.

    The food was delicious and our waiter was great. She suggested a great wine for my meal, even offering me a sample first. Everything went well and even the bartender (I think she was the bartender?) came out to help make sure everything was satisfactory. I ordered gluten-free pasta which was outstanding, plus desserts which were killer. Both of us enjoyed it all immensely. And we didn't have to dress up! Most places require business casual but here, I was able to wear nice shorts and a casual shirt. It was the end of our trip so we were a bit tired of getting dressed up. We will return.

    Our second visit was as wonderful if not better than our first! Our first waitress DeAnna remembered us from eight months ago and came over to tell us welcome back. Our waitress this visit Meagan was wonderful and such a delight! Food and wine was delicious! It is absolutely a must for us every time we visit New Orleans.

    Server was ok, but bartender messed up two separate drinks twice - or maybe it wasn't communicated properly to him. Food was not up to past standards - meatballs used to be wonderful, now someone decided they should be spicy - why is that so common (especially in Italian food) these days? Very limited menu. Have been before, but won't be first choice again.

    I will sing the praises of our experience from the rooftops! Handmade gluten free pasta that taste like it was made by the godddddsssss. Butter crab meat with perfectly cooked asparagus. My spouse ordered the Coolinary 3 course meal and I he broccolini was all of the parts of a beautifully cooked grilled meat without your annoying neighbor trying to overtake your grill. If you’re a local- go here. If you’re a visitor- go here. Work lunch? They have a lunch Coolinary menu for the summer too. Oh- and y’all- they do breakfast!? What? I cannot waiiiiiiiiit for morning because I’m gonna place an order for pick up on my way into work. Yes, please!

    We ordered coffee but did not receive spoons. We ordered fired eggs and grits and finally had to go find salt and pepper on our own. We ordered a side of cheese grits to share and had to request a spoon to serve it. The waitress actually had hold of my plate to remove it while I was spooning grits onto it. But the real kicker was the sickly sweet Hollandaise sauce. Hollandaise has no business being sweet. The band was very good and improved our experience.

    Our aerver Diane was amazing. Peraonally find the manu a bit limited, tuna carpaccio was excellent, oysters were miniature and for sure not expected in NoLa, osobucco was good, good wine selection and options. Fish entree was very well plated (did not taste it) but the star was de cacio e pepe pasta we ordered to share as a side (not available as a side) desserts were ok. The only downside was we ordered some bread (2 orders of tuna carpaccio and not even a little cracker available) and we received 3 slices of a very poor looking oil impregnated bread.. and were told we will be charged for it.. we asked for the manager, saw the guy walking around and not willing to stop and talk… we sent the “bread” back and asked our server to remove ot from our check…….

    Courtney was a fantastic waitress. We ordered drinks, an amazing Parmesan brûlée appetizer, chicken, pasta, and amazing desserts. The atmosphere was relaxing and the manager was so attentive. We cannot wait to come back and eat here. The portions were amazing and food was flavorful. From the drinks, atmosphere, and food, I would highly recommend.

    Josephine Estelle is my favorite brunch spot in New Orleans. The quality of the food is unmatched and the atmosphere is also quite nice. My go to there is the smoked salmon with poached eggs and a mimosa. This has been a consistent go to of mine forever and I cannot wait to come back!

    Wow we made a reservation got there in time and we had to wait at least 10 mins because they didn’t have menus and had to print some. Then once seated table was dirty and the cups on our table were dirty one evening had lipstick on it. Server took long to take care of us and didn’t look like she was having the best day. It was just a bad start to our day in all honesty. We have been getting the best treatment even at Ruby Slipper which is a franchise treated us better than the restaurant at this hotel. We don’t recommend it and the food was just average. Nothing to write home about.

    Food was really good. The apps and drinks are extremely overpriced. We were almost finished with our dinner by the time our overpriced glasses of wine were delivered. For an Italian restaurant it was underwhelming for the total price at the end of our meal. There is a kitchen staff charge as well. Hotel guests were walking through the restaurant (some in bathing suits) while dining. I did appreciate the atmosphere and beautiful potted plants inside and out of the restaurant.
