Bienvenue. Les Bubbles is a Parisian steakhouse on the corner of Wickham and Little Street in Fortitude Valley, forged in the very same building that housed the notorious illegal casino, bath-house and brothel at the centre of the Fitzgerald Inquiry. While the card decks and kerb servers are all but gone, the building’s colourful history remains pinned to every wall. Steak frites – known by many as the national dish of France – is the centrepiece of our menu. We sear the steak to your liking, before serving it with bread, salad, plenty of sauce and bottomless frites. Les Bubbles welcomes all, and as such, both vegetarian and pescatarian eaters will feel right at home. For any curious individuals, a change of scenery is available by wandering down a single flight of stairs. It’s there that you will find the Bath-House, featuring a full bar, banquet seating and a open-aired deck to enjoy a pre or post dinner cocktail!

It was our daughter's birthday and we booked Les Bubbles on the Saturday night. We didn't have to wait long for our table to become available and we're ushered to our table. We were seated in a high traffic area between the kitchen and a large family group where there were a number of small children. The children were doing what children do best when parents and adults at the table allow them to treat the restaurant as a playground. It was obvious to wait staff that other diners were getting disturbed but they said nothing. I'm guessing as the restaurant was going to receive a substantial income don't worry about the smaller groups. The meal itself was good to very good. Out of the three premium steak frites two were cooked medium rare and the other was blue. But due to the restaurant being busy wait staff would take ages to attend. We tried to get extra fries but were unable. We finished and ordered three Creme Brulee. 30 minutes passed and we were tired of waiting. I approached the counter and asked if they had put the order through and they had not. I said that we would settle the bill and leave where I was told that it would be long to prepare our dessert order. My reply was that if it was put through when we wanted it we would have eaten it then. I was then told that they would sell it to us as a take away. Ridiculous! Walking around a rainy Fortitude Valley eating 3 x Creme Brulee would be unique but why would we. For a restaurant that stands by their steak frites as their mainstay on the menu, please get it right. Tighten up on the service and try not to upsell when we receive bad service. Try remedying the disappointed customer not try and get them to spend more after a bad experience.

I really feel bad about this but we were looking forward to this meal and we left before desert - which is pretty much unheard of. The layout and fit out is pretty much bang on French bistro (but then what would I know). The references to the historic use of the space is quite a giggle. There was a spelling mistake on the first line of the menu - ok fine - but it’s a bit cheap just to leave it. First hiccough - being brought the wrong wine - because I was on the loo the waitress opened it and let my wife taste. My wife didn’t order it and didn’t spot that it was about a wrong as possible ( Pinot Noir vs Chablis ). We kept the Pinot Noir so as to limit the embarrassment. The starters were awesome - bone marrow (2) and duck breast. We ordered some extra bread with the bone marrow and it got there in time … just. The mains were ok - 2 x steak frites and the duck leg. We had ordered some garlic bread but it was forgotten about. Here’s where it gets more impactful - the place was busy - early Saturday evening, but there was no attention from the waitress at all - we had to shout for help pretty much. It’s nice to have a single table person rather than have bits of everyone. By this stage we did not feel like staying for desert which ( as mentioned ) is very unlike us. Nothing major - but the lack of single table attention add the issues together. Could have been a great night ……

Eh, everything but the steak is mediocre but he steaks are top tier. They need to change up the menu a bit cause it’s getting a little boring.

This place has a heap of potential but the vibe is off.. we arrived at 8:45pm for a booking and there were 4 other tables seated. We were told the kitchen was waiting for us as we were the last table, despite not being late. Went to order a cocktail but we were told the bar was closed so they could only do beer or wine. Food is great, service is friendly - but it's just missing the mark. It's like walking into grill'd for dinner, it's fine but not what you would expect for this venue. Almost no music. Very awkward. We saw them turning away people at 9pm to be seated as they were closing, again it seems so early. As we approached 9:30 they were actively packing up, counting the till, closing blinds, music off, mopping the floors. I get staff want to leave for the day but it's friday night? Change over to the next group of staff to run the night?Why would the owners not stay open and create a vibe until 11pm at minimum. Seems very odd.. Again, the food is great but obviously management has changed or it was sold to new owners that just don't have an eye in inner city hospitality. They have the perfect venue for a 'Mr Mista' vibe. Clear away tables at 10:30 and focus on drinks and music. They could make triple their profit!! I really hope they make a change as this place has SO much potential. Wishing them all the best 😊

We had to wait 45 minutes to get our first round of drinks. And had to chase 3 times. Steak orders/sauces were mixed up. Had to ask for cutlery for desserts. Had to ask for subsequent rounds of drinks several times. We were told 3 very different things from staff about closing time. Payment machine not working then. Individually the staff were nice but they did not appear to be working as a team or know the basics. Disappointing.

This was my favourite restaurant once upon a time. My two recent visits have been horrendous. It's almost as if you are inconveniencing the staff by being there. Wrong drink orders constantly, had to get out of my seat to find a server to take our order. Steaks cooked terribly, duck is terrible, tartar is terrible. Must have changed hands because the experience was so upsetting.

Promoted as a steakhouse, only had 2 steak options on the very limited menu. Both 300g. Mine was excessively salty ? Served with basic chops & salad, no vegetable option ? Wine choice was great! And venue presents well - just disappointing menu.
