We had the extended rice tafel and we had the 3 course botanical beer pairing and the 3 course wine pairing respectively. It's all recommended!
we enjoyed the place. The food (rejstaffel) was nice and good service. can recommend the place for larger group of people
Not a bad restaurant per se, but there are so many better (and cheaper) Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam. The food lacks the full flavours and spiciness that I expect from real Indonesian cooking
A tremendous amount of delicious food. Multiple courses, courteous staff, pleasant atmosphere
Good food, good location, good service. Recommendation for sure
I decided to come here for Father’s Day. This place is wonderful. Delicious food without making you feel extremely stuffed. I like the pre-fixed menu for family sharing. Great variety and definitely creates a unique experience for all first-time visitors.
Didn't realise it was a hotel restaurant, as it was not advertised as such on the website, which probably accounts for its inflated prices. Portions were very small for the price charged. The food was very mediocre, considering how many good (and much cheaper) Indonesian restaurants can be found in Amsterdam. The vegan food contained egg, and salad (gado-gado) was smothered in peanut butter. On the plus side, the staff were very pleasant, although they did get our order wrong twice. On balance, a very disappointing experience.
Delicious Indonesian rijsttafels / rice table (much, MUCH better that your average Dutch “Chinees-Indisch restaurant”) and not just very, but indeed EXTREMELY friendly staff.
However, the two things keeping me from what would have been a full five stars overall rating are:
1] The background music being too loud (not overwhelming, just pointlessly slightly too loud)
and MUCH more importantly, the same ailment many restaurants suffer from:
2] Tables WAAAAY to close to each other – I’d estimate 40-50cm at most. Dear excellent staff of MM’s, please note: THAT IS TOO CLOSE. In our case, an English speaking woman at the table next to us almost completely ruined our diner+evening with her high-pitched and overarticulated voice. But even if she hadn’t been there, it’s simply UNCOMFORTABLE & UNEASY having complete strangers sitting too damn close to your own table. That’s what’ll keep us from both referring friends to to you, and coming back ourselves. As far as we’re concerned, not enough privacy is a dealbreaker for any restaurant, and in that respect, sadly, MM violates our personal standards.
Service and ambient are great! Nice (International) staff and realy good service. We ordered the rijsttafel (€36,50) and the start (soup) was great. Then the sate and main course was not in line with my expecatations. Not the taste and flavors I had in mind from visits to other Indonesian restaurants.
We had a nice evening but I will not return.
Really tasty food. Great value for tasting menus. Service is friendly but strangely forgetful. Desserts need work.
Very nice rijsttafel, different dishes than usual and great flavours. Do wish they would also offer an a la carte menu. Also I’d recommend starting dinner with a cocktail at the bar!
Nice food, very friendly personnel! Me and my friend took side dishes (because we already had a big lunch) and a dessert! It was lovely and the employees asked frequently if everything was oke, which was very nice!
Food was good, satisfied a craving anyway. But it’s in a Hyatt Regency on a bland street. Corporate. Perfectly fine but could have been anywhere in the world. If you want a “feels like Amsterdam” experience keep looking.
First of all, I would really like to thank our host for the night, Mrs. Barbara D. She was our host for the entire night, which was quite handy with ordering en she made us feel really taken care of. She was checking up on us throughout the whole dinner and asking if we were okay and if we needed anything else. Since it was my birthday, I really felt nice.
Furthermore, everything went perfectly fine the whole evening. The one thing we noticed, were the portions of the food, which were not really in proportion with what we got. However, we knew in advance Mama Makan is a little more expensive compared to other restaurants (since we are students, we notice these kind of things). It's is not really a remark, but we noticed we were kind of the youngest visitors in the restaurant.
However, I definitely like going to Mama Makan, so you will see me again soon. Thanks for all!
Great service and ambience, however the Vegan Menu was a bit dissapointing and the Beer paring was also not great.
The ambiance was perfect. However the food is way overpriced and didn't taste as the Indonesian kitchen should taste. The vegan rice table had almost no taste. The daging rendang was 'ok'. I wouldn't recommend it to others. With such a great spot and ambiance, I would definitely say to the owners and kitchenstaff: sort out your dishes. Make sure they are outstanding and have a proper Indonesian taste! Please take this as feedback
The ambiance is great but there are far more better indonesian restaurants in town.
Top restaurant in hotel ook voor locals! Heerlijke rijsttafel in spannend interieur! Aanrader!
Good but not great. Some dishes really good - some forgettable.
Service very friendly and attentive but not accommodating of menu substitutions.
Ordinary street food with fine dining price.
Fabulous meal. Great value for money as there was a lot of food.
Good vegan choice although could be refined and made even better but left full and impressed after my first rijsttafel.
Enjoyed the food very much and our waitress was very attentive. Booked many weeks in advance and was surprised to be seated next to a rowdy party of lairy lads who sadly kept banging table making everyone jump out of their skin. Would have expected manager to intervene sooner to ask them to pipe down or leave
Good menu, better prefer a la carte menu, not 5 course menu, extremely polite staff.
We love Mama Makan and it is one of the best Indonesian kitchens in Amsterdam!
Really nice place, with very good food. We would defenitely reccomment this place!
The location as the interior and the ambiance are good to excellent. The service is cordial, polite and does it with a smile. The food has little to do with the authentic Indonesian cuisine. It is an anti-climax.
Loved it and the people who worked there were so nice. I would definitely come back!
Not the most authentic Indonesian food I’ve had, but the ambiance makes up for some of this, although the restaurant was quiet for a Sunday night. I prefer an Indonesian Rijsttafel with all the different dishes served at once, instead of presented as a course dinner. Prices are steep for the quality you get, there are better Indische and Indonesian restaurants in town.
We reserved a table for 7 on a Saturday night 2 weeks in advance. At the restaurant we were told that we could only order one of the three rice tables. A la carte would require long waiting times and was not recommended. I wish we were told beforehand.
Though the food was excellent, the portions were meager. For dessert, each guest got a mini glass of a traditional pandan dessert and 6 of us had to share six scoups of ice cream and a small platter of tropical fruit (the two people at the next table shared a plate between them, so giving one plate to 6 makes no sense).
The €36 per person was very expensive, even for Amsterdam!
We left unsatisfied and will not return, despite the quality of the food itself.
Amazing food, really friendly and attentive staff! Great vegan Rijsttafel
Great food accompanied with great service
Great food and very very nice people working over there. Enjoyed it very much. This way of serving a rice table is a much better way than we were used to.
This is a fantastic hidden gem in Amsterdam. The quality of food and staff attention to details absolutely superseded expectations.
Het eten is niet van goede kwaliteit. Rendang smaakte goed alleen vol keiharde grote stukken vlees.
Attended for the brunch. The service was great. Welcoming at the door, quick to remove empty plates and refill wine glasses. The waitress we had was friendly and talkative. The food was decent. Great for a buffet style and what was nice was the kitchen had an open view to diners which is always reassuring. I would recommend trying the Bali brunch for a switch up on normal brunch.
Style is not 100% traditional but with a twist. Did not find traditional Indonesian dishes with authentic flavor. This might be ok for someone trying Indonesian food the first time but not for someone who is familiar with authentic Indonesian food taste.
