Entree was outstanding but the main was a real let down. Chicken overcooked and bland and the rice smelled funky. Everything else was great
Perfect place for a catch up with friends. Delicious, shareable food and excellent service.
We knew Mamasita as a popular restaurant so were glad when we were able to make a fairly last minute booking as my friend was in town on business. We had booked a bar table (as that's what we were offered at the time) but upon arriving at the restaurant we were asked if we'd like to change to a low 2 seater which we did and this was great. Tables are close together, it's not the largest restaurant and it's obvious that lots of people want to eat here so they have to be but staff handle this beautifully whether talking to you or filling up your (never empty) water glass. The menu was explained to us well - there are multiple set menu options (that they may be able to make adjustments to, we asked!) as well as a la carte with everything designed to share. We were craving tortilla chips and guacamole which wasn't in any of the set menus and not being the biggest dessert fans (which is included in all set menus) we opted to do our own thing. We ordered tortilla chips & dips, chargrilled corn in a bowl, nut chorizo tostada, rockling ceviche, grilled fish tacos, pork carnitas tacos and lamb rib chops. Oh my goodness the corn was soooo good! I could eat multiple bowls on my own. The ceviche and fish tacos were another highlight and the nut chorizo was an interesting vegan option. Whereas the pork tacos were very wet & salty and the lamb rib chops were rather hard to eat. By that stage of the meal we were getting full anyway so left some of the ribs and definitely weren't interested in dessert, although the options sounded nice. We washed all of that down with a jug of Pink Cooler which was lovely - refreshing and a little smoky. They were incredibly accommodating about my aversion to fresh coriander which is always a plus and very much appreciated in a Mexican restaurant. Overall a great night!
I've been to Mamasitas before a long time ago in 2010, it was so lovely to return and try out the dishes again. I had a friend visiting from the UK and he was very impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. Overall a very good experience. I would definitely recommend visiting Mamasita for a nice night out, dinner and drinks with friends.
I have been wanting to dine with you for some time now. I’m a Coeliac and your restaurant was highly recommended. It did not disappoint. I will definitely be back and recommend it to others.
Couldn’t fault a thing!! Never disappoints. Can’t wait to come back
Prompt service.Finger licking food!!Would definitely come back soon.
Fabulous meal. We did the staff favourites menu, and we could see why each dish was chosen! The staff were attentive and helpful, even taking corn off the cob for a member of our party who had visited the dentist.
There were surprises on the menu. The vegan taco was amazingly good - fantastic texture and amazing cashew crema.
Great meal, great service. We will come again the next time we are in Melbourne.
Nut chorizo tostada was the best thing I’ve ever eaten
This is a thoroughly professional operation. We live in NZ but travel annually to Melbourne and this restaurant is always on our must do list. Our wait staff included Kara who was “in training”. We would not have not picked that she was new to the role. She was quite outstanding.
Really enjoyed our meal here. The main was a little cold which was disapppinting. Everything else was delicious.
We loved our evening out at Marmasita! Great music & delicious food! Fabulous attentive service. Really fun!! Hope to go back soon! Thanks Marmasita.
We arrived and seating was all well and good. Our waitress only bought one meal out and we sat and waited for the other for a while until we were able to grab her attention to find out where the other meal was. It was then discovered that she thought we were going to share the one meal as we had both ordered the same thing (probably confused by the fact that we were only given one menu, so my friend placed both orders). The mistake was fair enough but then the second meal took forever (it was only tacos!) and I sat and watched my friend finish her meal before mine even came out. I then ate mine while she sat and watched. This was disappointing, there was no apology. Trying to lighten our unfortunate situation my friend ordered two more margaritas ($17 a pop!) which then took an extraordinarily long time to appear. Next time I have a friend in town I will take them elsewhere.
Very friendly service. The team were knowledgeable about the menu and their recommendations were bang on!
We loved our family meal at Mamsita's! We went on the recommendation of a friend. The flavours were amazing, service great, cool vibe, good air conditioning, prompt service. Our server was interesting to talk to and personable. Yes I would definitely recommend this to any group, family, work or friends crowd.
Food was fresh, inventive and delicious. I’m quite a wary eater, but I loved the dishes and will absolutely return frequently. I felt the drinks were just ok, not bad but not a drawcard.
Overall a pleasant meal with great service. The food was nice but some items could do with more flavour. The shellfish tostada and vegie tacos were exceptional. The rockling ceviche was a let down with the fish being rubbery and over powered with citrus. Cochinita pork quesadilla was a little blend. The Paloma cocktail was amazing.
Great food and drink. Our waitress was very attentive. The restaurant is very dim but has a great buzz to it. My cocktail was a little spicy for my liking but everyone else was brilliant. Highly recommend.
Lovely. Could go a few more veg varieties. The flan was amazing. Definitely get the flan
The food was so delicious, the drinks were amazing, we had the Celebration banquet and it was just superb. The wait staff were very attentive and personable as well. Highly recommend. We will be back so soon.
Service was poor. Our table was occupied despite being booked in advance and staff fumbled around with no alternative so we had to stand in the middle of the
Room and wait, table never became available and ultimately seated elsewhere in a high traffic area where staff kept knocking into my back. Waitstaff were most unavailable when I need to order or get the bill, even a drink took a long time having to remind staff several times, food was okay not worth the hype. Noisy place.
Great food and margaritas. They only negative was that we had a booking and weren’t seated until 20 mins later.
Great food, fabulous view of Collins Street, amazingly attentive service from Max (Max-He-Can!) Will definitely go back for the cheesy corn again!
We went to Mamasita for a pre-Theatre dinner (I don’t believe there’s a specific menu for this.) I had booked a bar seat, but we were offered a table as it was an early weeknight booking. We still chose the bar, because it’s always more interesting at the bar.
Our server was generous with his time regarding our questions of the drinks menu. He took time to explain to us the nuance of tequila, mezcal and raicilla. Had we the time we would have absolutely enjoyed more drinks of his recommendation.
We opted for the margarita of the week, for something simple. It was mango, coconut and chilli. Really quite exceptional.
We started with the pickles and the corn, and thoroughly enjoyed both dishes.
We continued to the vegan nut chorizo tostada which had such an interesting flavour profile.
For our main we shared both the fried fish and grilled fish tacos.
The grilled fish was my favoured.
I would absolutely return to Mamasita next time I’m in town, and would definitely make the booking for a time I’m not scheduled to be somewhere after.
Amazing food and amazing service. Best Margherita ever -it’s the new favourite restraunt in my family!
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Staff were amazing!
Great staff and cocktails. Some dishes were better than others. Highly recommend the corn starter.
Food was OK - but just OK. We had about 6 or 7 dishes. Would come back for one (maybe two). Shellfish Tostata was best dish. Ceviche rubbery.
Dessert was much better than the mains. Home made Creme Caramel was amazing and well worth a try.
Service was great - friendly and very helpful.
Overall I was a little disappointed. For a very busy place, food wasn't up to scratch.
Started with sweet corn on the cob, flavour was good but corn was undercooked. Tequila shots were amazing specially with the shot of spicy tomato juice and also came at the right time.
Food was average and was shadowed by the mountain of meat leaving no room for other elements to shine. Tacos were overfilled with meat and not enough acidity to cut through making the dishes very 1 dimensional. Burrata with mole was the biggest disappointment, the dish was cold and the mole itself had too much cumin so we couldn’t taste anything else. Creme caramel was average, overcooked and the caramel needed to be taken a bit further to get some bitter notes because the addition of dulce de leche made it way too sweet abd very lacking in presentation.
Service was good, our waitress looked after us really well even though she was so busy, i don’t know her name( tall blonde) but the bar got bombarded so we had to wait about 15mins for some tequila shots.
Favourites; rockling cheviche (beautiful flavour, fresh and could have eaten more of, crispy fried white bait and the grilled chicken.
Hope this review was of some help...
not sure if i will be back
We had the tasting menu (10 dishes). It wasn’t what I personally expected. It ended up being too much corn and a lot less flavour. The tostadas were the only highlight. I would only consider coming back to try the tacos. The wine recommendations were good and the service from Carolina was attentive and warm.
Food flavour and quality was very good and service too. Seating is very close together at the standard tables
Was happy with our choice for a few drinks (cucumber jalapeno cocktail!!) and vego/GF snacks pre-show at the Forum. Thought we'd have to give up our table after a few hours but it was a relatively quiet night so we were able to take our time. Staff very attentive, friendly and accommodating to dietary requirements. Amazing vego options!
It was our fist time there and everything was perfect! Our waiter, Max, gave us excellent suggestions and the food was so tasty and generous. The ambiance was quiet enough for us to have a good conversation yet lively and energetic. We would certainly visit again!
We loved Mamasita! Would have received 5 stars in every category if it weren’t for the 10% Sunday surcharge, but very common and completely understandable so no complaints here!
Fantastic Mexican food. Great service. A must do.
The service was exceptional and made the dining experience thoroughly enjoyable. Leo was our waiter and he was attentive, friendly and efficient.
The food was delicious, especially the corn! Definitely a well priced and enjoyable meal.
Food was outstanding - flavourful and clean - service was brilliant ok - a must when visiting Melbourne
Food and location was great, but the service was terrible.
Sadly a poor experience tonight at Mamasita . We had a voucher from our children for a special dinner. Service was erratic, food slow to come out, cold and disappointing. Tables squashed in for the tennis no doubt. Water constantly filled up but that was the highlight. Corn on the cob only winner here. Not hard to have a great meal in Melbourne .. sadly not here!
The fifth star is for the elote. Delicious food, beer and wine.
