Nice restaurant with good quality food. The temperature of the restaurant was a little chilly and the appetizers were small but overall really good experience and would definitely go back.
Service is excellent, attentive, knowledgeable. Care with wine serving, silverware change with every course, helpful with every request.
Lamb ragu / papardelle and branzino bordetto very good.
Risotto good but not perfect, not enough parmezan in the mix.
Our dinner was utterly delicious! Each and every course was simply delectable, and we had a grand time!
Everything was wonderful from the host to our server Victor who was stellar and his colleague Petra who really rounded out the entire experience. The owner or chef should proud of the team there and especially Victor and Petra!!!

My wife and I enjoyed an outstanding anniversary dinner at Modena. Our waiter Antonio was friendly and cordial, and helpful in recommending dishes. Each course was splendid, both beautifully presented and delicious. We had the artichokes and calamari for our first courses, and then the homemade pasta, one of us with lamb, the other with the Bolognese sauce. We finished with the bombolini (doughnuts), and a glass of Zucca Amaro. Dinner was accompanied by a gentle northern Italian wine, Teroldego, from Alto-Adige. A complete feast. Strepitoso! We'll be back soon.

We celebrated my husband's 75th birthday at Modena- none of us had eaten there--but all of us will return. The food is extremely high quality, wonderful and interesting combinations and flavors beautifully presented. I am not a food critic so I don't have the vocabulary to describe the wonderful appetizers, mains and desserts--but I can say that if you appreciate good food , you will love this restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive--and made our outing a truly festive occassion. We highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I chose To dine at Modena for our one night in DC , we got the 4course prix fix dining experience with the wine pairing and it was spectacular. The food was exquisite and the wines were perfectly matched. The service was fantastic; our waitress, the manager, and at least two other staff all delivered the food and wine to our table describing what we would be having. It was an amazing experience that we will not soon forget.

Modena is amazing! The food on the 4 course tasting menu was fabulous and the wine flight pairings were perfection! Petra is the most professional and knowledgable server around. She loves what she does, shares detail about every aspect of your course and is knowledgeable about all the menu options. She made us laugh and was a special breed of professional server at the same time. We will come back here for sure!

This is truly a great DC dining experience. The food is impeccable. Service is great. Ambiance is top notch
This was our first visit. It won't be our last. We arrived early for our requested table for 2 outside. (No traffic.) General Manager Dan Landau-Smith seated us immediately. The location met our "quiet table for conversation" criteria. The way service began (water, bread, menu, wine list) suggested this would be a professionally-paced, well-orchestrated evening. The tasty bits sequenced as follows: For the wife, Soave (white Italian wine), shared-with-me fried artichoke appetizer (lovely), chicken Saltimboca (creatively reimagined and delicious), blueberry tart (just large enough). For me, the Manhattan (cocktail from their drinks list - really good), Vermentino (white Italian wine), those fried artichokes, the ricotta ravioli (just added to the menu - great for Summer), chocolate mousse (a visual treat as well as an appropriate sweet ending), accompanied by grappa Marolo Barolo, and expresso. Portions were just right. Server Antonio took excellent care of us. GM Dan checked in on us periodically. From our outdoor perch, we also saw owner Ashok Bajaj walk by, greet customers, and check in with management. Overall, the evening was excellent. After dinner we were restored, and we continued to talk about how much we enjoyed the evening during our drive home. So, in summary, Modena is recommended, highly.

My friend and I stopped in DC on our way back from a road trip to the South. After a week of fried chicken and grits, Modena was a welcome change of pace. The homemade pastas were delicious and the charcuterie, especially the coppa, was fabulous. My friend was thrilled to see an icy cold Lambrusco on the wine list, a rarity except at the greatest restaurants. The service provided by Petra was unparalleled. And surprisingly, the price point was super reasonable for such a high-end experience. When in DC, make sure to stop by Modena!

Well, as soon as I pulled up I was able to get street parking right at the front door and did not have to waste time looking for parking, which is not always the case. Little did I know this was the beginning of POSITIVE TREND!!! My fiancé and I was GREETED IMMEDIATELY and was asked if we had a reservation, which we did. We were seated IMMEDIATELY and it was nice to know that making a reservation meant the establishment actually prepared for your arrival and had things waiting for you. It was such a PLEASANT SURPRISE! Also, as we were shown to our table every single staff member I maid eye contact with said hello. Getting all those SMILES made me feel like I was in the south getting some of that WONDERFUL southern HOSPITALITY . It was such a PLEASANT SURPRISE and just added to the WONDERFUL ambiance and climate of this fine establishment. I ordered the “Tour of Italy” in advance which is a 4 course meal and for a little extra you can have the recommended glass of wine for each course. If you love wine as we do you must select this option, it’s was worth every penny.
The cuisine was nothing less of PERFECT!!!!!!!! The chef is an AMAZINGLY CREATIVE person who definitely thinks out side the box. Your pallet will experience an ASTONISHING contrast of sweet, savory, chewy, crunchy and seem to be your main course and desert in one. I know this is hard to believe and yet we experienced this WONDERFUL and decadent PLEASURE in our mouths. Words cannot truly describe the experience and it must be experienced first hand. Please keep in mind that I am only describing the first course! The AMAZEMENT continues through to the final course. Who knew that food that looked so BEAUTIFUL could taste so EXQUISITE! Thank you to the staff at Modena for such a MEMORABLE experience and we look forward to another journey with you in the future. I really APPRECIATE the candle in my fiancé’s desert which really enhanced the celebrating of her birthday. Thanks again, Joe & Ana!!!

Returning to Modena is always a treat for those who can appreciate fresh food prepared in a savory tasting manner. The foie gras mousse with shaved truffle still melts in your mouth, with the explosion of the smoked salt. The Tortellini in Brodo-24 is a staple I hope they never remove from the menu. And Victor, our waiter, delivered impeccable service as usual!

The chef has a secret for making things moist AND crisp/done … the focaccia, the amaretti dessert cookies … and he is so approachable ❤️ You can watch him toil over platings thru the bar window. From the wine through dessert simply outstanding! The heirloom tomatoes and grilled calamari were exquisite and the pasta was the best we had in DC. My tomahawk pork chop was superb! Nathan gave us great service along with the rest of the staff. Hats off to the Chef.

All was great. I might like a little Frank Sinatra next time - but maybe that doesn’t appeal to the younger crowd! Second visit and it was consistently great both times. Cod and salmon were a bit salty, but otherwise great!

Modern Italian/California cuisine in posh setting but staff make you feel relaxed and like visiting a friend. Antonio and Brian were outstanding in every aspect and guarantee our return and recommendations to our friends.
Must have dishes include Wagyu carpaccio and tortellini in brodo, or enjoy a tiny splurge and have the gnocchi with fresh summer truffles.
Finish with amazing lemoncello.
