   We had a pleasant meal from the set menu on a Groupon deal - so it was really good value. The restaurant was pleasant, tables were well spaced out and we liked being able to look out over the bar below. Service was prompt and pleasantly attentive. We chose a two course meal. The starters were good and the main course was fine. The wine was very nice indeed. I wouldn't rave about the food but it was excellent value and a perfectly pleasant experience.

   Lovely hotel. The food was nice the service let it down. Waiter showed us to a table then left us for over 10 minutes. Brought the drink out then food followed. We asked for the drinks menu and that was brought over. We waited 15 mins to be asked what we would like. When we were leaving we went to the bar to pay and the same waiter didn’t know what we had ordered.

   We have been many times and the food is always excellent. We went for our 15th anniversary and the staff were amazing. The food was delicious and the ambiance is always good. Thank you for a lovely night.

   Service was poor to say there was 10 people in the restaurant , food portions were shocking and expensive for what you got , had the chicken and chips , I’ve had better at kfc 😡😡

   If I could give 0 stars I would - went for afternoon tea as was given a gift voucher for Christmas for me and my partner as his bday was this month decided to go to celebrate. Awful from start to finish when we arrived the staff all look confused the restaurant has about 4 other tables yet they sat us in the doorway on a dirty table - even though I had booked and gave them the voucher they continuously asked if we were having afternoon tea and if we wanted the Prosecco or hot drinks first we asked for the prosecco. This took 30 minutes to arrive after being prompted twice. After 40 minutes we asked how long the afternoon tea will be they said a few moments as there really busy today and they need to make fresh scones - 55 minutes went by and they said 2 minutes and it will be out - a lady then come over after 1hr 10 minutes of waiting and she was like have you been seen too - we explained and she went off 10 minutes went by and we were still left without and explanation of why it was taking so long or an afternoon tea so decided to just leave - 1hr 30 minutes we were in there for a Prosecco! Worst thing is as it’s a gift wowcher won’t allow a claim back only claim back is a feee meal or afternoon tea there arghh! Poor service overall - highly disappointed

    Restaurant nice inside. Kids menu good. Steak was nice but peppercorn sauce far too spicy. Very slow to get our food and deserts arrived after children had eaten theirs. Didn’t bring last glass of wine. Think would have been better elsewhere as lots of restaurants near by which would have had better selection and quicker to serve.

    Absolutely fantastic service and atmosphere. Could not have been looked after better - especially by Johanna! The food was lovely with an exciting menu and when it was a little too exciting for my autistic daughter Johanna seamlessly found solutions to our issues and made sure we had a wonderful evening (and breakfast) A fantastic Christmas treat. Thank you!

    The food and customer service were awful. We ordered sauces which came after the meal was finished. I ordered parmesan for my risotto and it didn't arrive until my last bit. The server was ever so rude. Disgraceful service in all honesty. There was only one other group there, it was completely quiet otherwise so I dont understand why the service for take orders and bringing cutlery and condiments was so terribly slow. I was waiting for spoon for my risotto and by the time it arrived my risotto was cold.

    Arrived at the Clayton Hotel and it is lovely. However the afternoon tea is in the main busy bar area where your surrounded by people who have walked in off the street. We were seated next to a sleeping man who remained the for the entire hr and a half we were there eating our afternoon tea. Food was not to our taste. It was a strange selection of of sandwiches and a mushroom and garlic quiche which was quite horrible. Not as advertised. Sadly I would not recommend the afternoon tea.

    Lovely hotel and decor, nice food although both the pork chop and chicken could have done with some gravy (we are northern) or ‘ju’ they were a bit dry. Starter of pate was nice but a bit more bread would have been good, two little pieces meant I had to try to pile it up, had to leave some sadly as I ran out of bread. Service was good. Restaurant was a bit quiet, maybe some background music would help

    The starters were all right but the main course were disappointing. We ordered a cheeseburger, two grill sirloin steaks and a portion of vegan pasta. The cheeseburger was burnt. The sirloin steaks were average. And pasta was quite pale, not much flavour in it.

    I asked for a rare sirloin and received a medium to well done sirloin. I sent it back and asked for it to be re cooked. The waitress returned and told me that chef said it was fine. It was grey inside. I waited for my wife to finish her fish dish and went for a kebab. I felt sorry for the waitresses. I was offered a free bottle of wine to compensate which I declined. I needed food not drink! Awful experience. I'll never go back

    We arrived for our booking at 5.30pm which was a Groupon deal for 2 x Sirloin Steak meals with glass of wine each. The first member of staff advised that Sirloin Steak not available and so Rump would be served. I asked if there would be a refund and was promptly told that there wouldn't be. We placed our order quickly with another member of staff and provided the Voucher. At 6.15pm I had to request as to the whereabouts of our food to which we were advised would be another 5 mins or so. To be fair they provided my Wife with a large glass of wine for the inconvenience. When the meal finally arrived it was very nicely cooked and enjoyable - the problem being that we both had to rush it down as we had a taxi booked to take us to a pre-booked show (had to push out twice with taxi company due to late meal). It spoilt our evening somewhat as we had been here before again on Groupon and had no such problems. We would go again as the setting and overall hotel is excellent but the restaurant service times really do need to be reviewed.

    Food was very good once it arrived (roughly 40 minute wait, so trusted it had been freshly cooked). Staff were friendly and polite. Fairly quiet when we first got in (6pm), but already getting much busier as we were leaving (8pm).

    Nickita and Sophie, running head of house absolutely fantastic. They made our evening. Very caring and attentive, a real credit to the hotel and its brand. As for the food, I had read some mixed reviews, and to be fair that is how I would score, the starter we had (mushroom soup) very tasty, but my wife’s was hot yet mine was look warm. My main was fish and chips, I couldn’t really eat it, full of oil to the point I could squeeze it out the chips, the fish was obviously frozen and not fresh as it was wet inside rather than flaky. My wife vegetarian main was nice yet her desert which was the coconut desert had no real taste. My desert was fine which was sticky toffee pudding, as I say a mixed bag really. So I think the food does need to improve in order that I could recommend, especially when there are many and I mean many other places to eat very close by. The Hotel room was lovely.

    The service was very poor. The booking included unlimited drinks of tea/coffee and a glass a Prosecco. We were only asked once if we wanted a drink. I had to go to the bar area to request further drinks. The Prosecco was never mentioned and we left without asking rather than waiting further.

    The food and the service was fabulous,The staff were all lovely n polite .Nikita in the bar was very obliging and helpful.Elle in the restaurant was lovely too and the manager brought us a surprise chocolate tray for my husbands 80 th birthday,which was unexpected!A great experience all round would certainly visit again,high.y recommended.The breakfast was super plenty of choice for everyone and again all the staff were very pleasant.

    The food was really nice however I have an issue particularly with the £6.50 bread, it was 4 tiny loaves and was not worth the money. I thought it would be enough to tie us over because it took them an hour to bring out our steak but alas it wasn't. When the steak came out it was great other than my medium steak being very much rare. It just would have been so much better with a lesser wait time, better value bread and less noise from the men watching football downstairs. The decor was gorgeous though there is definitely an attention to detail in the venue, overall 3/5

    HAD A NICE BOOTH TABLE. HAD TO WAIT QUIET A WHILE FOR THE DRINKS AS THEY HAD TO GO DOWNSTAIRS TO GET THE VODKA. THE FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD BUT THE CHOICE ON THE GROUPON MEAL OFFER WAS LIMITED TO THREE CHOICES. WOULD BE GOOD TO HAVE THE OPTION OF PAYING A LITTLE EXTRA FOR A STEAK SO WERE LEFT DISAPPOINTED. THE PLATE WAS HALF EMPTY TOO SO NOT A LOT ON THE MAIN COURSE. THE STARTER WE HSAD WAS PATE AND WHILST THE PATE WAS GREAT, ONE SLICE OF TOAST ISNT ENOUGH UNLESS THE PATE IS 5CM THICK! COME ON…GIVE SLIGHTLY BETTER PORTIONS AND A LITTLE MORE CHOICE.

    Restaurant inside the Clayton Hotel. Clean and Tidy. Met promptly and seated quickly. Service was good. Food was ok. Had Hummus for starter. Very tasty and Chicken for main course. Well cooked although a bit plain for me.

    Once again outstanding service especially by restaurant manager I think she was called Nichola? Couldn't do enough for you. I have a severe allergy and eating out is scary. But not here. Beautiful surrounds amazing food with top class service highly recommend 👌

    We stayed through the Groupon offer and got the 2 course dinner and breakfast included. The evening meal and breakfast were both great! Would recommend staying here and will be staying again in the future.

    Great ambience with a view of the street below. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We went for the meal for 2, which was very good value and cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend.
