Oriental Tea House - Chapel St
Nice but not fantastic food and for a fixed menu not enough food.
Great food and service - the only let down was not being able to split bill at the end which was very annoying!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Oriental Teahouse for yum cha. We were seated quickly and were also served quickly and our waitress followed up regularly with us to see if we needed more drinks etc.
All staff were lovely as was the food which was all delicious. The different trays of food kept coming out very regularly and we did not have to wait for anything. The food is very tasty and fresh. The best yum cha!
I was told by my friends that the food at the Oriental Tea House was the best food anywhere - a very big claim. I don't know about that, but we shared 4 meals and all of them were quite special so I recommend giving Oriental Tea House a go. I don't have any negatives; it's a little expensive, but the food is good so i thought the prices were fair enough. I even enjoyed tasting a couple of different teas that were on offer in "the tea area".
Just had dumplings - great idea
Really interesting flavours great combinations
Absolutely amazing food and great customer service. Food was well priced with exceptionally fast service. 10/10 would recommend and be back.
Really great service.
Brought rice out for my little one straight away, asked us if there was any preferences we were waiting on from the kitchen (we were at Sunday Yum Cha) then plates of what we requested came around.
Delicious food as always and a really pleasant experience
The food always seems under seasoned.
The service was very slow, food came out at different times and we also didn’t receive 1 of the orders. Nothing special :(
Excellent food. Very quick and attentive service. With a smile . Loved it.
Dined here for Midweek lunch. Very quiet. Good main but cold wagyu beef dumplings were disappointing. Pretty pricey for what it is.
Fantastic food with amazing flavours, we dined on a Sunday afternoon and began with yum cha then finishing with rice and another main dish from the menu. Lovely settings with great service although a little slow due to the peak demand.
Loved the atmosphere, incredible variety and quality of food! Will be back again! Thankyou for a lovely evening
Outstanding service and food, was a very busy night but staff still managed to be very attentive and helpful. Food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. It was the perfect end to my birthday, thank you so much!
Excellent for kids. Great highchairs and utensils for kids. Staff even brought over a plastic cup and paper straw for my daughter so she couldn’t break it. Thanks!
Recommended with reservations. Food is good, service is friendly although not that efficient. Horrendously they will not split the bill at all - absolutely refused to even split into two equal halves. Understand that they can’t have a situation where each person in a group wants a separate bill - but surely we can do two equal splits.
Excellent food and good friendly service, casual and no fuss.
We booked in advance because we’d heard it could get busy - it was only half full though. Perhaps busier weekend than midweek
Highlight was the ginger prawn dumplings (we had a second serve instead of dessert!). Also loved the scallop/prawn XO and honey steak (so tender and melt in the mouth!).
The service was probably the highlight. As a couple, all the servings were in 3s or 5s which I thought was weird. 4s make more sense for share dishes.
But We were asked if we wanted the Peking duck in a 4 instead so it was equal which was lovely. Then every other dish also came out in 4s including our second order of dumplings from a different waitress.
I thought It was an impressive, elegant service that many other places would refuse to do let alone intuitively offer upfront.
I would definitely head back and have my eye on some other dumpling flavours to try!
The only let down was being next to a table of 2 very loud lawyers who were talking arrogantly about their wheeling and dealing. It was quite distracting and frustrating. If the service wasn’t so quick we would have asked to move tables. But the food came quickly so we were out in about 45mins.
Good food but service lacking.
Very popular eating spot on Chapel Street -definitely worth pre booking a table in advance. Nice decor and buzzing atmosphere, and a large bar upstairs called Zhou Zhou. Pity about the service which was slow from the minute we sat down, with long gaps of service throughout the evening. The food was great, the Shredded Beef was amazing, as were the prawn & ginger dumplings.
We would return but only to visit Zhou Zhou bar upstairs for a cocktail and some dumplings.
Bit patchy overall I must say; dumplings were great but the Peking duck pancake was the worst I’ve ever had - horrible, tough duck meat and watery sauce making the pancake itself soggy. The tea I ordered was put in the wrong pot and couldn’t be poured, had to be changed over. Waited an age for dessert order and had to leave before it arrived. Given it’s a little on the expensive side for yum cha, expect better.
Was so nice to be able to dine with our family - which included a toddler and newborn. The sitting time of 5pm was great, there were other families too, and we were out by 7pm! Not many places open early for dinner - so this was a bonus! We were made to feel very welcome, our waitress was wonderful too! Will definitely be back!
Quality and quantity of food was incredible. Service was fast and friendly as well as helpful! I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I ordered a raspberry lime iced tea and that was one of the best iced teas I’ve had. Thank you to this place for allowing us to have a great night with great food and service !! It’s been a while
Delicious dumplings and great presentation. Great ambiance. Music could be lower.
The Dumplings were delicious, San Choy Bow were the best I’ve had. Satay was so fresh and the shredded steak was so tender.
Cocktail didn’t taste like it had any alcohol so for the price I thought that was disappointing but the glass of Tempranillo was perfect!
Oriental has an interesting selection of dumplings and small bites. The food is consistent with attentive service - a class above the cheaper and rude dumplings joints.
Great place for a good value, high quality meal with great vegetarian options. The tables are spaced far enough apart and the music etc at a level that conversation is possible without having to yell which is an absolute blessing! Love this place . Only downside is slightly sloppy service but I can forgive it as has so many other positives
Fantastic restaurant, accidentally arrived 20 min prior to our booking and we were still seated immediately and received impeccable service. Food was outstanding and can absolutely recommend the Peking duck Bao and Happy Tea
Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious and came out super quick. The shredded steak in sticky sweet chilli sauce was a highlight!
The staff were really friendly and provided excellent service. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back again
Divine food and impeccable service. A very nice place for Sunday Yum Cha.
Food was amazing as always. The ice tea was awful it was fizzy and tasted like medicine. Its such a shame their ice tea was AMAZING and nownthat they have put it on tap for theirnown convenience ot tastes awful and honestly who wants fizzy tea? Its truely ruined a delicious dring. Also its so dark in side you can barley read the menu
Great reliable Chinese food with enough vegetarian options ! Quiet enough for chatting without having to scream .
Everything great - except some of the dishes weren’t quite as hot as they should have been- temperature hot not chilli hot!
The food was amazing and very tasty. Value for money was excellent. Overall atmosphere was great too.
Always enjoy coming here. Had the feast for two people which provided great value. There were no problems to swap out certain some dishes.
And the white chocolate dumplings are to die for!
Once again the team at Oriental Tea House didn't disappoint, always amazing. Our favourite place to visit every time we are in Melbourne.
Thank you so much for making my birthday easy and relaxing. All of the food was amazing, couldn't fault it and the service considering how busy it was seemed like nothing was to hard and always with a smile.
Easily the best Chinese food I’ve had in a very long time. Extensive menu, excellent wine list and great service. Very generous portions of all meals and surprisingly well-priced. The only downside is the noise (concrete floors and walls don’t lend themselves to quiet) which made it very hard to hear my companions and to hold a conversation.
Was very busy for a sunday night at 6:30. We were seated upstairs. Usually the food arrives in a steady procession but this time it stopped for 1/2 an hour with three dishes to go. Food was awesome as usual.
Great evening, staff were very attentive however not over the top and very helpful! Would absolutely go back and recommend.
Gorgeous food. One of my fave restaurants in Melbourne
