Great food great staff and a lovely place to eat will definitely book again
Arrived on time and were seated immediately by our hostess, one guest needed a cushion to raise her to a level which was comfortable for eating at the table , this was immediately brought and the guest made comfortable.Drinks were ordered and brought fairly quickly whilst we perused the menus, we were allowed sufficient time to decide what we would like to order and had a good time to chat and enjoy our company before the food arrived. We had as starters two portions of scallops which were shared between we four just so we didn't fill up too quickly, they were very well cooked and delicious. two beef roasts and two beef bourginoun followed all of which were very well cooked and presented and served in reasonable amounts. One guest required extra gravy which was delivered very swiftly. After tasty dessserts we all felt we had had a very good meal indeed. Ambiance was good, service was excellent and the staff very helpful and happy. So on the whole excellent.
Lovely, friendly staff. Food reasonably priced. Outstanding food. Def will go again.
This is a lovely experience. A nice, well run and well kept pub in a pleasant village.
The only criticism is a general one; that eating places all over continue to allow pet dogs in. I would welcome a directory of pubs and cafes that refuse pet dogs.
As always fantastic food & service we ent for the Wellington Wednesday absolutely best pub meal we have ever had
Always a very warm welcome, personal attention and excellent service.
We will be back for our next celebration.
I've enjoyed eating at The Papermakers for several years and it always maintains a very high standard of friendly service and excellent food. The menu is not overly extensive but I was still spoiled for choice for each of the three courses. Mrs H choose differently but enjoyed just as much. Good wine list and local sourcing also very welcome. Thanks!
Always good just one thing we didn't like. Everything else was as good as ever.
Working Lunch on a Thurday, service and food was lovely. Sat outside in the sun it was busy but service was prompt and with good humour.
Lovely food, good service, it’s a lovely place to eat. Lovely outdoor terrace if the weather’s good.
This restaurant is consistently good.
Unfortunately parts of the wine list are out of kilter with the menu
For example there is no reasonably priced French White Burgundy and since this may not be available post Brexit we need every opportunity to enjoy it while we can !
Our visits to the Papermakers Arms are always a enjoyable experience and this week was no different. From the delicious and well-balanced dishes to the friendly service and lovely staff, it is exceptional - and a very relaxing evening out on all levels.
Nice pub food, good service. one of the best in the area now so many places are closing.
Good pubs come to those who travel to Plaxtol. As soon as I popped my head into the Papermakers Arms I knew I was in the right place. The interior is modern, bright, but still has that country feel given the hearth and historic photographs. I loved reading the stories dotted on the walls; they invite the customer to not just a pub, but an institution.
I also loved the decor of the tables; the Papermakers Arms leather table mats, candles and flower arrangements are beautiful.
With all the poignant details, it was predictable the food would follow the same
Qualities. Right I was; each dish was splendidly presented and prepared. There was thought put into the plates the food was showcased upon.
I loved the service, down to earth, professional and caring. This was up there with the best pub food experiences of my life.
Wellington Wednesday is a must!!
Super service and food
We always get a warm welcome at the Papermakers. Comfortable interior and friendly staff. Limited menu but caters for most tastes. Food is well presented, fresh and tasty.
Friendly staff and great food
Excellent food, atmosphere and lovely staff. Well worth the money. One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had!
Really good experience been there twice for lunch and staff very obliging even remembered what drinks we ordered the first time. All good hence 5 stars.
I took my dog with me and we were made to feel very special when we arrived with dog biscuits on the table and a water bowl by the table. A really lovely touch which is rare nowadays! The service and food was excellent as was the beer (Larkins). I would definitely return! My only issue was the level of noise in the pub - it's very loud and difficult to hear the people you are dining with! We were sitting in the bar so maybe the restaurant has better acoustics but this wouldn't put me off returning and having the Papermakers Arms as one of my top choice local pubs.
Every thing very good as usual. Risotto, Gravadlax, spicy Chicken, Thai prawn curry, scallops and affogato, excellent
The wine list has changed sadly and not for the better. No French Chardonnay or equivalent under £40! A basic mistake!
We had a meal with friends at the Papermakers Arms on Saturday. It was our second time there and even though it is an hour's journey for us it is well worth it. It has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Will look to my next meal there
Sunday lunch was great. Huge Yorkshire pudding. Very tasty. Friendly staff. Would recommend and will be returning
Fabulous food, great service and good value. We will be back again and again
An excellently venue indeed, the service was very friendly and prompt, all food was well prepared and fresh , despite being a sous chef down delays were minimal. Highly recommended, it’s a shame we live in Sussex as we would be frequent Customers.
Excellent service which was really attentive. All 6 of us had different starters and main courses. Everyone enjoyed and complimented how delicious the food was!!
Keep up the excellent work, I will definitely recommend!
Very enjoyable lunch food was very good, service excellent with a wonderfully friendly atmosphere
Everything was perfect, atmosphere food and service could not be improved
The welcome was lovely and service excellent , however my salmon was dry and over cooked and my husband’s steak was very chewy .portion sizes were on the small side, I don’t mind paying for quality but at £42.50 pp for a G&T , 1 starter,1 main course and a glass of wine I felt rather fleeced .
Lovely friendly place. Delicious food and great service.
Not up to the usual standard which hopefully is a one off. Sat us unnecessarily close to a loud table and the main courses were slightly over cooked. Also presenting olives with the starter was unusual.
Beautiful venue, friendly staff and amazing delicious food. Definitely will be back!
Never have a bad experience there. Welcome is always amazing. Best manager I've come across in a long time she always knows when I need a refill sometimes even before I do. Place is fab.
We eat here often and meet with friends we hadn’t seen for a long time we stayed till 4pm and they were ment to shut at 2-3am after lunch we lost Track of time they just left us too it fabulous
Lovely Sunday lunch great deserts will return great value all home made
Food was generally good - however apple crumble was not set and a big disappointment
We have been before and had a lovely lunch but this visit was hugely disappointing. Our starters consisted of only 4 or 3 pieces of squid which were lukewarm, the starter of pate was served with completely blackened burnt toast which the waitress commented on “I tried to hide that piece but didn’t have time before it was on the table”. All 3 of our sirloin steaks were fatty and very chewy and quite tasteless. We decided not to chance desserts! As we had travelled quite a way to eat here as a treat for a big birthday we left feeling embarrassed at recommending this restaurant. We only realised we were all disappointed when we left, no one wanted to mention the poor food so as not to upset the evening for the birthday man! We will not be rushing back.
Lovely mother’s day meal, although we were booked in for the last sitting of what was a very busy day for them we were made to feel very welcome. Everything we chose to eat was still available and of excellent quality as always. Nice touch box of Maltesers for mum!!
The Papermakers Arms is one of our favourite pubs. We love the ambience and layout of bar and restaurant area. It is beautifully decorated with fresh flower and the service is always impeccable and friendly. The food is always amazing and good value for money. We just love this pub.
It would have got 5* but the day's menu was not as interesting as usual (to me).
