A favorite of Julia Child - Pot au Feu Bistro is so much more than a restaurant... Established in 1972, our cozy Bistro is the oldest French Bistro in America. Pot au Feu Bistro kicked off the Providence Restaurant Renaissance being the first to offer something other than “steak, spaghetti and chow mien”.
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.

Ive been going to Pot Au Feu for 30+ years and its one of my favorites restaurants in Providence. The food and ambiance are outstanding and the staff is second to none. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice romantic dinner and quiet atmosphere.

This used to be our go-to spot for special dates when we lived in Providence 20+ years ago so we decided to celebrate our 37th anniversary there this year. Honestly, it was just as great as we remembered. It has that cozy Parisian bistro vibe, great service and outstanding food. The French onion soup and crème brûlée are mandatory orders they are easily the best around. Coming back here just reminded us exactly why we loved it so much years ago and we are already making plans to go back to share with family and friends.

Now that the chilly weather is here, what could be better than a basket of warm French bread with soft creamery butter, a steaming bowl of mushroom soup, and duck confit with crispy skin. The Pot never disappoints.

Last night in Providence felt especially nostalgic. In a historic area of the city, the nor’easter chased away most people, leaving the streets feel even more old world. The rain and wind added interest to the walk between parking and door. Pot Au Feu Bistro is low-key and unpretentious from the outside, polished, inviting and intimate on the inside. It’s a place where people can talk quietly together over a meal. Sitting at the table, it could be 1972, the year it began. Time feels different there. Life feels different there. Sitting in that atmosphere, it feels like you can talk about anything and without distractions. Every sip and bite tastes better, tastes perfect. Maybe it’s the wines or cocktails, or the French cooking, or the sense of permanence in a time when nothing else feels permanent. Maybe it’s the illusion of being far from the present. If a dining experience can change the way you experience time itself, that’s an impressive feat.

We started with a crock of the best French onion soup ever along with locally forged mushrooms for the mushroom pate.We enjoyed the signature dish The Pot au Feu and the tornadoes of beef, which I had a side of Bernaise, which was amazing. The 5G signature cocktail never disappoints. Which team is pleasant and professional it was a perfect evening
