This was our second time having afternoon tea here but sadly it wasn’t as we remembered it. 1) When our waitress went to pour water she noticed the glass was not clean. Unfortunately I also noticed that the teacup next to me was dirty too. She apologised immediately and changed these. 2) The food was good but not excellent (sandwiches felt like they could have been better). 3) Quite a few times when there was no one in the room to order tea etc from. 4) The whole place really needs a paint and refresh. That said for the price it was an okay experience.

An odd experience do a hotel with a good reputation and a supposed 4-star rating. Upon arrival we were pointed to our table, not escorted. The staff took a while to offer us a menu - were there for Afternoon Tea so we knew the basics anyway. After about 30 mins we were served our food, which was all fine, but this was the last we saw of the staff. No offer of a second cup of tea, not even an option to pay the bill. We had been shut in the room with the one other party of customers and forgotten. When you’re paying £35 each for what is essentially a sandwich and a couple of cakes, you’re expecting a quality experience. This was very lacking and we shall not return.

A most unpleasant and shoddy evening in this place. Very disappointed as I travelled over 60 miles to spend an evening with friends only to find they had only 3 items available on the menu and the quality of food was disgusting, overcooked, burnt and BURGER VAN STANDARDS. Very poor indeed. I asked for the manager, I got a very dim wit, no personality, receptionist who could make no decision. He insisted I pay the bill and complain to the management via email. Dont go there, not very nice experience. Would very much appreciate if someone from management could contact me to discuss my experience.

I used to go here frequently for years and for the last year it’s been horrendous. I had contacted the manager after a terrible afternoon tea and the worst service and serving meat when they had been advised of allergies prior then having to wait over an hour for them to make cucumber sandwiches various other issues the manager never called back it’s been months no apology and charges us full price and service after receiving mother from them. I have never experienced such diabolical and disrespectful unprofessional behaviour

Food wasn’t great…. Steak was so fatty and grisly…. The fish (fish and chips ) tasted of curry Service was really slow and far too long (apparently due to only having one chef)

Took a friend for a special birthday treat. We had a fabulous afternoon with excellent service and delicious tea. I’d absolutely be recommending this to anyone who wants a special treat

Such a lovely space and the staff were polite and happy to accommodate. However for afternoon tea, the quality of the food was below my expectations. The sandwiches were basic and did not feel fresh, the assorted cakes were not very tasty but the scones and jam were my favourite. It was a lovely hot summer day, that may have been the reason why we had some wasps buzzing around our table. At first we didn't mind but then it became unbearable so we left earlier than we would've. It's such a shame because it has so much potential for a great afternoon tea in a beautiful space.

We enjoyed our lunch and the atmosphere of the restaurant as we were able to sit on the terrace and appreciate the view. However the booking I made seemed unnecessary as no one confirmed our booking on arrival. The waitress was very lovely but did seem a bit under pressure so maybe the other waiter that appeared later should have been there the whole time as the place was quite busy.

Unfortunately this was a great let down very different to the website that showed properly laid tables with snowy table linen.. service was slow and an unlaid bare table was very unwelcoming there were only 3 other tables in the dining room that were occupied food was poor and i would say the food i had was a re-heated brought in meal the pizzas that our guests ordered looked like Dr OEtker ready frozen in all very disappointing for us and our guests and also expensive i would not recommend

The food and teas were great, what one would expect from afternoon tea. However, the restaurant had no ambience. There was no white tablecloth and afternoon tea feeling in the restaurant. We were sat on pub style tables and chairs. We were sat next to the only other booking in the restaurant which was a group of loud individuals that were having a business meeting and who I at first thought were management staff from the hotel. The music, although lovely, did not suit the music needed for a relaxing afternoon tea. There was only one waitress on duty who when we arrived, who greeted us in a way to say they were not expecting us despite pre-booking. The waitress was not around to help us with our requests and we had to wait some time for her to return to get the bill.
