Rumi's Kitchen - DC
Rumi's Kitchen is not just the best Persian restaurant, it's an excellent restaurant in every respect. Period.
First time for us at Rumi's, and we all really enjoyed it. Most of us are familiar with Iranian food so we knew a bit about what to order and our waitress was very helpful as well. We enjoyed all the meat dishes (chicken on bone and beef kobideh), it had so many flavor, as well as their duck dish with pomegranate which was incredible!
I think what I enjoyed the most was the bread and the side dishes they offer you in the beginning which was served with mint, other green and very light goat cheese and it was delicious. We also had the eggplant dish with the bread and that was also incredible.
Highly recommend this restaurant!
The food was so good!
We were a party of five celebrating a birthday. The accommodation was excellent, the food was exquisite and the service was impeccable. The owner showed up at the table and extended birthday wishes and treated the whole birthday party with an assortment of desserts and a lit candle! I certainly would visit the place every chance I get and recommend it to all my friends and family.
Gavin is the man! Always enjoy dining at Rumis!
Refined and unique yet incredibly delicious Persian food.
Celebrated my friend’s birthday here the other day. She is Persian and this is one of her fav restaurants. In fact, the waiter recognized her once she took off her mask.
We sat outdoors on the very nice patio and enjoyed a wonderful meal.
We ordered the Mirza Ghasemi (eggplant dish similar to Baba Ganoush) that came with what seemed like home made oven warmed bread. The restaurant starter that is served at each table is a salted soft cheese (similar to feta but more mild) which is eaten with walnuts, red radishes, mint and sweet basil leaves. Fantastic dish.
As a main course my date had the Koobideh kabob (seasoned ground beef skewers) and I had the lamb shank that came as a sort of stew. Both dishes came with rice.
And as a special request we asked for my fav tahdig (crispy Persian rice). We didn’t know if they would serve this as it seemed too fancy a restaurant. But when it came, it was very delicious, and presented in a very fancy way too :)
As dessert we had a childhood fav my friend chose; the sorbet with noodles and rose water, with little pieces of lemon and tart cherries.
Except for the dessert, which my friend said should have a consistency that is more like shaved ice, rather than a thick pasty Japanese mochi-like texture, was still very intruiging to me and delicious. Unfortunately we had to leave it mostly uneaten because the food portions were so generous. Bring an appetite, and bring home some leftovers to enjoy another day so you can try more things.
Our server was very attentive, but not overly. He was courteous and delightful and made the entire experience all the more pleasant.
During covid the tables are well-spaced out both inside and outside. When checking in with the host, we could see mannequins inside the restaurant taking up seats, a little surreal. There are temperature checks and everything seems very clean.
Outdoor patio seating is lovely, and is covered so do not be hesitant by potentially bad weather.
I love this restaurant. I look forward to returning -- hopefully with family and friends.
Service and food were great. Can’t say enough about the restaurant and how clean and organized things were. We had a great meal and my date is not easy to please. We’ll be back for dinner soon.
Generally high quality Persian food. Their appetizers are definitely the star of the show, although their main courses are also high quality. I have been here several times and have enjoyed most of their main courses.
Having said that, there are a couple of items on the menu that I would not recommend. For example, the lamb shank, although tender and well-cooked, lacks flavor and is rather bland. In addition, I would not order their Persian New Year special of Sabzi polo mahi. The fish was dry and the kookoo sabzi was so dense and dry it was inedible.
But otherwise, overall they have great Persian food and provide a good experience and ambience.
Lovely as always.
Great food and great service. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic. Everyone in our party was very satisfied.
This was not my first time at Rumi’s so I was excited to be back for the Persian new year to celebrate with my family. I had made a reservation for 7:30 and we were not seated until around 8:00 pm. I understood it was a very busy evening with a lot of reservations however it wasn’t so pleasant waiting for that long especially since I had reserved way in advance. The service was very good as it was beforehand. The music was super loud and I felt as if I was shouting to speak to my family across the table - I’d describe it as lounge music. I wish there was some appropriate Persian music especially since it was a special celebration. Unfortunately this time I wasn’t as impressed and amazed by the food. The first time coming here I legit felt as if the food was the best Persian food I had ever tried outside of Iran. I’m unsure if it was due to the super busy evening however the special which I ordered included a cold rice which needed to have been much warmer. The red snapper was quite delicious and I was quite impressed by the olive appetizer and the dessert. I have included photos for you convenience. I’d really like to go back here and I truly hope next time the ambiance is better as well as the found - i had an extremely great first impression of this place and I so I hope next time is just as good as the first time.
First time at Rumi’s Kitchen with my three best friends celebrating that we are all vaccinated!! It was Persian New Year so it was pumping! We didn’t have to wait too long for our table, enjoyed a nice bottle of wine as we waited. Once we were seated our server immediately came over to say hi and ask for a drink order. She was real sweet and genuinely cares about her guests. We got cocktails and ordered some appetizers. The grilled shrimp and Rumi’s wings alone are a reason enough to go back to Rumi’s over and over. We also had the Fattoush salad and the Hummus with Lamb Merguez Sausage, amazing!! We had the lamb, barg and grilled salmon kabobs and they were all delicious and cooked to perfection. Honestly, it’s evident that there is a lot of love on the plates that come out of Rumi’s kitchen. Pleased is an understatement- this is a must go.
Rumi's Kitchen does an excellent job creating authentic Persian dishes. The ambience and decor are very charming, with a modern twist on a beautiful rich culture!
The food was absolutely amazing and my server helped explain everything which made the process so easy and enjoyable!
Flavorful food, served artfully and paced well. Hot food was hot and cold was cold (sometimes hot food arrives cold but this was perfect.) Knowledgeable hostess and server. A top experience and worth the expense.
Amazing food, service and menu! A must try for anyone living/ visiting DC.
It is the best Persian food in dc with high quality and good service.
The staff was so kind and helpful and the food was incredible.
Authentic Persian food with exceptional service. Really enjoyed our dinner.
A long overdue needed exotic Persian restaurant. Highly recommended.
Great Persian food with a slight twist. Loved the food. Keep it up.
For my first time being there, I’ll def will be going back. Rafael was an awesome waiter and the food was amazing
Food was great, service was good. A tiny disappointed our waiter did not do something a little special for my friend's birthday, despite me mentioning it at the very beginning. The dinner unfortunately ended poorly when, after receiving the two glasses of port I ordered, we realized they poured the very last drop of the bottle and my friend ended up drinking a big sip of dregs. That was disgusting! Poor judgement from the employee who poured that glass, really! And a very sad way to end our dinner. Hope it'll be better when/if we visit again.
Service was outstanding and the food was amazing. My second time dining and the experience was just as exceptional.
I’ve been a big fan of this restaurant since it opened but not sure if I will return. It’s unfortunate they allowed someone carry their dog inside the restaurant and actually sit them at the table. It was very obvious it was not a service dog.
Excellent food and customer service. I highly recommend and will return!
Great food and very friendly staff. Everything we had was great. The portions are really big so you might have leftovers.
Awesome. Had lunch with an executive friend and his family. They were thoroughly impressed with the restaurant, authentic Persian food, friendly staff and the owner Ali stopped by a few times to ask how we doing and great convo. Rumi is on their game in DC like their Atlanta locations.
Our waiter was amazing! Food was great, ambiance was fantastic. Definitely going back often
Food was great and plentiful
Great service! It was my friends bday and Leo our server couldn’t have been nicer. I’ve been twice and other times phenomenal.
Wonderful as always.....from the beginning till the end!
The experience was amazing. It was a birthday lunch for one of my colleagues. The food and service was second to none.
beautiful decor, nice ambiance, food was delicious and our server was great. Will definitely be back.
Our third visit, Good food and service, authentic atmosphere, Love the staff! They locked the patio door near to us made more comfortable dining experience. Will be back soon .
Food, service, atmosphere and attention to safety were all excellent as they have been each time I have been. You continue to be my new favorite DC restaurant and the patio is great even when raining or cold as the heaters work great.
