Over dit restaurant

  • romantisch
  • Goed voor speciale gelegenheden
  • Juweeltje in de wijk
Sapori Italian Restaurant began with one simple idea, create a comfortable environment where families can come and enjoy authentic Italian food. Sapori by definition means “Flavors.” Sapori’s concept is to reintroduce simple, flavorful, authentic Italian foods. True Italian food isn’t supposed to be complicated and is often improperly prepared! The Italian culinary experience began at home with family and friends coming together at the table and enjoying natural foods and tradition.

At Sapori, we strive to offer our guests the same experience. You can go anywhere and get a dish of pasta smothered in sauce and cheese but once you experience Italian made better… you will never go back! At Sapori, Chef Salvatore has assembled a menu of fresh flavors with the best ingredients. His classic Italian recipes have been perfected at his own restaurant in Italy and are now being shared with you at Sapori.

We, however, decided to decide for ourselves after having read a positive review in The Detroit Free Press. Having lived in Italy, I have a high bar for what constitutes 'real Italian'. This restaurant fell short. We had to ask to be served water after having been seated for ten minutes or so. A short time later, the waiter brought my husband's beer first and my sparkling water close to 7 minutes after that. We had to ask for bread which our waiter told us was in the oven. When he brought it to us it was certainly not out of the oven - it was room temperature. I was assured my pasta would be al dente. It was mushy. I told the waiter as much when he asked how our meals were. He offered to have another plate made but I declined. He took away my food barely eaten. I ordered gnocchi to go and asked for it to be ready by the end of our meal. He told me 'no problem', yet, we had to wait a good 10 minutes to get it. It was not good. If you don't know Italian and are starving and in a bind, do not order any pasta if you're picky. Otherwise, pass; it's the equivalent of Olive Garden. I don't know anyone who works at or owns this restaurant. I'm writing this on my own volition based on my experience.

We came early, around 5:00pm, but weren't the first arrivals. A surprising number of folks dined early there. Menu selection was good. Our selections were prepared promptly and arrived at the table hot. Compared to other similar Italian offerings, they were above average, but not top of the line. There are one or two better Italian restaurants in the commuting area. Wine choices were very good. We did not try any spirits. Overall, when we are in the neighborhood again, we'll be back.

Our food was prepared and served promptly, and the kitchen staff even added a “Happy Anniversary” detail to our dessert plate. The food itself was wonderful - best caprese I’ve ever had, and the Nutella brownie was to die for.
