Highly recommend this restaurant! Friendly service and good food. They have a good wine and cocktail menu.
Service was great. Food much better than average but I for one prefer much less salt
Food was very good. Service somewhat slow- especially for 5:30 when almost no one was there. Prix fix menu only offered if everyone at the table gets it, though it’s not noted anywhere. The manager made an exception for us, though. Different menu that what we saw on-line. Otherwise, good
Food was good if uninspired. Place is too loud for my taste with techno beats not conducive to eating or conversation. Decor reminded me of 1990s LA.
Food is excellent. A new twist on Japanese food. Service is good, but slow at times, and not always consistent.
Ambiance is cool, and very different from your traditional Japanese restaurant.
Would definitely go back.
To my mind, this is the first time my husband and I have had this complaint: There was TOO MUCH FOOD! The tasting menu is extremely generous, and everything was delicious. The opening tomato and pepper dip was a bit spicy for my taste, but after that I was in heaven. Fresh fish, creative combinations, marvelous variety. I learned that soup is the final course in Japanese/Peruvian meals (before dessert), and we simply could not do more than take one sip of the excellent miso. The waiter had a sense of humor about the sound level (music was a little loud for quiet conversation, and a crying baby spoiled the end of our evening) and about the amount of food. We will be back to sample more wonderful creations at Sen Sakana.
Outstanding food and service. I hope this restaurant is around for a very long time. One of the top 3 restaurants I have ever been to. Highly recommend.
We are new to Nikkei, a mixture of Japanese and Peruvian influenced cuisine. Sen Sakana was a wonderful introduction to this style of food. It was a special occasion for us, however the vibe was casual and laid back and the music was sublime. So this restaurant also could be a fun place to come with a group of friends and enjoy as well something more special and intimate.
We decided to share our selections, and the menu has many options to accommodate sharing. In this way, we could order a larger variety of things to taste. We started with the shrimp crab gyoza. In a traditional Japanese restaurant one will often find this starter typically with just vegetable or pork. This version was similar in preparation but the seafood inside was a creative twist. The presentation was also interesting as it came out looking like a fancy pastry. In reality, it is just six gyoza cooked together in a pie shape and served upside down. Using the chop sticks, press into and separate the underlying gyoza. Try the delicate sauce for a scrumptious bite (or six) of heaven.
We followed that with a second ‘appetizer’, a signature sushi roll called “sexy Sakana Roll”. Beautifully presented with an light yogurt sauce underneath, the tuna was extraordinary and the caviar garnish was a perfect complement. There are also Robata grilled skewers, and many other sushi choices but we decided to share a seafood main of halibut, clams, mussels, octopus, and squid over a bed of home-made Raman noodles. The highlight was the broth, a buttery yet light elixir that we selfishly spooned up and drizzled over some of the other side dishes we chose to accompany: asparagus, cilantro infused rice (wow!), and exotic Japanese mushrooms. The Soto sake and the Enfield Chardonnay are excellent compliments to these dishes. Thank you!
We loved it!
Omakase sashimi selection was a bit pedestrian - was expecting a seasonal surprise of some sort or some flair, but everything was fresh. Quinoa crusted chic was good if a bit oversauced. All was good, tasty if not memorable. Although I did get a chance to try some of the more interesting grilled skewers.
Great food, atmosphere and service.
Great food! Lovely ambiance! Try the lomo Saltado! Can’t wait to come back
As usual Sen Sakana doesn’t let down. Great food, great service and Great value.
The food was amazing and the service was very attentive! The atmosphere in the restaurant was great. Wish we were in the city a little longer so we could go back and try more menu items!
Our experience at Sen Sakana was amazing! My husband and I were celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary and this was the perfect place! From the ambience, to the music, the staff and the food, we certainly had a blast. We were warmly greeted by the staff and the service was excellent. Our server Daniela made sure that we felt very special and she was very attentive. We had the Torched salmon ceviche, Sexy Sen Sakana sushi, sirloin "lomo saltado", root vegetable chips, and Spicy Tuna and Yuzu Scallop. For dessert, sweet potato waffles, banana ice cream and green tea ice cream. The food was so delicious! Everything was fresh, seasoned and cooked to perfection. We are definitely going back and we'll suggest this place to our family and friends.
Wow. Just... wow. Every dish we had was unique, and almost every one was cooked or put together perfectly. And just because I didn't care much for the pork belly skewer doesn't mean it wasn't a great dish. The "addictive" cucumbers were exactly that, the Japanese curry puff was fantastic, and the few pieces of sushi we had were simply of outstanding quality. The shishito peppers were great, though a few were incredibly hot; the kawa skewer was good but helped by the sauce on the side; and the drinks were great. Sake selection is limited and pricey though, sadly. Wine selection looked enormous, though. Overall, I cannot wait to go back.
Delightful meal. House made tofu, black chicken soup, impeccable sushi and a dedicated gf menu were highlights. Wish I had tried the Mochi and the teardrop desserts but the chocolate ice cream was good although I did not realize it was ice cream when I ordered it. Servers were lovely although a bit confused about who was having what.
Demasiado caro para lo que se ofrece
We were a large family getting together to celebrate our artist’s amazing public art installations. Sen Sakawa not only accommodated us for earlier seating, the food was amazingly delicious & creative, the service was attentive & the fun party atmosphere was perfect.
Great Happy Hour craft cocktails. Food and service is always very good.
The fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine guarantees a surprise on every plate. The wait staff was just attentive enough and the no tipping policy a pleasure. The only issue was the prix fixe menu was only available if everyone at the table ordered from it. It seemed a petty rule.
The best ceviche in town. The choice of rolls is excellent. Congrats!
We had sushi rolls and nigiri. The food was amazing. The server was even more amazing. Attentive but not obtrusive. Extremely knowledgeable on the menu. Talked us through ideas to make sure we had a great experience. Will definitely go back.
The addictive cucumber is amazing! Nice place for a business lunch. The spicy scallop roll is delicious too!
I love this place. It’s right by my office and I’ll go with colleagues and friends for a post work dinner. Also, close to the theaters without the madness of Times Sq restaurants. Food is very innovative. Drinks are a bit expensive. All inclusive “no tipping” policy is something I’d like to see more of in NYC.
Birthday lunch with my BFF. Divine as always and truly enjoyed!
Food was really good and decent value as well
great friendly service. Really interesting tasty spicy dishes. Great for vegetarians
They were very accommodating though we were running late and the kitchen needed to close. Also the food was pretty tasty.
We were there to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our business. The service was excellent and Maitre D gave us complementary champagne which is very thoughtful. Food was delish!!
Great service.... slightly overpriced, but good quality sushi.
A little bit slow service while it is not to busy. Very good food. Will be back for more.
Ottimo ristorante-Piatti particolari ma molto buoni. Ci ritornero’
Great Pisco Sours, wok-seared edamame, lomo saltado, miso salmon, and unusual desserts! Made for an excellent dinner, with charming service, on the way to a show.
Outstanding food and good service. Non tipping restaurant which offers great value as well. This is the real deal with regards to Peruvian fusion. Quality and presentation excellent. Dont miss it!
Amazing all around!
Amazing food and delightful different
Wonderful experience and food.
Disapointing, the taste and quality of the food was below expectation, it was better when we visited 1 year ago
