Excellent service from all the staff, excellent food at reasonable prices and a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend The Charles and we will definitely be coming back again soon.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely lunch overlooking the cheerfully decorated scarecrow streets of old Wethersfield. We were seated upstairs in a private alcove and enjoyed a cider and malbec libation. The shrimp and grits are a good size that we shared but could have been a bit hotter. The beet salad was delicious and a hefty portion. The onion soup wasn’t typical but delicious and again could have been warmer. Service was excellent and cheerful. Try them out and you won’t be disappointed. 😁

We made the reservation well in advance (weeks) of our attending. We've been to The Charles several times and have never been disappointed. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and were told they were fully booked and our table was not ready due to an event consuming the entire upstairs area. We wound up sitting in the corner of the bar area where we found it difficult to carry on a conversation. We had tickets to an event luckily; we had allowed plenty of time for a leisurely dinner otherwise we would have been pressed to make out event.

It was a wonderful experience overall, we greatly enjoyed the appetizers. We did also purchased the bourbon flight and I thought it was well worth the money, in my opinion. The entree portion of our experience was well above our expectation. For dessert, it wasn’t super appealing, however, we decided on the lemoncello drinks as our dessert, and that was phenomenal.

A little underwhelming and was expecting more- crab cakes were good, salad was just salad very little pears and nuts, risotto was too salty and salmon just ok- my husband liked his pork chops but they were nothing spectacular especially for the prices. The atmosphere was lovely though and the service was also ok but if you want bread you have to ask for it apparently - ?

We just moved to Wethersfield and The Charles is our new go to. We brought my parents here and they loved it as well! Amazing food, drinks, and service every time.

Unfortunately, our experience got off to a very slow start. It took quite some time just to get water, and the service remained extremely slow throughout our visit. I’m a patient person and understand that restaurants have busy days, but this was honestly some of the slowest service I’ve experienced. Getting someone’s attention when we needed something was also a challenge. For example, my husband ordered a steak, but no steak knife was provided. After waiting quite some time for someone to come by, he eventually had to get up and ask for one himself. These are small details, but they make a big difference in the overall dining experience. I do want to mention that our waitress was very nice, and I genuinely felt that she may have been overwhelmed or simply having a particularly demanding day. However, the lack of attentiveness throughout the meal was difficult to overlook. On a positive note, the food was absolutely amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered, which made the experience even more disappointing because the food truly deserves five stars. I really wish the service had matched the quality of the food. Overall, this restaurant has the potential to deliver a five-star experience, but the service needs significant improvement. I’d be willing to give it another chance in hopes that our next visit will be better. Great food deserves equally great service.
