So, what's the story behind the people at The Bay Restaurant? Well, there's Gavin Oakley, he's at the helm of the place. With quite a few years of experience in the restaurant game. He was trained in the art of cooking by his father Chris a Michelin starred chef and comes from the 'stables' of Albert and Michel Roux the Godfathers of Great British Cuisine. Gavin is passsionate about producing food with "flavour and oomph" using great raw ingredients, he's often to be found out and about at local markets or in the wilds of White Cliffs Country searching for the best produce kent has to offer. At Gavin's side are a young team of talented chefs. Andrew Butcher, a highly qualified chef takes the lead in the kitchen and works relentlessly in the pursuit of excellence. His 'wing man' is Chris Parker a young man whose travels and experiences around the globe bring a freshness and vitality into the mix. Their combined enthusiasm is evident in the fresh feel of the place and we hope you enjoy.

We dined here with our daughter who was visiting us for the weekend. My daughter and husband had the steak which they both enjoyed. I had the Chicken Escalope which had lemon bread crumbs. Service was just right. Restaurant is nicely decorated. It has an outdoor garden with a pizza oven. Worth a visit.

Lovely food but the restaurant and the toilets could benefit from some TLC- it is looking very tired, worn- out and scruffy.

Totally enjoyable dining experience. Mussel starter was marvellous and fillet steak just wonderful too. I would have ordered a large mussel as a main course if I had know how lovely it was. Thanks for a lovely meal.

Only found this gem a few months ago and have been 3 times already. Food is amazing, staff very helpful and friendly and a great atmosphere. 3 Courses for £20 on a Sunday what a bargain. The only thing I would say is the Sunday menu is a bit limited but otherwise a fantastic restaurant.

It sounded promising from the description on the blackboard (no menus). But when it came it didn't quite live up to the description and was quite expensive. However the atmosphere is very warm and congenial and the service was friendly and attentive, so it was a good experience overall.

My partner & I were out celebrating our anniversary. We chose this venue as we wanted some good quality food & drink with a soft and country feel in the background. We have also eaten here before with a group booking last summer, the food was truly outstanding then...sadly on our latest occasion the food wasn't so good :-(. I chose the scotch egg to start & the pork belly for my main, which I was very excited about. Scotch egg came & was delicious! My partner had the Camembert & that was equally as nice. Our mains followed but sadly weren't as lovely, my pork belly dish was SO dry. The belly itself, the mash & the beans.. A real shame. My partner had the burger as a main, which was 'okay' but the meat was also a bit dry. (We just wish we ordered the steak, they looked beautiful going to other diners!) I will always recommend the Cliff's as a hotel, restaurant & just for drinks because it's such a lovely place, the staff were so welcoming too!!

I went to The Cliff for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. Food was very good, I loved the ambience and service was nice and careful. There is no service charge which is a plus, we left a tip tough, as they really deserved it

We were pleasantly surprised at the small dining room at the The Cliffe and the staff were very friendly. Unfortunately our starter order was put through incorrectly and after quite a wait I had to send my order back as it was not as I had ordered. The mains, 2 roast beef, were fine although the potatoes were hard to break through (I'm sure they had been sitting since start of service and by now it was almost 2.45pm) and we were not offered any sauces, I had to try and catch a waitress to ask for some horse radish. The price of the food was very reasonable although we were at first charged for the incorrect order, and we will probably try once more before giving up on this restaurant.
