The Holy Roller is Merchant Hospitality’s latest venture, joining El Cortez Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar and Have Mercy Southern Table & Bar. All three restaurants are steps away from Whyte Avenue and the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market.

We went for New Year’s Eve, the quantity of food in the set menu was disappointing especially considering the price per person.

The food was incredible but a bit on the pricey side. Since it's an a la carte menu, two dishes need to be ordered per person to fill you up. Next time, I'll be getting two Cubano sandwiches because one is simply not enough!

3rd time there and first 2 visits were great and tonight was extremely disappointing. 15 minutes after being seated before we had a server come by to get our drink order. Food we received was not good. Will eventually come back again because prior two visits were good, but will need to be so much better or we will be done. Too many other good restaurants in Edmonton to accept below average

I liked the decor. Music was top 40 (pop) didn’t Seem to fit the venue. Salad was terribly boring with No taste. Shrimp/calamari dish was tasty.

Booked on Open Table for 3 people. Called 1 hour prior to reservation and asked if I could change it to 5 people, restaurant said no problem. When we arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty, they wanted to seat us at a half moon shaped booth, we requested to move to a table, once again, no problem. Food was very good, pizza is awesome, so were the appetizers. When our waitress brought the bill she hand wrote on it that she had added a 18% tip because we were a large group.....since when is 5 people a large group? I mentioned there was nothing on the menu stating 5 people is a large group, she said it would be on Open Table, so I booked another reservation using the app and showed her it does not state this. We paid, and on the way out I asked 2 other employees about their large party rules, both said it's for 8 people or more that there is a contract involved, and there should not be an automatic tip added on for parties of less than that. We left, as by that point our Uber was outside and I figured I would deal with it in the AM. the next day, I contacted Holy Roller and asked to speak to a manager, I was told one would return my call that day asap. No call came. The next day, I sent a message again, no call came. 3 days after I sent another message, no call from management came. I have also phoned to discuss with no response. It's now 6 days after the fact, they have had ample time to deal with the issue, and have simply refused to call to discuss. Watch what they bill you, and don't expect management to deal with situations that arise.

The cocktails and front bar were great. The decor and ambience were great and the bartender sensational. When we went to the back restaurant to have our dinner.l, the mood, service and value weren t great. We did shared plates and 4 out of 5 of them were pretty tasteless. Was way to loud to have a conversation. Which was too bad because it was date night and we had spent good money on a nice bottle of wine to enjoy. I would go back to frontbar for drinks but not to the restaurant.

I have been to Holy Roller several times now and not once have I been disappointed. The cocktails are unique, the service is fantastic and I love the ambiance. Highly recommend.

Had a great time. First time there, took my wife there for her birthday. Food was amazing, staff was excellent, great setting. Real value for the food too, not expensive but tasted expensive 😁 definitely going back.
