The service was extremely slow even though there were only a few tables occupied. Our starters arrived after 30 minutes but then there was a very long wait until the main course. As for the food the starters were very good, but both the main courses were bland and pretty tasteless. The waitress tried her best to cope and was pleasant enough, but there was no real presence running the restaurant who you would have expected to spot our long wait and hopefully challenge the kitchen to send out our food in a reasonable time. The ambiance was very much one of a cafe trying to be a restaurant and the overall layout would be helped with table clothes , cutlery laid and wine glasses already in place. There was a lack of atmosphere with no background music. The total bill came to £91 which did not represent value for money. The Italian Garden has to 'up its game' with regard to all aspects of the meal experience, especially considering all the fine dining competition in the town.
