The Moody Mare
Good as always just lacking in gravy this time and service not as spot on a usually is!
Lovely food, lovely restaurant! Good price too
Food was lovely but the strawberry nest was way too big (great for sharing). Quite noisy, but good atmosphere. Was really warm/hot environment. Overall very enjoyable evening if a little hot in the restaurant.
Last minute Sunday lunch. Roast beef was delicious , best I’ve had in ages, great roast potatoes and good selection of veg followed by amazing panacotta ! One of our favourites for Sunday late lunch.
This was our first time to the Moody Mare .
the food was excellent and the atmosphere great. The main part of the restaurant is not so "loud", in that the part we were originally offered a table, suffers from echo, especially when another group are quite loud. The staff offered us an alternative table, which was excellent.
Overall the staff were very attentive, although the service was a bit slow, this didn't matter to us on this occasion.
Overal, I have to say exceelent value, decent size portions and very tasty food.
We will be back - thank you for a lovely evening
A lovely old pub with excellent food. I would definitely recommend The Moody Mare to anyone who likes to eat out.
Brilliant atmosphere, friendly welcome, really helpful staff and fab food. Loved it!
Lovely venue, food was very enjoyable with LOTS of choice, but very large portions will certainly return and recommend. Entertainment was also excellent.
Awesome as always
Scallops were tiny and black pudding was over cooked. Main courses were mediocre. We cancelled our subsequent booking as we were disappointed with our meal.
The main course was okay - 8oz burger. However, the dessert - meringue nest - was not worth £5.95. The staff were friendly but not what I would call attentive. We were the only ones in the restaurant by the time we finished but I still had to go off to find someone for the bill and then go up to the till to pay. I left a tip but with hindsight wished I hadn’t as the service was not of a sufficient standard to warrant it.
Lovely surroundings and tentative service. Food was good too! Would recommend and will definitely be back.
seated right next to a family booking of 18 with babies and toddlers for a couples sunday lunch. They had no clean wine glasses so my husband had drank half his pint before I even had a sip. Belly pork was awful just lumps of undercooked fat. over booked, understaffed, I wont return and will make sure I share the experience with others to save them the pain.
And dogs are allowed...... yay !!!
We stopped for breakfast here on the way to Great Comp. Good friendly service and tasty food, thank you.
As a first time visitor with a last minute booking, we were made to feel very welcome. Food options good and prices average for this type of establishment. Lovely cheesy garlic bread to nibble on whilst you wait.
Family meet- we sat in the garden and enjoyed a lovely afternoon. As were in garden should have been told to help ourselves to knives, forks etc when ordering. We sat someway from building and food was cold by the time we had sourced them. Food was very good. We will visit again
We went at 7pm on a Tuesday night and it was relatively quiet in terms of people and noise. Food was great, very tasty. Service was quick. Our waitress was very polite and friendly. Would recommend.
Food was cold
Ladies toilets sanitary bins need changing
My husband asked what bitters were available ? The waitress had not idea what he was talking about. She said they only had lagers 😂😂. Starters were fine, two of us had chicken skewers very dry no flavour, friend had steak more fat than meat . After we had coffees a waitress came to are table instructed us to pass all glasses to her no please or thank u . Then when we got the bill there was a service charge , what’s that about . As we walk back to the car my friend told me the last time they visited the moody mare , they walked out as , they sat for an hour before a waitress came to there table no apology or anything
Staff needs to be trained properly,
Firstly on what drinks u sell
Secondly what ingredients are in the food
Thirdly basic manners would help .
We will not be returning
Third visit and was very disappointed with the food quality of all our meals. BBQ ribs and steak were of a low quality. Good size portions but didn’t enjoy on this occasion. May try again in future on of their varied specials nights. Beer, parking noise levels all good.
As usual great food and a friendly service. Although advised that service would be slow due to a function , service was acceptable for a lunch time.
As always, fabulous meal and service. Great atmosphere.
The Starters were excellent, unfortunately the Sirloin Steak's did have quite a bit of gristle which was unpleasant and you had also run out of the lemon meringue pie which two of us had ordered, but overall we had a very enjoyable evening and we would certainly visit again in the future.
Freindly and welcoming staff
reasonable for a Sunday pub lunch. atmosphere was good pleasant staff although I would have liked to have been a bit further away from the kitchen door. All in all not a bad experience.
Still love this place! We usually come in a Sunday but tried the Saturday menu and food was great! I even managed to order something that was online but not on the days menu! Staff are excellent
Had the beef Wellington at £25 I expected it to be tender very difficult to cut and very chewy - same as the steak my husband had - disappointing
Great service and fantastic food. We will be coming back quite a bit with friends and family.
We were in the area for an event and I'd pre booked online as it was my birthday and it looked nice .The waitress was very efficient and polite , the food was outstanding both starters and mains although the dessert was not to my taste it was still lovely !! The noise level crept up and was quite overwhelming for me as I suffer with anxiety but we were finished with dinner anyway so didn't have to put up with that for long , overall a fabulous experience and one I would recommend
Nice friendly pub/restaurant. Food was good & tasty, staff friendly & helpful.
Will pop in again.
I visited the Moody Mare on Sunday 30th June. Having never been to the Moody Mare before I booked a late slot in the hope that it would be quieter and in particular that their would be less young children.
However this was not the case as there was 3 young children, two babies and a young girl of about 3 years old. The young girl was very well behaved and the two young babies were far enough away from our table not to cause us any major concern when the decided to exercise their lungs!
However at around 5.0.clock two ladies arrived and were, after about 10 minutes, joined by a young mother and her baby (less than a year old) and unfortunately the young waitress sat the party on the next table to us (so close that I could have touched the baby, when the mother picked him up!)
What I don't under stand is, why was the party sat so close to us, when the restaurant was almost empty!
I should clarify that my wife and myself do not hate children, or even dislike them, indeed we have our own baby who is now 28 years old! But we are in our sixties (well 59 and 63) and as much as we have a live and let live attitude, all we wanted was a nice quiet meal and a few drinks. We will be returning to The Moody Mare, but I will be requesting a table that is quiet and away from the busyness that comes with families with children and young babies.
Sat outside as weather was very nice. Creative menu and very attentive service.
we found the food was nice and hot but thought the seating was a bit uncomfortble other wise it was fine
Lovely all way round - service quick friendly and attentive - food varied and yummy - entertainment excellent
Nice little pub, food good if a tad expensive, friendly sraff, overall recommended.
The food and service was very good however some aspects of the menu were incorrect. On the whole, the experience was very good and we would all go back and eat there again.
I me and my daughter took her daddy to the Moody Mare for Fathers day. He loves country pubs so I just found the Moody Mare through google search. I was extremely pleased when we turned up. The pub looked wonderful from the outside and we wasn’t disappointed when we got inside either, the place is lovely. The staff were lovely and friendly. The food was nice. We found some old wooden board games on the side which kept out 5 year old occupied for quite some time. There is a lovely garden area which we popped out to (the weather was bad) we definitely want to visit again on a sunnier day.
Lovely meal for my husbands birthday and they even put a candle in his dessert!
I live a 40 minute drive from this pub, but to be able to feel at home with my little dog 🐶 in tow means the world to me. Some people have to leave their dog while they go to work, so to have to leave them again to go out to dinner just doesn’t happen, well not in my house for sure. But at the Moody Mare we can have an evening out having a great meal a couple of drinks, friendly conversation and good old Kentish surroundings. It’s a wonderful place and the food it great.
