Our hidden gem, tucked away in Bath’s City Centre - it’s small, snug but oh so special.
You'll find The Salamander just off Queen Square in the heart of the Georgian city of Bath. The premises consist of a well-stocked bar on the ground floor, cosy corners to sit and eat, and plenty more seating upstairs.
The Salamander menu has long been known for its good mix of traditional pub classics including "Bath Ales “SPA" beer-battered Fish & Chips”, alongside more modern British cuisine, to suit all palettes.
The pub attracts an eclectic mix of customers, and our staff are as happy to talk about brewing as they are to have a topical debate.

Pub food. Heavy but very well done. The guys running the show—I think the server and the manager?—were delightful. This place has history!

The restaurant is quite noisy at times. I thought the ploughman’s had too much pickled/chutney items it would have been nicer to have, say, some coleslaw or sliced tomato instead of one of the pickles. Also, the bread was very ordinary, I expected something with a bit more texture or at least a choice of wholemeal/granary. The ham was very tasty but was like potted ham, not slices which you would normally have with a ploughman’s. excellent chips though!

I found the food terribly underwhelming and overpriced. A friend from abroad was visiting and we decided to take her for a traditional Sunday Roast and we regretted not having gone to any other of the lovely Bath pubs who serve delicious food for the same amount of money, if not less.

Bath Ales pub offering there full range of quality beers. The food is spot on. Not an extensive menu as it's only a small place, that said there's all of the gastro-pub favourites on offer, so there should be something for everyone. We particularly like the burgers which are made from quality ingredients and taste superb. So dirty burger and a pint of Gem, there's no where finer!

Wonderful food and service! A hidden gem we were glad to stumble upon. Sunday lunch was great - highly recommend.

We went to the Salamander for the Sunday roast. I ended up having the fish and chips but both dishes were amazing! The service was great. We had the best time. For the sweet tooth, try the chocolate brownie - delicious! We would definitely recommend this place.

Visited the Salamander for a lunch for my partner's father's 60th. The menu has a lot of choice with locally sourced and seasonal produce. I recommend the bubble and squeak scotch egg and the fish and chips. The fish and chips are not cheap (£13.95) but are worth it!
