Randy and Brian Pack of Pack Brothers Hospitality had been looking for a place to expand their operations since 2012 after their most recent expansion at their family restaurant, hotel and marina, Smithfield Station. They looked in many places from Charleston, SC to Jamestown, VA to Manteo, NC. All of the places viewed had a fault or two that kept the brothers from diving in. In the winter of 2018, Surry County, never before on the radar, approached the brothers about taking over The Surry Seafood Co. and they were all ears. Here was a property close enough to their home that offers hotel rooms, a marina, and a great seafood restaurant! On May 1, 2018 Pack Brothers Hospitality took over operations and after a bit of revamping opened its doors to the residents and visitors of Surry County.

This is a very casual place on the James River. We were a little concerned driving up, because it's tucked back from the main road and not impressive when you arrive, but, oh boy, the service was great, the food was great, my lemon drop martini was great, and the view was lovely. We wanted a casual vibe and good food plus a water view. The view is really more like "low country salt marsh". The tide was in, the view was so peaceful and lovely, and it was the icing on the cake. I encourage you to try Surry's.

Have been to Surry Seafood many times since it opened. Made a dinner reservation for 6:00PM - when arrived the wait was 45 - 60 minutes. There were more than 25 people waiting, some of which had 5:00 & 5:30 reservations. Front of house staff were still taking walk ins and adding those folks' names to a list being maintained. Basically, it was walk in as usual. We waited 55 minutes past our 6:00 reservation time. Food and service was not usual quality; hush puppy was not cooked through for example. I was disappointed & let down this time.

We really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely try it again. Unfortunately, they had people call out on Valentines Day which made the wait list a bit longer with reservations. The meal was great. While we were waiting, the host staff was helpful and once seated, we enjoyed the service.

We had reservations for 5:30 (along with several others). We weren’t seated until 7:00 p.m.! They were short staffed and didn’t clear the tables in a timely fashion to allow people to be seated. I was physically ill from waiting so long to eat. People without reservations were allowed to sit at the bar while people with reservations had to wait. It was very unorganized and ruined my Valentine’s dinner. The kitchen and wait staff did an incredible job of trying to keep it together.

The only issue was too long a wait for a table especially after having a confirmed reservation. It seemed that they either had way overbooked or were expecting people to eat in 10 minutes and dash out the door. Once seated all was good. The food was excellent. Onion rings were room temperature. Great seats were a nice view. Will definitely be back but we’ll be expecting a shorter wait time.

This was a hidden gem. We took the ferry from Jamestown. The ride across the river was part of the experience. The menu had a variety of uniquely prepared seafood entrees. The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable
