   Stella San Jac was o.k. but the ambiance was kindof weird (corporate/chainy) for Southern Fare. I loved the Old Fashioned cocktail. We got biscuits as a starter & wouldn't do that again (I kinda felt like a chump for ordering it. They were effing normal BISCUITS! 3 for $9.00 & something a gracious restaurant would offer like a complimentary bread basket for the table! 🙄). But the crab hushpuppies were delicious. I got the short rib & it was yummy, presented on a bed of mashed potato puree (not terrible, but sturdy mashed potatoes would have been more appetizing), my husband got the chicken on a bed of grits ... the chicken was perfectly cooked but the grits were uninspired & lacked salt😳. My son liked his pork chop but I thought it was dry and nuthin to write home about. His gf got a fried avocado salad & she was happy with it, it was huge & looked packed w/ veggies. An unfortunate thing about SSJ was where they sat us ... the dining room wasn't full, but we were seated right next to the door, kinda out in the boonies. The waiter was pretty inattentive & I chalked-it up to us being so far from everyone else. 😢 The waiter brought the bill without offering us a dessert menu, but he nicely surprised us by comping 2 cocktails for the birthday guy. Overall we had a fine time (but that was mostly due to the peeps I was with). I'm not super inclined to go back or even recommend it.

   Server had a trainee and was clearly distracted from giving the tables solid service. Dry biscuits, hush puppies were good. Dirty plates from app course left on table, no new silverware for entree course. Entrees were bland. Devoid of salt. Salt shaker on table was empty. Both entrees dry and over cooked. We came on a Tuesday. Only a few tables in the restaurant. We had looked forward to trying this place, the menu looked good online. Hope they can figure it out.

    I sat at the bar and everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. They were so friendly, that I didn’t have the heart to tell them that I didn’t like my meal. It’s starred as a favorite, but I wasn’t a fan. I’d come back for just drinks and the great service.

    We had a group of sales members arriving in Austin for a conference. The restaurant was very accommodating of our group. Good and drinks were good and there was a variety of good small plates to share too besides entrees .

    The food was good, but service was below par. It took the waiter a while to get around to ask if we wanted more drinks or to top off the water. Then one of the waitresses helping out very graciously boxed up our leftover apps, but when we were done with the entrees they just brought boxes out. Maybe it’s being a little snobbish, but they aren’t close to managing service the way another comparably priced restaurant does.

    Average service; fairly nice ambience, but a hotel restaurant (vs standalone); steak was served cold and red wine served in hot glass, but quality of food was decent for the price (compared to other venues in area); overall - average experience and would recommend customers look for better options if on vacation

    The place is good but the ambiance is boring. Food is not too good but the service was better. I like to see more energy when I go out for lunch or dinner though. The price for the value it's accurate. Great fact is that they let me introduce my own champagne bottle for a low corkage fee ! We had a good time at the end 😄

    This is a great place for brunch and in a great area. Let brunch and walked around downtown. The place has a laid back vibe and our Server was very attentive and nice! The brunch coffees are fun and great! Our table ordered: The deviled eggs, chicken and waffles, and shrimp and grits. All entrees were really good! Must visit place.

    We were surprised that the Texas red fish dish was only fish - no salad or sides, so over priced. The Lobster mac n cheese was tasty but the lobster was over cooked and chewy and seemed to be claw meat and very little, so again overpriced for mac n cheese. A bus/server lady kept staring at us. We were dining before a show at the Paramount amd my adult granddaughter was dressed up. The continued staring from the backwall made us uncomfortable Overall a disappointing experience.

    Nice place good service, hush puppies were excellent as was the steak Fritz’s. Short ribs were under seasoned, it seemed like a sauce or something was missing from the dish. Everything else was great.

    The most underwhelming salmon I’ve ever had in my life. I may never eat salmon again. The menu talks it up big but clearly not. Overpriced at $40. Small portion, dry. I’m thinking a 5 year must have charred this piece of salmon because if this was served by a real chef they should find another career

    Given that this restaurant requires a credit card when reserving through OpenTable, with a 48 hour cancellation period to not get charged $25/person, we had high expectations for the restaurant’s food and service. Unfortunately, we were let down on both fronts. Upon arriving on time for our reservation, my wife and I were seated at the worst table in the house, right up against the servers’ station with lots of activity by the servers within inches of me. We promptly asked our server to reseat us, and he refused. He cited some kind of odd storyline that all their tables are mapped out to reservations already, and they could not move us. As he’s saying this, we could look around and see at least 3 other tables for 2 available, which we pointed out to him. He would not budge. What was further frustrating about this odd position of the restaurant, was that over the next 40 minutes, we observed 3 parties of two get seated at tables for 4. So their rigidity with us, made no sense and was rude. Our server attempted to make up some of our inconvenience with a 20% discount. On the food front, my BLT salad and deviled eggs were good, but not great. My wife’s fried avocado salad was a huge disappointment. For a restaurant that touts it southern cooking style, it made no sense why the fried avocado was basically tasteless.
