Certainly the best restaurant in Tunbridge Wells. Great food, excellent service with an atmosphere that feels special without being stuffy.
A delightful Sunday Lunch! Interesting menu - good choices and interesting takes on traditional dishes. The beef was perfectly cooked, and the roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding were particularly tasty. Try the sorbets for dessert....
An excellent lunch time meal.
Welcome and service faultless and the food was very good.
Well worthy of future visits based on this experience.
Friendly welcome, excellent service and attention, and superb food, thank you!
Thackerays is a great restaurant in TunbridgeWells the food quality and service level are outstanding
Thackeray's is my favourite restaurant in Kent. I love the relaxed feel of this place. Consistently excellent food. The scallops were fantastic and beautifully presented. The John Dory was finely balanced with excellent flavours. Service was well-timed and friendly. I definitely would return more often as I'm always greeted with a warm welcome. Highly recommended!
Beautiful lunch for a birthday treat. Food was delicious, and service fantastic.
Very enjoyable visit - the best set lunch for a long while . Interesting menu , well presented and cooked . Staff helpful & knowledgeable . The Chilean wine was especially good - a Rousanne/Marsanne blend . Can you email me the name please?
Piped music too loud but they turned it down to an acceptable level
Delicious food and wine. I could have done with some more information about paired wines, and the reasons for selecting them to go with specific dishes. Otherwise, a very memorable lunch – thank you.
Travelled from Cambridgeshire and although parking was difficult , the restaurant was absolutely amazing. From the initial warm greeting to the amazing food and outstanding service the whole experience was second to none. If you haven’t been give Thackeray’s a try , you won’t be disappointed
Great experience, Amazing food, excellent service
Thank you all!
Good overall, but not exceptional. Food not as innovative as expected, and service rather casual. Background Music was rather loud and not too conducive. Not good value for money.
My wife and I enjoyed an excellent lunch here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had the set lunchtime menu and the quality of the food and service was very good, as were the various wines we selected.
The restaurant was very nice. Smart establishment with very friendly professional staff.
Our food was delicious.
Extremely enjoyable lunch.
We had a wonderful evening, with. My wife and teenage children each on the taster menu. It was excellent. Not too fussy and well cooked. The steak was the only disappointing, it could have been more tender. The sauce with it however was outstanding.
Service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was welcoming.
I've been to Thackarays many times over the years and this visit was a treat for my party who hadn't been before.
The service was friendly and prompt but not as professional as I've had before. I'm perfectly happy for a laid back service even in this level restaurant but the wine came before our glasses, male party was served first etc. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We assumed the waiter was new as he wasnt sure what to recommended for drinks and wasnt confident on his description of what he was serving that wanst a problem but he said hed been there for 10 months.
The food was well presented and cooked, we had the taster menu that I recommended. It was lovely. The only disappointment was the steak course was chewy.
When we finished we had liquers before our taxi but no coffees were offered nor the amazing chocolates that normally come with it.
Generally good and happy paying for this level of cuisine but feel this doesn't stand out over others as it used to.
Excellent service, excellent food and an all round lovely meal thank you
Wonderful without being pretentious. Only problem was parking. Would have been useful to know that it was worth going straight to a multistorey carpark.
The decor was pleasant. The food was tasty but we were misled by the menu. With regards to the ‘Sirloin Beef’, two finger-sized pieces of beef for £35.00 + 12,5% was not what we expected even with the extra garnish. The raspberry soufflé was OK though the white chocolate turned out brown. The waiter justification (‘its because of the hibiscus sauce’) was not very convincing. As for the Chocolate Mousse it turned out to be a hard chocolate dome filled with thick cream. Somewhat disappointing overall.
Very welcoming and friendly, their standards are very high without being pretentious. The food was excellent and the service very good. If I had to be critical, maybe on one occasion our waiter was friendly but perhaps too personal.
So close to an excellent meal, but let down by a bit of inconsistency in both food and service.
Still good overall, but a real shame - as the prices & therefore expectations are high!
Comedy highlight was getting a “Happy 4th anniversary” plate on our 10th Anniversary!
But I’m sure we’ll be back again for another roll of the dice...
a pleasant place to eat.Starters and mains were enjoyable but the sweets were poor and our complaints were not taken seriously because all but one of us had finished them( it only took 2 or 3 bites) This spoilt an otherwise enjoyable experience
Very disappointing. Tiny portions (two slithers - and I mean slithers - for the roast sirloin of beef) and not made up for by the quality - the food was fairly bland. Adjusted for the cost, this is probably the worst meal we have ever had.
First rate food, service and experience. The wine pairing really good and avoids the red or white argument we normally have
Excellent food and service .Faultless in every way. Will be back very soon
6-course tasting menu: Beautifully presented with each dish clearly explained by our waiter, Cat. Portions just about right, but final dessert was far too meagre...one forkful! That aside, all dishes were equally delicious. Service was professional, efficient and friendly. Tables well spaced, good atmosphere, relaxed. Expensive, as one would expect, but similar in price to other quality restaurants offering similar cuisine...one doesn't mind paying for quality. Highly recommended.
We always enjoy Thackeray's. The food and service is of a consistently high quality and the wine list well chosen. The weather was good so we were outside on the terrace (for the first time) which worked very well-relaxed and comfortable.
Perfect 2 course lunch with great wine pairing and great value
Our table was very small, the waitress who initially served us bordered on sarcastic/rude.
We ordered vegetables with our main course s that never arrived? No one noticed till we pointed it out at the end of our meal.
Wine waiter excellent ,champagne cocktail superb
Cheeses disappointing, one British cheese wouldn’t have gone a miss
Overall probably not worth the £121 odd we spent for supper for 2 no starters and 1 cheese course
Need to up their game a bit I feel.
Would definitely recommend this place. The staff were very friendly and accommodating when they discovered that we had a food allergy. Food was very good and the staff clearly knew what was in the menu and what worked well together. We had the tasting menu which allowed us try a range of their delights which I would highly recommend. Will visit again.
Food great as ever but in the hot weather need to have better air conditioning or an alternative.
For a michelin star restaurant it had no air conditioning was impossible to eat on the hottest day not all the windows were open for the money you are spending u expect to be a comfortable experience I had to keep going outside for air
They need to invest in a air conditioner unit
My favourite restaurant! Excellent food as always, very relaxed atmosphere. Very accommodating of dietary requirements (in our case gluten-free). Would definitely continue to come here and would recommend!
We have eaten at Thackeray before and the food has been very good but this time it was quite ordinary, not much better than pub food. We were quite disappointed this time and I hope they will improve the next time we are in Tunbridge Wells.
Took my 9 year old son, we were made to feel extremely welcome and were really well looked after. Food was amazing. Thanks Gary, Charlotte and everyone else
Food was exceptional. Minor criticism was the service as when we asked about the different prices for one course; two courses or three courses which weren’t shown in the menu, the waiter did not know and had to go away and ask someone else. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and we will definitely be returning.
