Took my 9 year old son, we were made to feel extremely welcome and were really well looked after. Food was amazing. Thanks Gary, Charlotte and everyone else
Food was exceptional. Minor criticism was the service as when we asked about the different prices for one course; two courses or three courses which weren’t shown in the menu, the waiter did not know and had to go away and ask someone else. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and we will definitely be returning.
Great evening and the staff are phenomenal!! Made us feel so welcome and ensured we had a fun night.
Lovely lunch. Food delicious, service impeccable and ordering from the set menu was definitely value for money.
Fabulous lunch in great restaurant court yard. The food is first rate and the wine pairing great value. Loved everything
This was to celebrate my daughter's 30th Birthday and the whole experience lived up to our expectations. We particularly liked the suggested pairing to accompany our meal.
We lunched outside on the beautiful terrace - perfect for a sunny day. As always at Thackerays, the food and service were excellent. The menu always has a few surprises - the Cauliflower 'Steak' with Duck Egg was a particular delight.
What a lovely restaurant. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was beautiful and delicious. Ambience was lovely and comfortable in a stunning and historical building. Highly recommend it.
We had the set lunch. Delicious food and excellent service as always.
Amazingly consistent high quality of food , wine and service
Excellent experience. Food was amazing. We have been to Thackerays on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed.
Lovely meal, grate value and quality food!
Will recommend to friends and definitely return soon!
Service excellent and lovely extra treats given which was unexpected.
Seated in new outside dining area - very nice but wooden slatted seats uncomfortable and need cushions. Service excellent but lunch menu, although very tasty, is very restricted. Drink prices (especially by the glass) are exorbitant and the 'paired wines' were very ordinary - and no alternative offered when commented upon. Don't like the idea of a 'discretionary' service charge (especially of 12 1/2% being automatically included on the bill - would prefer the option of tipping according to the whole experience.
I have been meaning to visit for a very long time and now wish I’d got there earlier!
Myself and my 3 friends had a beautiful belated birthday lunch. The staff were friendly, efficient and courteous and the food was just exquisite!! We went for the wine paring and it was lush 😍
Myself and my husband can’t wait to return to try the taster menu.
Definitely recommend great food, extremely good value
The beauty of Thackerays is you are always going to be surprised. By that I mean what may be a description that "you know what that will be" turns out to look totally different to what you expected, but it is unfailingly tasty with new and different flavours or combinations
The food was as excellent as ever despite the fact that we went on the hottest night of the year and the temperature in the kitchens must have been unbearable. Every course was perfect without a single complaint from anyone in our party.
We chose to match the food with wine choices and we really enjoyed trying wines that were new to us.
welcome was friendly, starters were good, brill was cooked nicely, lots of flavour on the plate. there was no wild garlic with my pork or if it was, I didn't taste it. my partners main course was suppose to have local asparagus but instead they were replaced by rather large chunks of leeks. The cheese platter was to say the least very disappointing. we were given no choice, why not? we were given some very strong whiskey cheddar, a small piece of Morbier that according to our waitress had the texture of Gouda( really?) and some rind, mostly, of a French cheese. the soufflé was overcooked, to much merengue and the sorbet was too strong and killed all other flavours. It was a very disappointing experience, not being helped by the music that was too loud and inappropriate at the dinner table.
Our whole experience was superb, from the initial greeting through to saying goodbye. The attention to detail is excellent, the staff professional, friendly and knowledgeable and the food delicious. A perfect meal in a lovely setting: the ingredients top quality, and everything we tried was delicious.thank you for such a memorable meal.
A charming place to spend my anniversary. Thank you for a lovely meal.
The quality of the cooking is fantastic, accompanied by a well thought out and varied wine selection.
Not been here for a while, booked while shopping in Tunbridge Wells.
Food and service was excellent, maybe better than when the restaurant held a Michelin Star.
A couple of drinks each, 3 courses and coffee and it's around the £200 mark so not cheap.
Great value set lunch, good selection on the menu. Attentive service in a lovely environment. Would recommend, we will be back for another lunch very soon.
Good choice of food on the menu and, importantly for me, there is also a vegetarian menu. It is also reasonably priced with a nice ambience.
Food was fabulous. Staff were fabulous
Only thing for us was food came too quick after each other! I small pause to between would have been much better
Saying that it was still great! And will come again.
Given the reviews i had read and the apparent fine dine image of the restaurant i did have high expectations. However i was not impressed. The complimentary breads and fine butters were impressive. The rest of the food was average at best. An excessive amount of tinned sweetcorn which over powered the ham hock and luke warm main courses lead to an underwhelming experience.
Had an amazing dining experience at Thackeray’s. The food was outstanding and the staff were very attentive. We look forward to dining there again soon.
Food was good but we were put in a room on our own and had come out to a restaurant for atmosphere and felt like we could if just been at home.
The food was rather heavy and we thought the service was rather unprofessional. Overall, disappointing for the price - and less good than our previous visit a few months ago.
The bread , amuse bouche , and petite fours were all good, but what came along between was a big disappointment. The amount of lobster in the starter was minuscule and had no flavour. As for the cannon of lamb , it was almost invisible and overwhelmed by its assorted accompaniments. One portion of lamb was inedible as it was just gristle. I was told that unfortunately the meat was cut from the ‘sinew end’ . No recompense was offered. A poor experience on our Wedding
paired wines are of mixed quality
perhaps better to select a bottle
Amazing independent restaurant with incredible ambience, food, service, and a fantastic wine list. We will definitely be back very soon!
Nice restaurant, great service, but not teh best ambience, maybe where we were sat
All round good but disappointed with the scallops whose subtle flavour was overshadowed by the spicy fermented cabbage.
My partner and I have been visiting Thackeray's for many years and very rarely have we been dissapointed.
Wednesday was not one of those exceptions and we got to sit in their beautiful garden, in equally beautiful sunshine with fantastic food all while receiving their trademark attentive (but not overbearing) service. Highly recommend Thackeray's - for us the best value fine dining experience we have found outside of London.
Fantastic food excellent service all round a great day.
The second visit with a smaller party this time, but felt it was equally memorable. Thank you all !
Absolutely Perfect! We were actually the only people dining in the restaurant on this particular evening, it really was perfect. The hostess was very attentive & friendly- also recommends the best wine!
We received complimentary dishes in-between the dishes we had ordered and we was in agreement that this was the best food we have ever had!
The kitchen made a happy anniversary sweet plate to mark our special occasion and really made the whole experience unique.
We cannot wait to go back!! Thank you so much!
Food was great but we felt rushed to finish our meal. For example we hadn't finished our starter and they had the main out ready to put on the table. Just couldn't relax or digest.
The experience was okay. One of our gin's had a twig or something in it (and no it was not intended) - straight gin on the rocks no flavours - and we asked for a new one. They took it away, plucked it out and returned with more gin in the glass. However, I don't really think that is how it should be. Food was okay - almost trying to be too clever in the menu so leaves flavours and quality lacking. Atmosphere was nice, but not as nice as it could be for the price. I would not return.
