The Ostrich dates back some 900 years – it’s supposedly the third oldest inn in England and is a rambling monster of a place. The modern interior does come as a bit of a surprise after viewing the wonky timbered facade, but then a huge amount of money has been spent bringing this former coaching inn up to date, so expect black slate floors, chunky, contemporary wooden furniture, brilliant jewel colors & stained glass, as well as huge, sagging, sand-blasted beams, standing timbers & open fires. Our Chef has developed a wide-ranging, extensive menu to reflect the demands of the area & varied clientele. His style is modern British, with a few classic dishes given a contemporary twist, such Slow Roast Belly with sage mash and roasted carrots and a honey and cider sauce, or stuffed Chicken Breast with brandy soaked prunes, risotto and roast pan juices. Puddings are well worth a look.

As we are a small venue, we tailor make every event to suit the needs of the customer, so you get exactly what you want. Chef, Daniel Hardy will put together a menu to your requirements and we can also arrange entertainment to suit your budget. I booked this as part of my niece's 18th birthday gift, and was hopeful it would be a great evening. The food and drinks are excellent, and the setting is wonderful, but they were very short staffed, and we were left for 45 minutes between courses in a stuffy room, with no communication. Such a shame, because I really wanted this to be good. I couldn't recommend it at present, but would be willing to give it another go if they get their staffing situation sorted.

We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the very tasty food. The menu choice was more limited as usual as it was Christmas.

We booked a table for 10 to eat at The Ostrich as 1 member of our group had been there before and enjoyed it. Unfortunately on the same night the majority of it was booked out to host a party and all hands were on deck for the party. If they had told us in advance that they had a big event on and it would be tricky to cater for us, we may have had a chance to consider our options. We had pre ordered our meals, and some of what we ordered didn't come out and we were not informed that it wasn't available until everyone else had their dinner in front of them, resulting in a quick unexpected change of order for one of us (while everyone else was eating). 3 of our starters were sent out cold (soup). We made a point of having the drinks bill kept separate from the meals as some couples were drinking and others were not. One of the drinks tab ended up on the food bill and it took nearly half an hour to rectify it. Perhaps on a quieter night it's better organised, but on this occasion it wasn't the best experience. The lady behind the counter was very apologetic, but there just seemed to be a lot of waiting around on our part and sub standard food delivered. Its a nice building and it has lots of history to it, so I wouldn't not recommend it... It would be better if they had let us know in advance that we would be sharing with a big party.

The Ostrich has just reopened after a refurbishment, great job! The staff are courteous & helpful and the food was great. We will definitely go back again!

Was surprised at how busy it was for a Monday evening. It was heaving. The food was well prepared and tasty. I love the olde worlds charm of the place and hope that when it is refurbished at the end of this month that this is not lost.

Absolutely fantastic, been before to check it out and just walked in, then booked for dinner when my mother came to visit. Lovely food, great service, huge portions! Lovely ambiance, nice old pub, could maybe do with a bit more variety of beers (lagers) but not complaining!

Arrived 15mins late, amiable staff, quite quick service but the place was almost empty. Pleasant enough, lacked character not helped by ongoing building work.

Lovely setting however we were disappointed with the lack of Ale available on arrival. Their vast ale choice is one of the reasons we booked and it went down hill from there. No fish on the menu at all, no lamb, only 1 portion of pork belly, no black pudding scotch egg. Options were extremely limited. The food we had was good but the wait was long as well. Over 30 minutes for some bread and oil! The staff were clearly embarrassed at the lack of menu items and their reasoning was that they had been busy. That's great to be busy, but not much good for making money if you don't have the items to sell! As a gesture the manager gave desserts on the house but I still feel we were let down as it was my partners birthday and it wasn't the experience we had hoped for. It is so disappointing to be told that almost half of the menu isn't available.
