The Poet at Matfield
Outstanding food and top service (very friendly and dealt with my special dietary requirement with no fuss at all). Can’t wait to go again.
This was a gift from my daughter, we thouroughly enjoyed our deliscious starters and the roast was lovely with the exception of it being a bit cold, which was odd as the plate was hot. Also a couple of crying children were a bit annoying.
This was a first for me, after a friend recommended The Poet for dinner. Two of us dined. The staff were friendly and helpful, although there was a little delay between receiving the bill and actually paying for it. Dinner was lovely. I had the duck. Cooked a little over then what i woud usually have but still the flavours were great. I then had the chocolate pot - amazing! Only criticisam i have is that the bowl had a chip in it, something i would not expect at an establishment providing an excellent quality of food. The beef amuse bouche was stunning, i could have had more as a meal!
Absolutely fabulous will be back! Food and wines were delicious
Excellent food and fantastic customer service throughout. Nice touches with little in-between course treats. And although of the the fillet steaks was not right, the issue was resolved quickly , with no fuss, and without even asking, so it did not detract from the occasion in any way. Well done! Highly recommended.
The food is outstanding. Beautiful presentation and obviously prepared with genuine passion and understanding. A true gem that deserves a Michelin star
From the confirmation call right down to getting our coats to leave the service was impeccable and we were made to feel very special. We ordered the special steak night deal and it was sublime! The wine was delicious and we even sneaked a pudding after even though we were full and it was spectacular. Our waitress was lovely and both male staff were pleasant and discrete. 10/10!
Absolutely outstanding food with service to match! Can't wait to go again!
been twice now will make this a regular trip well worth the 30 minute drive food is unbelievably good can highly recommend ,service is impeccable
Anyone who appreciates delicious food (often locally sourced) and friendly service will love The Poet. It has a refined yet relaxed atmosphere, and the quality of the food is outstanding. There is a creativity and a passion that comes through in the chef's cooking and the beautiful result on the plate... And then the taste is sublime - every time. Thank you - we feel so lucky to live nearby!
Every effort is made to make sure you have a special meal and experience.
The food is exciting without compromising on flavour and the service is outstanding.
Love, love, Love! The service, the food, the ambience! Best restaurant in Kent by far!!
Impeccable service and a fantastic meal, chic for recommend enough and I cannot wait to go back!
Sunday Roast menu is really quite reasonable. 23.95 for 2 courses or 26.95 for 3 courses (Dec2018)
The service was impeccable. And the food was top quality. I had the roast beef, my other half had the lamb. Both were presented perfectly with side orders of roast potatoes, greens, carrots, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage all included in the price. No need for an upsell.
The drinks prices are not too spiteful either.
On the whole. A great Sunday roast. Will definitely be revisiting!
We went for a Sunday lunch and were thoroughly impressed. The food was exceptional and we’ll certainly be back again. Highly recommend.
This was my 3rd visit the first was excellent due to the tasting menu, the second was very busy but the food and service excellent. The 3rd I took Two friends along with us but the food was slightly spoilt due to the duck being very difficult to cut, with the knife provided, but the attentiveness of the waiter and interaction made sure the evening ended successfully.
Thanks for a fabulous evening.
Cannot fault in any way. Nor being a particular foody, it is a huge compliment from me to say the food was exquisite. The venison melts in the mouth, will definitely be going again
Interesting creative menu with some staple items for those that need (fish & chips, burger). Lovely styling, cosy and not too large to become noisy or impersonal. Highly recommended and a very enjoyable place to eat / drink
Fab meal excellent service friendly staff highly recommend.
Both really enjoyed our food - it was special but not "challenging". We had a slight issue with one dish that was resolved immediately and became "not an issue" - thankyou. Friendly staff with personality.
We will be back. Soon.
Scores in every department. Great food, ambiance, service and value for money.
We found the gap between starter and main course was just a little too long. But when my guest found she did not like the Beaujolais, you changed it immediately which was excellent. We will come again
The best restaurant that I’ve been to in any of the surrounding villages. We had a three course meal and all dishes were excellent.
The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome and the restaurant itself is inviting and cosy.
It’s not cheap, but definitely top of the list for an occasional treat.
Excellent food here once again. We went with friends to celebrate their 50th birthdays and all had a wonderful evening. Highly recommend!
Food outstanding; quail starter was particularly good.
Only one criticism having arrived in plenty of time for our reservation we did feel very rushed and from the time it took to sit down and place our order we were already on our main course within 30 minutes. The food however and very friendly service did compensate. Will definitely go back.
Great food great service our favorite restaurant by far
Excellent lunch with superb food and a lovely atmosphere.
We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary at The Poet (named after Siegfried Sassoon who lived in Matfield). The restaurant and service is superb - Andrew and his team create the perfect balance providing cousine of the highest quality matched by a friendly and efficient service - All in all a great dining experience - We'll be back!
We ate lunch at The Poet as a 'pre-baby' treat and it was so wonderful. The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, we had a wonderful time. Definitely worth a trip. We'll be going back for Sunday lunch with the baby soon!!
Amazing food, service, drink, ambience , as usual
Excellent food and wine and friendly and efficient service. Made to feel very welcome. We shall be going again.
We had a fantastic first meal at the Poet on Saturday lunchtime, and it certainly wont be the last. My wife and I were celebrating our 38th wedding Anniversary, and the staff and Chef made this a special occasion indeed. The food was wonderful, especially my Wild Mushroom Veloute, and Confit duck, chosen from the set menu, which was superb value. Other highlights included the Hake and Lamb. All in all a special place and a real find!
The menu is based on seasonal food. We ate here in the summer and I can honestly say it was the best meal I have eaten. Ww returned for a birthday celebration in the winter and although the food was very good, it was not to the exceptional standard we previously had. The staff are all very professional and warm and friendly. The ambiance is great and the value good.
Excellent all round except we were booked in twice- both done within 3 minutes so must be your system. Received phone call while sitting a table asking why we are late!
We have eaten here on several occasions, it was our wedding anniversary this week and were very spoiled, the welcome, food, atmosphere were as ever faultless, why would anybody wish to dine in London when we have the Poet?
Loved the bbq fish app. Delish!!!
Great night. Food super, inspirational and simply very very tasty. Waiters very nice and fun without being intrusive. Met the head chef which was a really nice experience and was able to complement him on his dishes.
Very ususual quince suffle for desert- if you’re a foodie this is the place to go!
Beautiful food as always. Perfect for a special occasion.
This was my third visit and although it's quite a long taxi ride it's worth it. Love the gin range and there is a good range of wines. The food as usual was excellent and they were more than happy to advise one of my group to the the gluten free options - which were many. Staff very attentive. Would definitely return.
We enjoyed our early evening meal at the Poet but found it a bit expensive.
We did not have starter and only had one drink each. Came to just under a £100 for two. . This is a bit more ,than what we usually pay if we go out for a meal. The service was excellent , lovely atmosphere. Lovely place to eat for a special occasion.
