The Poet at Matfield
I don't want to sound over the top, but this was one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had - I can't recommend it highly enough. It's slightly more expensive than elsewhere, but once you are eating you can understand why as it really is thoroughly delicious. We will be back!
We celebrated my Wife's Aunts birthday on Saturday night with six of us. The food was outstanding, and the service was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend the Poet for excellent food and service
Our first visit to The Poet. Very impressed by all aspects. The mid-week set menu excellent and a formula that should be widely available. Efficient, unobtrusive service. We'll be back.
Another great evening at The Poet, our friends enjoyed it immensely too.
The ambience provided by Andy, Simon and the team is relaxed and friendly but with great attention to detail. Patrice creates outstanding dishes to a very high standard and the Menus are varied and interesting. You will not be disappointed.
What a wonderful find, couldn’t have asked for better food or service.
We have been there many times Sunday roasts are excellent ! Best we've had locally During the week is also top for us We have been with. Different friend /family and they loved it we always recommend it to many friends the staff are very friendly and attentive The food is excellent well presented You have to book well in advance to get a table at least 2 weeks on a Sunday Not so bad during the week at lunch time have not been in the evenings they cater for large gatherings(family parties /birthday ) Would certainly go again
We always have a lovely time at the Poet. Food is consistently good, it has a lovely atmosphere, and the staff are lovely.
Great service and friendly staff. Accommodating with our 2 year old. Set menu was great and good value, matching wines recommended with each dish which was great too.
The quality of the cuisine at The Poet has always been of a high standard each time we have been over the last couple of years. The standard of service is very good too. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
I had read good reviews and thought I’d give it a try. Fabulous food, friendly staff, cosy setting and no noise, wonderful ! The rhubarb and ginger gin was delicious as was the food. The highlight for me was the rhubarb soufflé, my friend did ask if the chef was Married, sadly he is, so we will just have to keep going back for the food.
Outstanding again. Never have I encountered a bad evening.
Just went for a light lunch with a friend. Everything was brilliant!!
Having been highly recommended to us by a friend, I took my husband to The Poet at Matfield for dinner for his birthday.
The Poet at Matfield exceeded all of our expectations. The decor and ambience were elegant but cosy, the food was *delicious* and the service was outstanding. It felt like a fine dining experience; from the complimentary amuse bouche to the miniature delices - it was wonderful.
Everybody we interacted with were friendly, helpful and beyond accommodating. I requested a 'Happy Birthday' plate for dessert when booking with Open Table and I was not disappointed.
My husband and I cannot wait to return and have already recommended to friends! :)
Second visit in two weeks. Family meal out for my husband's birthday. Excellent as before. We will be regular diners from now on. Cannot find fault with anything !
We had Sunday lunch as a family of 4 and every dish each of us had was superb. The staff were attentive and helpful. I can't wait to go back again.
Our first visit to The Poet. Lovely well-priced wine list and a nice gin selection. It was great to see an interesting veggie option for Sunday lunch (roast baby cauliflower). We hope to return soon.
The Poet offers a relaxing and attractive environment and ambience. The food was exceptionally good, as was the attentive, friendly, yet discreet service.
Great meal, delicious and very friendly and efficient service. Thank you.
The food was excellent - a very varied menu and the opportunity to just have a burger (which all sounded delicious) or a full three course meal from the a la carte. There is also a very nice set menu. As it was a celebration we had three courses....one of us from the a la carte and one from the set. All dishes were beautifully presented and delicious in taste. Not usually a pudding person, I was so tempted by the individual tarte tartin that is succumbed.....and I was not disappointed. My guest had the set menu....a veloute, quail and the rhubarb soufflé. I had the venison carpaccio, the hake and the tarte tartin. All were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and we were well looked after without being either overly fussed or forgotten. I have been here before and it has always been good, but I think the current chef and menu are the best to date. I will definitely go back soon.
We were absolutely blown away by the Poet. Really lovely vibe once you enter, very attentive service and the food! Honestly the best roast we’ve had. Pretty sure the chef would have heard our exclaims of delight. Will be back.
Outstanding food and service. We had the Sunday Roast menu, and each of us chose a different starter and main course. Every dish was perfect. The vegetarian option was "the best I have ever had" according to one member of our party. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely visit The Poet again.
Well presented delicious food in a welcoming and attentive restaurant.
Went to The Poet last night with my husband. We've been twice before and love this place but last night was absolutely sublime. The food from start to finish was incredible. I had the mackerel to start followed by hake and my husband had the veloute and hake. Amazing. Dessert was souffle for me and tart tatin for the hubby. I cannot fault one single thing. The food and service here is better than any London restaurant I've been to and we've been to lots of michelin-starred restaurants in our time. It really is a little gem!
Arrived at the Poet to enjoy my wife's 30th birthday and felt that the staff there went the extra mile to make sure our time there was extra special. Food was superb. A fantastic array of Gins to choose from. A top choice establishment.
Could not fault this restaurant at all. The food was incredible and great value for money, the service was amazing and had such a lovely ambience inside. I will 100% be returning and have already recommended to people! Thankyou so much
Professional, unobtrusive service, an excellent meal in a calm and peaceful setting.
All one could ask. Thank you
An interesting and ever developing menu. The food was, as always outstanding. The staff are friendly and attentive without being obtrusive.
On this occasion we went for the a la carte menu which has something for everyone.
Our visit to the Poet was excellent, as always, the staff are attentive but not intrusive - such a wonderful lunch time menu to choose from and the food was so delicious it won't be long before we return.
Consistently excellent . The best food with service to match.
This restaurant beats even the best restaurants in London . I have no doubt in recommending them and have to many who have been equally impressed.
Great lunch. Wonderful menu choices and cooked to perfection!
Amazing. The food is incredible, beautifully presented and tastes amazing too. It’s a lovely cosy venue. Staff are friendly, professional and attentive.
Went to this restaurant for birthday lunch . The food was absolutely fantastic beyond expectations. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and the service was brilliant without feeling rushed . I would definitely come here again just loved it !
We had the a la cartel menu for lunch on Valentines Day (booked last minute) and we had a superb meal. The fish dishes (Cod and hake) we’re both outstanding. Friendly and attentive service. We will definitely go back!
An amazing value for money experience (tasting menu and paired wines) set in a lovely pub surrounding with brilliant service.
Excellent food and ambiance , the service was great and we would definitely return
Always fanstasic quality food and service. Best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had.
I went here for the first time with my partner for lunch on a Saturday to see whether we liked it, prior to taking my son and daughter-in-law there next week. The food was excellent and the menu most interesting. It is a small but very comfortable dining room and the service was very helpful and interesting. The only problem is the very small car park, so we had to park in a side road. We are definitely going again.
We always enjoy going to The Poet as service is always attentive, but not overbearing and the food, without fail, delivers!
Lovely small olde worlde pub - friendly staff - very tasty food - the posset off the set menu was the best I've ever had! Will try the tasting menu next visit for sure.
Sunday lunch was excellent. My smoked haddock fishcake starter was tasty. Very good pork main - loads of vegetables!! Very good cauliflower cheese. Nice Rioja by glad and rounded off with very ample and good cheese board.
