The Western Club Restaurant
We had the market menu at lunch time and enjoyed our choice selection. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Our waiter was very professional.
Would absolutely recommend to friends. Everything about our lunch was perfect
There is no doubt in my mind that Western Club currently has talent in the kitchen, and should deservedly get 5 stars for the quality and deliciousness of the three courses my dining companion and I ordered. But the meal was slow to arrive. When we asked about the lateness of both our starters and main courses, ours dishes appeared immediately afterwards - odd that the main courses were barely lukewarm. It was evident there were issues with the front of house. Inattentive. Understaffed maybe. Several requests not fulfilled (or misunderstood).
A truly enjoyable dining experience, especially one that positions itself at the higher end of the market, requires both the culinary and service aspects of the offer to be as good as each other. Appetites are left unsatisfied otherwise.
Based upon previous yes. Less likely after experience on Saturday due mainly to poor service, lack of welcome and overall customer experience.
Extremely good and attentive service by the staff. Food was well prepared and presented. Nice to see people talking to each other not face first in a phone or tablet. Will most definitely be going back.
Great service. Fantastic food. Very impressed overall and will definitely return.
I’ve been to the Western Club with my wife many times before and have introduced many friends to it. But this visit was really disappointing and may well be our last, which is a shame.
Having booked for a celebration dinner, we were disappointed right away by a menu change that did not have the favourite dishes we were looking forward to. They informed us this was because it was under a new ownership and chef. Fair enough, that can happen, but to remove some of their classics is immediately a bad start - and I would have thought in this digital age that a new team would let customers know about their new menu (it’s called attention to detail) - we had booked online and they confirmed by email.
Accepting the situation, we ordered scallops with black pudding and rib-eye steak. The scallops were good (which they should be at £12 as a starter) but you needed a magnifying glass to see the (crumbled) black pudding. The rib-eye was dire, chewy, tough, just not good enough for a £26 item. Initially, because of past enjoyment, we tried to convince ourselves it was good, but it wasn’t and we gave up attempting to eat it.
Normally, I keep to good reviews on Tripadvisor - and please check out some of the great places I’ve been fortunate enough to visit - but what really annoyed me about this experience and compelled me to write this review is the way the matter was dealt with - which I think shows the new management team have a lot to learn. When asked by our waitress if we enjoyed our dinner, we explained our dissatisfaction courteously, stressing it was not her fault (she was just a young kid). She said she would report this back and then was sent back by the manager (who was wandering about) to apologise. Was the manager to busy to take a minute to come-over? Leaving the young waitress to deal with this was a cop-out for me and indication of the mind-set about the importance of customer satisfaction.
Unquestionably, this restaurant has an ambience second to none and
Beautiful surroundings and ambience. Food was excellent some dishes particularly the chicken were poor portion size the chicken dish was described as breast if chicken it was half a breast of chicken and at £18.00 was not value fir money in comparison to other dishes. If portions were more generous I would certainly recommend the venue. The scallops for starter cooked beautifully portion of 3 had they been average size scallops 3 could b a portion but they were tiny .
We had booked dinner expecting to have the al a carte menu, but it was being updated and not available which was disappointing. Had we known that in advance we would not have made the booking
Really good value, great food and service in a marvellous ambience. Definitely will come back.
My family and I recently went for lunch at the Western Club. We went because of online reviews I had read stating it’s excellence, and it did not disappoint!
It is a calm and relaxing environment with gentle background music. The staff were friendly and attentive.
The food was outstanding. A good varied menu. The presentation of the food was first class and the flavours and quality were superb. We thought it was very reasonably priced considering all these factors. We will definitely return and have already recommended The Western Club to friends.
Overall experience as expected and service at table excellent. Only adverse comment would be long delay in our food being brought to table after ordering. This was noticed by waiting staff, however and dealt with by them. Still a favourite place and we will return. Thank you.
This was our second visit and we will definitely be returning. The food, atmosphere and service all make for a thoroughly pleasant experience.
Restaurant was great but they had no record of my booking. I noticed on TripAdvisor that other people who had booked using open table also had this issue so there seems to be something wrong there. Luckily they had a spare table so the food was great.
Absolutely wonderful. Staff, ambience, food and service. Well done Western Club for maintaining fabulous standards.
Have been quite a few times here. The reason I keep coming back is the quiet atmosphere and excellent food. If you don't go on a deal it can be expensive but worth it
Had a lovely meal with friends on Saturday evening. Food , wine and service was all excellent will definitely return.
Had several visits there. Love the atmosphere. Very comfortable seats.
Staid atmosphere lends itself to business type dinners. Good staff. Menu ok.
Looked on TripAdvisor for best restaurants in Glasgow and this one caught my eye. The food was amazing. The staff were very professional and attentive. Loved the atmosphere and the restaurant was tastefully decorated. Would definitely go back here again and would definitely recommend this restaurant for any special occasions.
The market menu is great value with large portions on all selections. Fillet steak was cooked perfectly. Waiters are both professional and friendly. Lovey experience
We came across the Western Club when looking for a table for 4 people with one day notice.
The service was next to none, this might have been due to us dining at 5pm which was quiet.
The food was good and the wine list is extensive.
Overall the experience was positive and I would definitely consider dining here again.
Food was very good and the staff were very nice. I would come again
Great food, excellent and friendly staff.
First time to this restaurant came with high expectations which were exceeded.
Thank you for a lovely experience.
Excellent meal, the staff were very attentive and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. The venison was to die for! I have never had venison that good. Top marks.
Outstanding, fantastic food and great service
We ate off the a la carte menu for lunch and the food was first class .Beautifully cooked and presented.
No complaints, high class food with excellent service, we were there on the 1st Sunday opening, was very quiet but will probably get busier
One of the last places in the city that hasn't been overtaken by large groups, meaning you can have a chat without having to shout.
It's a beautiful dining room with attentive service and amazing food.
Will be back.
Very good quality food
Lovely meal staff very attentive quality of food very good a little overpriced but would definitely recommend.
This was our 3rd or 4th visit to The Western Club and it was good again. Saturday lunchtime and it was quite quiet but the service was great, the food good and the wine was lovely. If you are lucky with the market menu and it takes your fancy it is excellent value at £20 for 2 or £25 for 3 courses. I had mackerel, fish of the day (hake) and cheese so an easy choice for me and all 3 courses were lovely. The difference in price to the a la carte menu is marked with smoked salmon and the named hake dish coming in at around £30. A lovely meal though and it is a great experience and beautiful venue. Although formal looking the atmosphere is very relaxed and that's down to the excellent staff. We'll be back.
Great food, served by great staff, in beautiful surroundings. Would definitely recommend eating here. Quality food and service.
Wonderful restaurant! It’s been my choice for important occasions. The food is amazing and the staff is really nice. 5*
A foodies restaurant, very subdued atmosphere. Would recommend for a quiet meal, not a party
We find the Western Club to be an ideal venue if you want to enjoy a nice meal in beautiful surroundings where you can have a conversation in peace. The staff are very attentive without being overpowering. We have recommended it to friends and will continue to do so.
If you are lucky enough to get a window table you can also people watch in Royal Exchange Square which can be interesting too..
Once again the food was outstanding and never disappointed
Excellent 3-course lunch at the Western Club on a Saturday afternoon in February. The dining room itself is large and spacious, with nice views of Royal Ex Sq outside. The staff were attentive throughout, and (most importantly of all) the food was uniformly tasty and well-presented. The wine is just slightly on the pricey side, but the market menu offset that with very good value (no supplement cost for the fish of the day or cheese rather than dessert). Overall, a great experience, and I will be back!
