The Windmill Hollingbourne
First visit will be returning.
Atmosphere lovely, not too noisy. Food was delicious.
BBQ area looked comfortable. Good to see an outdoor bar, if you are dining outside it saves popping into the actual restaurant for a refill.
Nice play area for the little ones.
Great to see Pierepaulo, new Manager, from Pearsons Arms. Their loss is most definitely the Windmills gain.
Am definitely looking forward to returning with friends in the next few weeks.
Been here a few times now, and will be back for sure. The menu has something for everyone, the presentation and quality of the food is far higher than many dedicated restaurants never mind pubs, the building is charming and the staff welcoming, also a beautiful garden and BBQ.
A pretty village to explore too.
The Windmill is a very nice pub, they have a lovely garden to enjoy a drink before going into the very tastefully decorated pub. The food is very tasty and well presented, the staff friendly and efficient.
You cannot fault the food here. It really is fantastic. However part of the restaurant experience is the atmosphere and the service and this is where the restaurant lets itself down a bit. Service is slow- the restaurant was about 3 quarters full when we arrived. We waited far too long for drinks. We ate our food and it was delicious but no one asked if we wanted more drinks, checked that our food was ok, or brought over the extra sauces we had asked for. We asked for the bill after not being asked if we wanted dessert or coffee! It was like they just wanted to get rid of people and go home. Perhaps they aren’t bothered about customer service but it would definitely stop me going there again in a hurry!
Nice beer garden to the rear for the whole family, dogs welcomed.
Interesting menu and excellent food. Portion size was about right.
We have been to The Windmill on my girlfriend’s birthday for the last 3 years. The first two occasions, I could not fault it at all, hence why we come back each year. Previous two years it has been warm enough to sit in the garden, but this year we were inside. The whole service was very rushed. We ordered a couple of drinks to have prior to our meal, our order was taken and the food arrived extremely quickly (I understand that you cater for those on lunch break at work, but we were in no hurry). My girlfriend had the pork belly which was absolutely sublime. I had fish and chips which was disappointing. Very small, flat piece of fish and a lot more batter than fish. We were then rushed to choose a desert and had to ask for a break from our main.
Deserts were great, I had the creme brulee which was delicious.
At no point was a hospitality check completed for our meal, either during or after. I probably wouldn’t have said anything anyway as I’m not confident about complaining in those situations!
It’s a lovely pub restaurant and we will definitely return, but thought it only right that I fed back the disappointing aspects of Wednesday’s lunch.
Was very disappointed, the staff were pleasant but over worked the food was either under cooked (raw tempura carrots) or overcooked, service was abysmal. Starter's hadn't been cleared away as main course arrived so was taken back only to be returned luke warm sea bass was then over cooked. Waited 35 minutes for drinks to arrive. Removed service charge and cost of one dessert but would of rather a decent meal as it was a birthday occasion. Have never left a review before but feel so strongly about this. Lovely premises but certainly not as good as the last time I visited.
Awful food and service , sorry but not the right choice for Father’s Day
Had very slow service here didnt even get the last drink I ordered before dessert. Just left it in the end. Were seated directly in front of a singer and so couldn't hear other diners at the table.
We attended to enjoy a nice Sunday Roast at the Windmill, to arrive to be informed there was a 3 course set menu, and no other option.
We had received no prior notification that this would be in place, as when looking through the booking confirmation email the menu provided was a standard Sunday menu.
No notice was placed on the website or the email confirmation emails.
They had also removed the kid menu along with the offer of free meals for Kids under 7.
We were looking forward to a nice simple Sunday roast with a free meal for our 3 year old, as she never really eats much, and thought that was a nice touch, only to find the only option was a £40pp menu which had 4 dishes on each course, and the choice of soup for a vegetarian offer.
Had we been provided notice in advance we could have checked the menu and made an informed decision in advance, instead a nice Sunday afternoon was ruined.
we love our Thursday fish and chips - and normally a lovely dessert to follow
Disappointed there was no access to the garden or children’s play area due to an outside function, main reason we booked to keep the children entertained. Other than that it was good.
Ordered roast dinners ok didn’t have much veg 4 green beans 2 carrots and a smear of !I think sweet potatoe ? Needed a bit more gravy, for £17:50 expected a bit more veg was slightly overdone aswell , chocolate mousse was disappointing served in a small glass with not much thought , but scotch egg starter was nice , wallpaper was grubby and ripped and had oil stains on it , staff seemed unenthusiastic 😑 and slightly bothered if you had a problem asked wether white chocolate ice cream was white chocolate as it tasted just like vanilla took it away out of sight and bought it back slightly more melted and said yes it is ? Excepted more from the prices think they have a captured audience from Leeds castle and have let things slip
Very polite staff, helpful and courteous. Catered for my special diet request. Food extremely good
Always a great welcome from the staff and the food is always top notch.
Great food, the roast was amazing! Will definitely return there in the near future.
Great Service, great deals, especially like the Steak, Wellington and fish and chip offers.
Great food and lovely gastro pub !! Highly recommend
Food and wine excellent. Staff was awesome! Will definitely go back again.
Lovely food and attentive staff very nice experience. Will definitely recommend to friends
Meal was delicious and we were given a lovely spot in the corner with room for our small baby in his car seat as requested. Staff welcoming and friendly, lovely pub.
Awesome Sunday roast, not the cheapest but well worth it
Good food and excellent service x highly recommend
My favourite restaurant, it never disappoints! I'll be back soon*!
Amazing food and great service. Couldn’t fault it :)
So we've wanted to visit The Windmill for some time, after having driven past previously and said how nice it looked. We finally got there last Saturday evening for dinner. The pub isn't exactly what you'd expect when you enter, from the outside it looks very modern but inside it's so cosy and quaint with wooden floors and beams, it has so much character.
The staff were welcoming and very friendly and as we were early we decided to have a drink at the bar first. I had a cocktail and my husband a beer, the cocktail was made really well.
The pub was busy but not to the point of being overbearing, it had a nice buzzy atmosphere. We were super impressed with the menu, such lovely choices and again not overwhelmingly big.
I went for the Scallops with the charred corn for starters and my husband the mushrooms on Brioche Toast from their 'lighter bites' menu which he really enjoyed, mine was one of the best scallop starters I've ever eaten (and I've eaten them a lot) the portion size was generous and matched the price, the puree was beautiful and the whole thing was a delight to eat.
High expectations for the main and it didn't disappoint. I had the Pork Belly which is always my favourite and again, it was one of the best I've had, perfectly crisp top with the right amount of fat and the meat just pulled apart easily, the accompaniments were superb and well matched, the chorizo/potato stack was so delicious, I didn't want it to end!
My husband had the Rib-eye, a cut he doesn't usually have and it came beautifully presented with two generous pieces of steak, it was a little over for him (he asked for medium rare) but he said the flavour was still there and he really enjoyed it - we did also mention this to the waitress as i always think it's best to let them know.
Unfortunately we were simply too full for dessert, but they sounded just as lovely, so hopefully we'll get to try one next time we visit.
Overall, I can't recommend this pub/restaurant enough!
Excellent food, good service,we have recommended to all our friends.
Food was amazing, staff warm and friendly would definitely recommend !!!
I have been to The Windmill numerous times and usually the food is great.
This time although the rest of my party thoroughly enjoyed their meals I have to say my steak was tough.
I've never had this issue before at the Windmill so I'll put it down to a rogue piece of meat.
Been to the windmill a few times and enjoyed it. Went on Monday with my wife and children and had a bad experience. Ordered the sirloin steak for my wife and I and they were both very tough and chewy cuts of meat. My wife couldn’t eat hers and she was refunded which was great but it still meant for a bad experience. My steak was just about ok to chew and eat but below standard for what a £28 steak should really be. The sides were really nice, especially the onion rings and fat chips. The kids burgers were also quite tough and chewy and they struggled with them. The service was sketchy. Had to ask two different waitresses for ketchup that never came and for two more cokes that took 20 minutes the arrive. Left feeling very disappointed and put off returning again.
Not impressed. When I advised the manager we were unhappy with our meals his only comment was I do not like it when my customers are unhappy. Well my suggestion would be that it is in your pwer to remedy that! Our duck was inedible and staff seemed to have a problem with remembering to bring cutlery when serving the food (twice). Felt it was very much a case of style over substance. That said dessert was very nice.
Delightful food, staff really friendly and helpful and great overall service
Very good food, lovely place and great staff. would recommend.
Great ‘real’ chips. Fish finger sandwich delicious, served with crisps - loved that they weren’t boring ready salted, but could have done with some brown/granary bread as an option for the sandwich. The truffle that came with the coffee was so yummy. Overall excellent meal, will be back, lots of other tempting things on the menu.
This place is perfect for me and my family The food is superb never had a bad meal, had the beef wellington which is delish I normally do the lunch menu with friend which is very reasonable always a good selection and so fresh . Staff are attentive . Easy parking , great garden looking forward to a BBQ . In summer
Food is lovely 😊 not the cheapest place to eat out but the quality of the food is far superior to other local pubs 100% recommend
Great service with friendly staff, the only thing to eclipse the service was the wonderful food. Best beef wellington I have had
Lovely food, great service.
The only thing I didn’t like were the waitresses hovering. But overall, food was great.
