Barbs is Shoreditch's home of Bajan flavour and the UK's first dedicated Barbadian restaurant, on the ground floor of the iconic Queen of Hoxton on Curtain Road. Founded by Nicc Wright and inspired by his Grandma Alder's Bridgetown cooking, every dish runs on real family recipes and authentic green seasoning. Our hero is the Bajan fried chicken burger, marinated and crisp, with soused cucumber, crispy onions and cult Fancy Sauce. Alongside it: fresh fishcakes, curry rotis, wings, fries and macaroni pie, plus cocktails poured over Bajan rum. Under Head Chef Amanda Powell, everything is made from scratch.     We had the mac and cheese balls and the roti to start. The roti was my personal favourite. I’m not even sure what all the flavours were, but it was absolutely incredible. It was perfectly seasoned, and the scotch bonnet dip complemented it so well. If my stomach had been able to handle more, I would have happily ordered a second round! For the mains, we had the braised oxtail and the jerk chicken, and both were just as amazing. The meat was full of flavour, cooked beautifully, and everything was so well seasoned. We’ll definitely be coming back!

    Nice lunch with friends in the Crutched Friar. Friendly staff and reasonable beer in a traditional pub. We had the bacon & cheese burger which was well prepared but a little smaller than hoped, but probably reasonable for the city.

    Great ambience, great food! We had to wait for a bit to order food as the ovens were not ready around 12:40ish but once the order was placed, food arrived swiftly and it was delicious.
