Doju 〜 a combination of Head Chef/Owner Mika Chae’s hometown Jeollanam-do and Meju, a fermented, Korean soybean block. Meju is the first step for making a number of Korean dishes like doenjang (Korean miso), ganjang (soy sauce) and gochujang (chilli paste). Since Doju is Mika’s first restaurant, Meju is perfectly incorporated into the name and sets the scene for meaningful, passionate food.

Her dignified and somber character, reminds many people of their own mothers. Kim herself is essential to Hwaro. The preparations for all the meat and sauce available at Hwaro are handled by Kim alone. This includes supervision of the slicing of the Karubi (boneless short ribs), and preparation of the 23 different ingredients* needed for the hot pepper seasoning. Nearly all of the seasonings lined up on the tables are Kim's own creations.

    Yesterday I came to your restaurant, it was amazing. Everything was respectfully priced, the beef tasted amazing, the bulogi was especially great. The staff were also extremely nice, they will help you cook your food for you instead of you doing it yourself in normal Korean barbecue restaurants. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone with had never tried Korean Barbecue, and even if you have, I still recommend it due to the wonderful staff and food unlike other restaurants.

    Exceptional food, attentive service and warm hospitality from the chef and team. Our dietaries were well catered for. Wonderful flavours across the many dishes we sampled - each was well balanced and beautifully presented. Great wines and an excellent martini. A great dining experience. We will be back!

    food was amazing, servings are big table was too small for our group of four, which made relaxing during the meal difficult. Also they were very understaffed, hence we had to wait around 25-30 mins just to receive our drinks. staff were lovely though and were trying their best
